i saw both down linemen getting pushed back at least two steps at first. why just a benton problem? nobody to fill gaps because they are so worried about coverage with the LB'ers. Sunday we sent more interior LB'ers into the backfield then i have seen in the past. it didn't work too badly many times.

1 tackle, 2 assists.... shades of a small Dan McCullers

 

Yet another MT draft pick going in the wrong direction. I think a lot of it is he is playing out of place he is not big enough to be a 3-4 NT.

So here's a confounding point..

These guys sit in the film room.

Now I wonder, at part of the conversation, if any, does "This isn't working" come up?
It doesn't take much of a footlball IQ to see plays with Benton getting laid out.
Do they need a tutor to come in and explain the film to them?

Benton is not a surprise to me at all. He suffers from the same issues in the pros as he did in college.

He can not anchor against double teams. He gets knocked off his feet often. And his inconsistent technique gets him pushed around.

Alternatively, he has plays where he looks like a bad ass.

Also, in what world is Benton a DE in a 3-4? That is just nonsense. He might also be a bad 3-4 NT but he wouldn't succeed as an end either.

Not good, as usual. The chin would’ve been spitting in his face, like YEARS ago. AND then, no more Benton. Sheesh, just constant.

We don't run 34 enough for him to be a 34 DE. He's a IDL in a 425... which isn't much better tbh.

 

I think all the D-lineman should be put on blast, they are soft, they are getting blown off the ball almost every play.

 

He’s just not a NT. Hard to believe the coaching staff can’t see it. He’s not improving at all. If anything, he’s getting worse.

 

Karl Dunbar is no John Mitchell

 

Yea. Some fans say it ain't Dunbar but I'm not convinced. Getting progressively worse each season is a telltale sign of coaching, unless he has an injury we don't know about.

 

I heard some in the media say Benton wears a brace or something on his arm and he was dealing with an injury in training camp, for his sake I hope it's an injury because getting blown off of the ball isn't going to cut it.

 

Seems opponents know to bully the Steelers DLine and enjoy the success.
