Seriously? I guess we are of a difference of an opinion too. I couldn’t find a single snap that made me say “that’s how you pass protect.”

My level of respect for Arthur Smith just increased significantly watching how well he prevented Jones from detonating the passing offense.

Agreed. I can't even think of what else would have been going on there to mess the field up like that.

He had some decent reps closer to the end. Trai Essex pointed those out specifically. Mind you, I did say rough around the edges.

I never stated that Broderick is now a top flight Offensive Tackle. Only that he will get a confidence boost from here on.

    *** Update ***

Josh Carney has a great write up of it here. As I mentioned, rough around the edges but more good than bad. For me, this was the best Broderick has ever looked. Given how he has looked over the past two seasons in addition the first three games of this one?! Major development there.

Since we just signed him, there'd be a pretty big dead cap hit. Somewhere between $6.3MM and $8.4MM. $6.3MM plus whatever fraction of the $2.1MM prorated SB that's on the books for this year. So if we traded him at the halfway point of the season (deadline is wk 9) it would be $6.3MM + $2.1MM x (weeks remaining = 9) / 18 (this might only be 17, not sure if they count the bye in proration) = $7.35MM.

Since we only have $6.45MM cap space remaining this year, I don't think we can trade PF without restructuring someone. We could always restructure Watt to free up cap space, but I don't think it's a good idea (we did a good job of not restructuring Watt on his last deal).

Since PF and JS are very similar players, it's not bad to have them both. Right now, there's very little issue if one of them gets hurt. You essentially just double the snap count for the other guy. Both of them have taken that higher workload in the past. Much worse if Washington goes down IMO since there isn't anyone on the roster (in the league?) who could slot in and do what he does.

And if we traded one, I'd much rather trade the guy who's just over 30 and keep the guy who's ~ 27.

    This.

I was (still am?) worried that Slay would miss Thursday's game.

I considered mentioning the plays where he handled the stunts, which were decent for him, and even better for Semualo. On those plays he was able to pick up and handle the rusher straight on in his face and not have to be on an island where the rusher could take an inside or outside route. He struggles the most when he’s in space.

My bright side for Jones is that he was a contributor to the success of our run blocking. That helps our pass protection indirectly by reducing 3rd and long situations.

Looking at where he struggles and where he has success, I wonder if he could have a better NFL career as a left guard.

You don't think this is a good pass protect rep handling Garrett's bull rush?

i still think of how dangerous our passing attack would be if we had Pickens (and he had his head screwed on a little better).

also utilizing a fullback to help pickup blitzes would make us better. I dont think we even have one on the roster anymore. Imagine a blocking fullback who could catch passes and can haul it as well…

Agreed. Rodgers has been very good, but they still don't have a quarterback for 2026. Darnold could have been that guy.

It isn't. The problem is the Steelers drafted it high on base and low on bonus. Means the team trading for him takes on the majority of his contract. That and his lack of production aren't going to have much of a return.

The good news is if they want to release him they won't have to deal with much in the way of dead money.

Your formula is close, but a little off. Since it would be a post-June 1st trade they could split the dead money, which would just keep this year's proration of $2.1M and shift the remaining $6.3M to 2026. The $2.1M is already accounted for this year, so you needn't factor into a dead money formula again.

In addition, they'd comp back the remaining base salary due post trade (~$5.35M), which they'd likely roll over to next season to offset all but $1M of the remaining dead money.

Perhaps that's where the grounds crew mistakenly stenciled the Steelers logo around midfield but Rooney saw it and they had to remove it just before kickoff.

I've wondered this as well. I seem to recall one or two scouting reports that kicked the idea around because of how he showed more as a run blocker than pass protector. I think he's got talent and a mauler's mentality, just not sure if he's going to be able to develop the skills necessary to play outside at this level. Maybe.

It's kinda like I said at the beginning of the year. If we do better than the national media thinks we will, or anyone thinks we will , this would happen. The national media anointed the Bills, and the Ravens before the season ever started, and now that the Steelers are winning, and the Bills, and Ravens are losing, no matter how we are doing it, they are picking at every little thing. Like they were the Eagles when they were still undefeated. It probably gets annoying as f**k.

The Steelers had no interest in offering Darnold that type of contract especially after paying Metcalf.

if the Steelers cannot get their field ready or keep it nice--it's time for artificial turf. That field looked like Clevland's what a disgrace. And the draft is coming here get with it Steelers
