It is really baffling the way they are using the TEs, I love Darnell, but why even trade for Jonnu Smith if you're not going to use him?? I don't know what Smith is thinking.

For the first 3 weeks, the percentage (%) of snaps:
    Smith -66, 57, 83. This week only 25%
    Pat -50, 50, 70. This week only 28%
    Darnell -46, 37, 37. This week 91%.
    Spencer A. - 2, 7, 7. This week 36%

This week, I think they prioritized blocking to the detriment of the receiving TE's. So ultimately, it is a function of the o-line performance and the blocking capabilities of the receiving TE.

Steelers are probably going to trade Muth + Pick for a WR.

    You heard it here first.

The problem with trading him is his contract- he already has the 9th-highes APY at the position - his deal is heavy on base salary, averaging around $7.5M per year, with only $2.1M per in prorated bonus (plus an annual $1.5M roster bonus if still on the team each March) .

What that means is the team trading for him would take on the bulk of the contract's value (base + future roster bonuses). It's possible somebody would do that, but it likely would lessen the return for the Steelers.

The upside to that type of structure is that it allows the team to release the player without a significant hit in dead money. For example, releasing Pat before March 15, 2026 would result in $6.2M in dead money for the Steelers, which could be mitigated into $2.1M/$4.2M in 2026/27 if they designated him a post-June 1st cut.

Name me a Steeler more overrated than PF.

Possibly Peyton Wilson. Never seen anyone get so much love for so little. Now he was signifcantly better on Sunday, but prior to that he’s put a whole lot of bad angles on tape

Washington gets more snaps and the run game is impressive. Things that make you go hmm?

Not disagreeing with his development path, not sure I get the overrated part. Maybe I'm not hearing the overhype. I agree with what I do hear though - he's got the speed and instincts, but has trouble shedding blocks and takes bad angles trying to compensate.

Agreed, I think Wilson has potential but not more overrated than PF. PF was extended recently to a decent contract. He is mid at best and excels at nothing. I think the deep ball he dropped against the Seahags put him in A-Rods dog house.

Could be. Freiermuth's contract is where he's overrated, IMO. Last year his cap number was $12.9M, while OTC's valuation of him was $7.5M. Not saying that number is the end-all, be-all, but for me Pat entered with a bang as a guy who would play a big part in the passing game, but hasn't progressed much as a player or in terms of usage since. He's solid, but unspectacular.

That drop sure as hell pissed me off. He put it right in his hands. Couple that with his tendency to drift through zones and his halfassed attempts at blocking

I do think Pat is overrated and Mt Washington should replace him. If you can't block as a TE in the burg, you need to go!

Muth snaps were low likely due to them using an extra OL.

Jonnu Smith is. 16 targets for Smith, 10 for Friermuth, 4 for Washington, 1 for C. Heyward.

Interestingly though, for average yards it goes: Friermuth 9.3, Washington 6.7, Heyward 6.0, Smith 5.1

i like muth but wasn't at all thrilled they paid him like they did. the blocked FG was him late out of his stance and lack of effort. if you are only playing limited snaps you should play them well. he never has been a great blocker so who's idea was it to put him on the edge of the FG team? he was supposed to be a red zone asset but has become more ass and no et.

The scary thing is that IF that was by design, it is dangerously close to good coaching to start adjusting personal to fit the team you are playing against.......lol

Agree. I think being a 'fan fav' got him a bit of extra money. I wonder guaranteed money is a problem on a lot of these contracts. On his contract, 48.4 million over 4 years. 11.6 of it is guaranteed and that is all from the signing bonus and year 1 base salary. So, if he were to suffer a catastrophic injury this season, he potentially loses $37 million. That is incentive to protect yourself, not incentive to perform. This happens to a lot of players all around the NFL.....big contract followed by mediocre or worse pay.

It is a crazy idea, but I wonder if Anderson is getting Muth's Snaps?

The team has completely given up on Muth as a blocking TE, and have just decided to go all in on blocking and are replacing Muth with Anderson.

Possibly not just the run game but blocking on pass plays
