Keith Butler LB coach said he doesn't expect him to play this season if he does it would be a miracle. They don't even know if he will be able to play in 2014 by then his career could be over.

If he can't play at all this upcoming season, I don't have much hope for him to ever do anything.

    Sean Spence

Bouchette says Butler says it would be miraculous if Sean plays again but he's rooting for him. Plans are to IR him again this year.

Its really sad to see such potential end.

Yeah, not going to see him this year but Butler said he's not giving up on him for 2014.

I feel for the kid. He was such a good college player, and had (hopefully still has) such promise as a pro. The Steelers are absolutely doing the right thing - both for the team and the kid - by keeping him on the roster for another year instead of cutting him. It looks grim, but hopefully a few years from now he is the focus of a feel-good story about overcoming adversity.

It's mostly due to the nerve damage in his knee.

If he had already been a superstar I would have doubted his return.

This really is a shame. I had high hopes for Spence, and it was devastating what happened to him. He went from potential star to sidelined in seconds. I know he's not the first player that has had their career put in jeopardy (or ended) during a rookie preseason game, but these situations always make me sad.

We need Myron Cope to bring a Myna bird or something.

Just read that Tomlin disagrees with Coach Butlers assessment of Spences injury, Tomlin said he expects a full recovery. ???

Unless there is a more recent quote from Butler then the one I saw, he never said Spence was done, he said he was done for the 2013 season but they aren't closing the door on him for 2014, he's still hopeful he recovers for next year and said the kid deserves that much.

I really hope he recovers because the coaches love him and seems like a real quality guy. It would be like having an extra draft pick next year.

if they like him they will like rolle. butler seem like he's throwing out some incentive to the kid. he's got 3 months to go. spence will work his butt off if its going to happen. he's got heath to work with and that has to be a good thing.

With all the medical advances, I think he has a shot but he will have to work for it.
