Why don't the Steelers sign a kick return person for one of the other NFL teams ( 31 ) practice squad or the CFL?

I would assume Tomlin's crew has plenty of video on them.

If I were in the press for Pittsburgh I would ask him this question.

You'd think there has to be 32 guys who know how to return a KO but we get the dumb bunny.

I fully expect this to improve for us. Or should I say hope.

At this time of year, players that excel of something, are not on-demand available.
Gainwell has had some success and could be the right man for the job. He averages 26yds/rtn, of course one was 33 yds.
I'm not tossing Kaleb out yet. It was an awful mistake - a monumental one at that.
And he could turn out to be a busted pick (way to go Omar) but I want to make that determination if and when he cannot make it onto the field.
I think they signed 3 players this week. They may have something in the NE LB but that remains to be seen.

They aren't going to sign a guy just to KR if he can't do something else, why not try Scotty Miller he's fast and he's not doing anything on offense.

Hmmmm, any wilder than the Tomlin kicked my dog hate? :hehehe:
But this guy doesn't get a free pass. WE had a article about "how great his draft was"
I just want proof, "can't we just get along?"
    :lolol:

There have been so decent kick returners over the years, but I also recall quite a few head catchers. I honestly do not know the history of the guys on the team and the experiences, but evidently you do not need anything more than your first year in college with a couple of tries more 3 years ago to get the call.

We don't need a kick off return man, we have
A couple on practice squad that could do the job. Trey Sermon comes to mind.

No stats but it has seemed thus far that the Steelers are barely getting out to the 20-25 on KO returns while the opposition has regularly been making it well beyond the 30. If you re-watch KJ's very first KO return in the Jets game there was no one anywhere near him and he was already tripping over his own feet on a dry field and essentially stumbled to the turf at the first touch. The poor returns coupled with the bonehead brain fart last week, he's having a very rough start as is Danny Smith teaching these guys how to learn and adjust to the new quirky KO rules.

On the return before his brain fart one he caught the ball on the goal line meaning that if he would have let it land we would have got the ball at the 35. Instead he returned it and slogged his way out to the 18 costing the offense 17 yards.

Exactly! Prior to the Seattle game he had 11 KO returns (Pre-season and Week 1) with about a 25 yd return average. So he had some experience at that point.
