Kenny Pickett

With LJ and Burrow out.... Mayfield may end up being a top 5 NFL QB in 2025, if he's not already. Gotta sting Browns fans.

 

Winner. How could He not be. We have people on here that can't get over Kenny Freaking Pickett who did nothing, and is still doing nothing.
So I can imagine a team that got rid of the last Qb to win them a playoff game, and who is now looking pretty good , still discussing him.

 

When it comes to Kenny Pickett, I know there is speculation on both sides of the coin about what derailed his career, but I can’t get past the fact that he is on team 4 in as many years. Maybe he just isn’t that good.

I see the point about Darnold, but he is the exception and not the rule. Darnold’s one good year came with one of the leagues best receiving duos.

Mayfield had a train wreck of a year in 2022, but has otherwise shown flashes throughout his career. I’m not sure that this one is a fair comparison to Pickett.

There is a point about Pickett’s injury history, but there are also many teams who would hold onto potential talent, letting them work through their injury concerns.

 

Still think Canada played a part in sabotaging the success of the KP selection.

You need a good coaching staff to maximize the potential of these draftees. Cant put it all on the players.

 

- In 24 starts for the Steelers, Pickett threw 13 TD’s
- Rodgers has 8 TDs in 4 games with the Steelers
- Wilson had 16 TDs in 11 games started with the Steelers
- Fields had 5 TDS in 6 games started with the Steelers
- Tribusky had 8 TDs in 7 games started with the Steelers

One is not like the others…..Pickett only averaged about .5 TD per game.

 

Maybe, but he also wasn't a top-five pick like Mayfield and Darnold.

 

Said another way, our rag tag group of QBs listed above, excluding Pickett, started a total of 28 games and threw for 37 TDs.

 

The steelers had also 2 30 points game with Rudolph.Overall if we include the playoffs game in Buffalo,Rudolph had 5 TD in 4 starts...Not great but it was one less that Kenny in 8 less starts

And I don't think that Rudolph is a good QB

 

Weird fact- Since drafting Ben, the number of wins by Steelers' quarterbacks after leaving the Steelers is exactly 2, one by Mason Rudolph last year in Tennessee and the other by Kenny Pickett in Philly. No other former Steelers' quarterback has won a game for another team in 23 years.

Don't look now but Darnold and Daniel Jones lead the entire NFL in QB efficiency. The topsy turvy world of the NFL.

 

The Raiders should give Pickett a chance to start. He can't do any worse than that old, washed up scrub Geno Smith.

 

You could easily chalk up his lack of success to Matt Canada, and I would argue til I am blue in the face that MC absolutely had something to do with it.......but, can you also add the Eagles, Browns and now the Raiders to that list too? Just incompetent coaching? I don't think you can realistically draw that conclusion. KFP is definitely lacking something. I don't know if it is skill, attitude, drive, attitude, big hands, attitude or something else, but something is making every team see him as expendable.

 

Josh Dobbs won a few games with the Vikings a couple of years ago. I think he won a game or 2 with the Cardinals too.

 

I would too - if for no other reason than it might put this all to rest!

 

Here is the real reason, and NFL fans don't like to hear it. They are paying G. Smith about 85 million for two years, and they are paying K. Pickett about 2 million. NFL teams will go with the most paid, and most draft capital guys for way longer than anyone else. They hate to spend that for nothing.

 

Did the Raiders trade Pickett already? Why would you add the Raiders to the list when they traded for him and fans were now chanting for Pickett last Sunday?

a competent organization? How many QB’s have they churned through in 20 years?

Philly clinched the division with him last year. They already have a franchise QB.

and then you have the Steelers. We didn’t just hand the job to Pickett. We had sitting behind an all time great… Mitchell Trubisky. Since folks want to do the team jumping bash game.. Kenny sat behind a QB who hopped from 3 teams in 12 months (see how common this) But let’s not stop there, Mitch threw a total of 8 passes in 6 games for 43 yards and an INT and still “won” the starting job.

understand how you all can’t see that the Raiders wanted Kenny as their #2 after they lost their backup and its seen as a knock on Kenny. Newsflash folks, QB’s want to play and getting traded from Cleveland of all places is a positive thing for Kenny.

The more we discuss this the more people see how many QB’s move from team to team looking for opportunities to play and its not a negative. When you are a back up, you always want to position yourself for a chance to play.

Fields 4-2
Trubisky 2-5

We are 15-13 with these other 4 QB’s. We were 14-10 with Kenny.

You would think with all these extra TD’s we would have a much better record without Kenny. Seems like folks love fantasy stats more than wins.

I do believe we will stack more wins with Rodgers but isn’t it a bit ironic that the only way we can feel good about the QB position is if we get a QB older than Ben who is already headed to the hall?

It concerns me that the next QB will need to be the 3rd coming in order for the Steelers to have success. I’m not talking Super Bowl either, I just want a playoff win.

 

He is on the Raiders as a backup which is why I added them to the list. When he becomes the starter and does at least 'ok', they can come off of my mental list of busts. He should be ok as a backup and it seems as if his choices and play may have consigned him to the backup bin who bounces all over the place.

I was on the Pickett bandwagon here for a long time and I still think he got a raw deal with the Trubisky competition and Matt Canada's offence followed by Wilson/Fields. However, Kenny showed a level of immaturity to me that went beyond just being a desire to play. That turned me against him. Obviously none of us know what happened behind the scenes for the trade to the Eagles, but the rumors were not kind and that is what we have to go off of.

Since he has been on the other teams, he has had opportunities to show them what he has in skill and leadership.....and they are letting him move on. Damned with faint praise. It is not a good look for him. The Eagles had him for a year and let him go. The Browns put him at the bottom of the heap behind a worn out Flacco and 2 rookies and let him go. Now he is on the Raiders who were in crisis mode due to injuries.

 

How many interceptions did they throw?

Rodgers, Wilson, and Fields weren't saddled with Canada and an incompetent center constantly getting shoved back into the quarterback's lap, either.

He didn't have to deal with Canada, and the second of those two games was won on the ground. Harris had 122 yards and two scores, and Warren added 75 more and another score.

Go back and watch that game against the Bengals. They never covered Pickens all night. Rudolph missed at least three wide-open deep balls in that game.

 

Pickett did ok got a super bowl ring out of the deal.

 

It was still the awful Matt Canada offense that the steelers were running with a few change but a team can't change a full playbook during the season.Rudolph is of course not a good QB but he is still better that Kenny.It was a struggle for him to have 150 passing yards in a game

 

The offense showed immediate progress as soon as Canada was gone.

 

The steelers had only 19 points in the first 6 quarter with Kenny before he was out
