You don't do that when you're down a touchdown, not to mention on the other side of the 2 minute warning when the other team has all of their timeouts. Defense **** the bed and lost this one.

 

Bengals didn't have all their timeout. They lost a challenge.

Putting it at the one, would have took it below the 2 minute warning. Would have put more pressure on the Bengals.

 

We needed the TD.

 

If you want to fault the O, I would blame the first half turnovers. Greedy? Rodgers got greedy on the deep ball to DK

 

TD's aren't guaranteed. You take it when you can get it.

31 points should be enough to win an NFL game against an average team.

 

This loss isn't on Rodgers. he had 1 bad interception other than that he played well

 

He forced the ball to Metcalf in double coverage on both interceptions, but otherwise, he did the job. He also gave them a shot on the Hail Mary.

Regarding the OP, no. If you are down six points and you have the opportunity to score a touchdown, you score the touchdown. Freiermuth did the right thing on that play and he had a great night.

 

Have to agree with the second part here. There was too much time and too many timeouts left to go sliding and not taking the 6.

That being said, my gripe is with the horrendous D that was called on the ensuing/winning drive. They only needed to get in FG range but we were playing like they had to score a TD. I know it was probably zone, but with how wide open Higgins was, it almost felt like prevent.

 

The first throw to Chase was against zone. The throw to Higgins was man. He just beat Ramsey. Ramsey got torched in man coverage all night.

 

Loss is squarely on D once again.

 

They gained 60 yards on 3 passes the final drive. They gave Chase like 30 of it without a human being within 5 yards of him.

Muth did the right thing. Can't get cute and step out at the 1 and not take the lead. I get not having any faith in what the defense was doing tonight, but that isn't it. What do we do? Take 3 knees and then score on 4th? They probably just let us score on the next play and nothing different happens.

 

I was thinking the same thing when he scored. gave Bengals too much time.

 

Had an immediate bad feeling once Muth scored.

 

You can't be arrogant there thinking you are necessarily going to get the TD. That's all we'd have needed was for Muth to step out at the one and then end up not getting the TD. We needed to make sure we got the TD. Muth did the right thing.

 

Should have gone down, it was clear the Steelers coluld not stop the Bengals at all.

 

Going down does not guarantee a TD. Let's say at first and goal at the one, holding Steelers.... Now it's first and goal outside the 10. When you're down six, late in the game, you take the touchdown when it's there. This is 1000% the defenses loss

 

You cant step out on that play needing a TD, becauae even if you step out at the 1 yard line the only way you can run clock is if you get stuffed 3 times and go for it on 4th, which is pretty risky and even then they still had 2 timeouts and the 2 minute warning so you wouldnt have been able to burn hardly any clock.

 

That strategy wasn't going to work the Bengals had two timeouts and the two minute warning.

 

If a FG wins the game sure but not when you are down 6. A false start penalty and you are at the 6.

 

Muth absolutely did the right thing. When you need a touchdown, you take the touchdown.

 

Again they would have not had the two minute warning. If muth dropped at the one, it would have dropped below 2 minutes.

Well, that's a reason for freiermuth to drop at the one. Let the clock go below the two minute. And have 4 downs to try to get in.
