over-all, I don't dislike it.... what I can say is that it was good.......... I just haven't fallen in love with it yet, although, the more I break it down it is starting to grow on me..................... rd. 1 ---- Jarvis jones olb ga. like the pick. obviously, the spinal stenosis is concerning, but it didn't slow him down when he was terrorizing sec competition while leading the nation in sacks....... rd. 2 ---- le'veon bell rb. mich. st. always liked bell.... he has very good feet for a guy his size. running style reminds me of bam morris a little. still think it was a little high for a runner.. I was hoping for margus hunt, or john hankins here, but i'll take it... I think he has a bright future ahead of him. rd. 3 ---- markus wheaton wr ore st. one of those picks that is growing on me.. kind of looks like hines ward with speed rd. 4a--- shamarko Thomas ss syr. my favorite pick.... I've been pimping shamarko for quite some time now, and didn't think he would be available after the 3rd...... great job rd. 4b--- landry jones qb okl. a bit of a surprise here. gave up a 3rd next yr. for him, which in a sense isn't much, since we will probably get 2 3rd's as comp picks for mike Wallace and keenan lewis.... with that in mind, it was actually a shrewd move by the f.o. and landed us a young qb with loads of potential rd. 5 ---- terry hawthorne cb ill. classic pitt. move. a cb that likes to hit (and hit hard) with size and ability to stay with receivers.... lots of upside, but easily injured. actually reminds me of lewis a lot, although he hits a bit harder. will force more fumbles than int's. rd. 6a --- Justin brown wr. okl. not sure about this one. he seems like a fluid runner, but I was really hoping for Cornelius Washington here..... this pick just didn't make much sense to me rd. 6b ---- vince Williams lb fla. st. now this is more like it. plays a lot like spence, and has the ability to push foote out the door...... rd. 7 ----- nick Williams dt samford. don't know much about him, although the more I read, the more I like. small college prospect that has a lot of athletic ability, and strength. obviously needs some schooling, but can hold his ground against double teams.... not much more than a bull rusher when it comes to getting in the backfield, but that can be taught. this kid has potential.

As a side not they didnt trade up for Landry they traded up for Shamarko. they used their existing 4th for Landry.

i like shamarko alot, but i really can't believe out of all the good safeties that were in this draft, he is the one we ended up with. maybe it's how syracuse used him. i watched him quite a few times this year and saw more LB then cover guy. i brought shamarko's name to the board this year. his speed and the run support part of his game is great. i'll have to see more coverage from him. i have heard they are high on golden, another guy i was high on last year. can he and shamarko be the dynamic duo we have now in time? possibly soon?

i love the bell pick. the rest are vying for the BU spot.

jarvis is solid. the back will get worse in time, but we got some time with him.

wheaton is solid all around except for a bad habit of body catching too much at times.

    landry jones. love it.

hawthorne i like, but needs some of our carnell magic placed on him. i had him in my first mock in the pimp your guy thread way back. he rose, he fell. we still got him. solid pick that late. added speed to the secondary. both spots.

    williams 1, i don't know.

brown, i'm not sold yet. i need to see more production.

williams2, seems built well. good speed. lots of competition on the d-line this year.

udfa o-line backups coming to a mini camp near you. we got big joe from wvu already. i like him. i believe he was on my mock with hawthorne way back.

it is what it is, let's rock.

Hate it, wasted pick, could have taken Simon there. Bray and Griffin are sitting as FA's, could have tried to grabbed one of them and possibly Jones, who knows if anyone else would have taken him if we hadn't

No offense, but everyone saying Bray, Bray, Bray. There's a reason he wasn't drafted, dude just isn't that great of a player. I can respect you pimping him, but give it a rest. How do you expect me to listen to you talk smack about Landry when the QB you're pimping went undrafted?

I was hoping for Philip Thomas, who was known for producing more turnovers and plays on the ball. Shamarko does seem like another LB out there, and less of a cover guy.

Chill out man, I haven't been pimping him, Jack has and I'm not talking smack about landry, I didn't want any QB. I wanted Simon there, a guy that would have given us so much more then a back up QB.

