Ben was the OC when Finctner was the OC "in name only." :lolol:

Ben finally got to be like Tom Brady... for a season or two. Results weren't as good as Brady's... obviously.

Would they have thrived under Mike???? More food for thought. I love that phrase ever since I saw Robert Downey Jr. say it in a Sherlock Holmes movie.

Now I get why I saw those sunglass threads. I had to work backwards after seeing them. And I didn't have to glance at the avatar to guess who put them up.

Don’t think I had joined this board yet, but I recognize some of the names from other boards. Back then they were all Arians is the worst OC ever! All of our woes will be cured if he’s fired. He’s too buddy buddy with Ben blah blah blah. Those very same people make the same claims about every single coordinator, coach, assistant… we’ve had since.

Roethlisberger put up his best stats under Haley. Yeah, there were no Super Bowl wins, but those seasons pretty much catapulted him into the HOF, especially 2014... when he had back-to-back 6 TD games.

Plenty of players have thrived under Mike Tomlin. Sometimes guys are just going to be good, no matter what circumstance they end up in.... There are a lot of players who have been great players that developed on bad teams or with a poor coach. I don't buy the "Tomlin would've ruined them" narrative. Its all speculation. We have to remember that even Ben was a "developing QB" when Tomlin took over. He went from a high end game manager to one of the best in the league. Was that Tomlin's tutelage? Or was Ben just good? I'll go with the latter... There's no reason to believe that either Hurts or Jackson wouldn't have been just as special under Tomlin as they are for their respective teams.

Ben was already a Super Bowl champion QB and Rookie of the Year back in 2004. Also, Bruce Arians, who was our OC for the first five years under Tomlin, was much better with QBs.

It would have been a completely different situation for Lamar or Hurts... Do you think Randy Fitchner would have completely changed the entire offense for Lamar like the Ravens did with Jackson?

And I don't think Hurts would have been good in our situation with Matt Canada as OC, and don't forget Hurts wasn't very good in 2021... His OC, who was in 2022 and is currently the Colts' HC, is great with QBs during his career, when Anthony Richardson isn't his QB!...The eagles talent on offense is also much better

Being in a good situation and a good coach matters for the development of a QB or players and the problem for the steelers, not just at the QB position, our coaching staff has become weaker and weaker with the departures over the years of Haley, Munchak, the death of Drake, etc.

They haven't developed much in this decade so far
