Oh that is why he was a 6th round pick?

No one cares about that what round pick someone is. A player is not his pick status.

Yes, Howard is much better and didn’t fold in big games.

    Not anymore.

I cannot decide if he is the next Kerry Collins or the next Joe Flacco.

That said, James Franklin and his lack of usage of the Transfer Portal to nab more Receiving Talent is leaving Allar to look a bit worse than he already is.

I do believe he is worth the 1st Round Investment though he will need to be redshirted for certain.

Regarding the 2026 QB Class, the team keeps taking a look at John Mateer and Sam Leavitt. Add Dante Moore of Oregon to the list of names as well; Drew Allar likely not being left out either. It is clear to me that Pittsburgh is doing all the worthwhile research it can for the QBs. I'd be remiss if I didn't include Offensive Tackles either; Isaiah World, Spencer Fano, Caleb Lomu and Drew Shelton... to name a few.

As for where Pittsburgh scouted for Week 5 of the CFB, link is here.

This all said, I am with @S.T.D@S.T.D on the off chance the board doesn't break Pittsburgh's way that Cornerback will be next up. JPJ and presumably Jalen Ramsey; assuming he doesn't fall off. This is, more or less, what the Cornerback Room consist of. Brandon Echols is there too but he isn't a true Boundary Corner that the Steelers need.

I saw the USC QB, he needs a lot of work. The Illinois QB was very good. He looked like a man going to the NFL. His QB IQ, command of the offense, ball placement / accuracy , and arm were solid. He ran a bit too. First time watching him. There was a lot to like.

His name is LUKE ALTMYER. I now rate him among the top 8 draftable QB's, as there have been some hyped flops / disappointments this year.

There still may end up being a half dozen QBs taken in the 1st round next year, but many likely won’t be the same guys that the talking heads hyped as top picks heading into the season.

I like this guy. For someone in the media he is unusually good at the specifics and can breakdown the game well. For my money John Mateer is the best QB prospect.

    Enjoy draftnicks

This is what I was trying to say at the beginning of the year. Although that means that they will only be good for one year.
I've yet to see one Qb(the season is not over yet) that I would for sure trade away draft picks to move up , and get.

    I wouldn't be surprised. Pittsburgh's interest in Allar isn't a surprise.

That said, if Allar is to work, he would need a redshirt year for his rookie year anyhow. Allar is simply not ready for the NFL Speed of the game given the fact that he still isnt consistent enough overall currently. This all said, will Aaron Rodgers be back to give it one final go?! Way too early too tell there.

My money is still on Sam Leavitt from Arizona State. Granted, he would also need a Redshirt Season but he is far more clutch and far more mobile than Allar is.

I place a very high value on being clutch when I am looking for a QB. I also shy away from QBs who crumble in high stress situations. I think Allar showed a little bit towards the end of last season, but I think he’s still closer to the crumble end of the spectrum than the clutch end.

    Agreed.

I personally have given up on him as far as that aspect is concerned. Sam Leavitt though has that and then some. Remember that Hines Ward is the current WR Coach there as well.

I'd imagine Pittsburgh has gotten some good insight on him.

He's a much different prospect than people thought he'd be. He's a lot less mobile than one would think. He has a cannon and is relatively safe with the ball. If he develops in reading a defense he could be a killer pocket passer in the NFL. Though, that's speculation, because he looks like he could be completely lost at the NFL level if he doesn't learn to read a defense.

Lots of stock has dropped in the draft from the QB class. Manning, Klubnik, Nussmeier, Allar. All prospects that were positioned top 5-6 guys have all been surpassed by Mendoza, Mateer, Sellers, and Leavitt. Dante Moore even as well. Simpson and Beck hanging around as well. It seems like a deep-ish class with solid enough prospects, but no one is standing out as the top guy. I personally prefer Mateer I think, but idk. It would've been nice to see Mendoza go against a really good OSU defense, but that can't happen until the playoff.

Ohio State's QB Sayin has been super accurate. How accurate? He's completing 80.2 % of his passes. Remember he was the #1 recruit in the nation the year after Manning. I have seen him play 3x. I would compare him With Drew Brees. The kid is a natural QB.

It is awfully early to talk about a draft for a sophomore QB who has started only 5 games, but if he is on the board for us in round one, and works out well ... Khan better reach down to show the world he has a pair and grab him.

He is not coming out in 2026, but if he does...

As an OSU fan he certainly looks good. His average depth of target has been pretty low in some games (like 5-6 yards downfield in his first start and in the Washington game, his first real road game), but he's opened it up a bit against some of the weaker opponents (11 yard ADOT last week). I'm sure this has been a gameplan in order to protect him, but it seems like OSU is really trying to develop him correctly. Unfortunately Illinois and @Michigan are the only real big tests he will face before the playoff (outside of a slightly disappointing Texas team in the opener), but next year sees a road Texas game, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Oregon.

Being only a true sophomore, he is ineligible to come out for the 2026 draft, but if he puts together a good rest of the season and a decent playoff run I don't see why he wouldn't be towards the top of the rankings for prospects in the 2027 draft.

Next Saturday will be very telling. USC against Notre Dame. Jayden Maiava has been playing lights out. Given that it is so close to home, I cannot imagine Pittsburgh ignoring such a game.
