Big Ben stated that he would come to the sidelines and seek out Charlie Batch for info of what Charlie saw on the field. He also stated that he has been with Charlie in the film room from the start of his career and trusted his opinion.
What are the chances the Steelers hire Charlie as an Assistant QB Coach to keep that chemistry alive? http://www.post-gazette.com/stories...a-batch-full-of-success-685435/#ixzz2RxwysTD3

I think the chances of Charlie Batch being a QB coach in the NFL are very good.

The question to me is will it be in Pittsburgh?

Once Charlie actually retires...then yeah I think he could be a solid QB coach.

I've said a few times on here that I think we should be wary of thinking someone will be a good coach just because they are a good or inspirational player or whatever. I think, of all the players mentioned - Hines, Smith, etc. - Batch certainly has a better claim to be coach material than others.

    My only issues here are:
    a) For most of his career, Ben has been chided for not watching enough film. So I'm not sure this is the strongest testament to Batch ability to coach.
    b) Arguably, a good coach develops a QBs ability to read the game, not to make them dependent on the coach's own reading. So if Batch could see loads on the field and that helped Ben, great - but wouldn't it be better to have a QB coach who could instil that reading of the game into the guy on the field?

I hope I'm not coming across as being down on Batch - he may well be excellent coaching material.

I'd welcome the prospect of Charlie being an assistant QB coach in Pittsburgh.

I agree that good players don't always make good coaches but in Batch's defense, what position has he been in to make Ben watch more game film? That was/is his previous/current coach's job.

I'd like to see Batch get a shot at maybe an Asst. QB Coach if there is such a position. He is a vet that I imagine has the respect of the players, including Ben so he already has a little bit of an advantage.

The Steelers have a QB coach what's Batch going to do that the current QB coach doesn't do.

He could start as a consultant and it wouldn't count towards our coaches.

aren't they allowed a certain number of quality control personnel? I thought I spotted Duce Staley on the sidelines of an Eagles game last season so I went over to their site and was surprised to find that he was the special teams quality control coach I believe. This may give Charlie a taste of what coaching would be like and prepare him for moving from a primary career to a secondary one.

I will second this nomination, he is a great community man also.
The Steelers would be crazy not to offer him a job somewhere in their financial empire.

No but he was sporting an eagles visor similar to the one he had during his short lived career in Pittsburgh.