    Damn, Thanx, Blastfurnace.
You just answered one of the questions I had, in my response in another thread about taking Landry Jones...
I didn`t know John Simon was still available.
Don`t know if I would say that Landry was a "wasted" pick, in that case, but I would have preferred Simon.
    Thanx for the info.

I'm not thrilled about it but it is what it is. Very suspect individuals in the spots they got them with what seems to be better players that they passed up. I don't understand the Laundry pick at all. With all the other pressing needs we had i thought qb would be at the bottom of the list.
But I hope we get at least three starters from this draft and several backups.

Of course all speculation. Simon could easily be buried on the depth chart as a backup for years just like Landry...with the Steelers having a number of those kind of depth/backup guys at LB they went in a direction that was a whole lot thinner. Unfortunately none of us could have predicted who would be there as UDFAs...had they been guaranteed Landry being an UDFA or there later...I'm sure they would have went with someone else.

The Steelers themselves said that they would be looking at possibly getting a QB in the draft....dont see how this is so shocking to some of you when the team said it themselves. They only had 1 QB besides Ben that will make the team...they needed that young guy they wanted and they went and got him when they felt it was right.

It's not that they drafted a qb it's where when there was several other people that might be more beneficial. These individuals where still on the board after Laundry:
Khaseen Greene OLB Good play inside
    Phillip Thomas SS
    Johnathan Franklin RB
    Jesse Williams DT
    AJ Klein ILB
    Baccari Rambo SS

I just think they probably could of gotten him or another quarterback later in the draft if not undrafted free agent.

Reading comprehension isn't your friend. I feel it's a wasted pick because I don't feel we need to use a pick on a guy who will barely see the field. We passed on a LB that would have given us so much more in return. You getting it yet, holy crap.

Just curious but whats the deal on this simon? Everyone is pissed that we didnt draft a lb who was selected in the mid rounds. Must be a bunch of ohio st homers on here because when i look at the games williams looks like he plays faster and hits like a truck

Simon isn't going to win anyone over with his athleticism but the guy is a football player of the highest order, he's a born leader with a motor that never stops and his work ethics puts everyone else to shame, it's not always about the stats, you have to look for intangibles. The way you are always going on about bad character and selfish players with Tennessee, I'd think you'd understand that. And the guy can play, it's not like he sucks, total weight room nut too. You watch, he's going to torment us for the next 10 years with the Ravens.

Simon reminds we of a slower Woodley. I don't think he will be much of a pass rush specialist. Might be good in run support though.

does no one remember how helpless we were last season once ben went down? Landry could mean an extra win per season over the next 3 years, plus a potential long term solution once, dare I say it, Ben retires

I didnt mean anything bad. I just never heard of him till i started seeing people pimping him on here. Some people had him as the best lb coming out it seemed. I was just asking if he was as good as that or is there a bunch of ohio st fans on here. I am guilty of it. I wanted bama players.

I guess it's time to weigh in, sitting on the sidelines since joining this site. The only person I remember from the old site is Hack and I have always valued his opinion. All this being said, everything I own is black and gold, including my blood. I usually don't comment on boards, but I like staying in touch with the greatest fan base and greatest sport franchise ever, by reading everyone's passionate comments.
I have added interest in this year's draft because of distant ties to Landry and Justin. I have seen both of these guys practice and play, seemingly hundreds of times. My scouting report.......
Landry-will be a work in progress. Positives: Excellent arm, great touch, mentally strong, very coachable, great character guy
Negatives: Mobility, happy feet, reading defenses
Outlook: Can he be our QB after Ben? If he got Brady like protection, I would give him a decent shot, but should easily be a serviceable backup
JB-is an absolute steal. He dominated practices and once he got acclimated to OU, Stoops started using him every opportunity he could.
Positives: Sure handed, blocks, deceptive speed, blocks some more, not afraid to go over the middle, used as punt returner, blocks again, intelligence
Negatives: Doesn't have blazing speed, separation skills in man to man coverage
Outlook: I think he is a faster and younger version of Cotchery. More of a possession receiver, good in the locker room, depth and security if Sanders leaves.
As in every case, no one knows how people will or can adapt at this next level, but Colbert and Tomlin must see some promise in these guys, as well as the others we drafted. Hopefully some of them can help contribute to #7. Thanks for listening. GO STEELERS.
Also, one more tidbit...regarding Jarvis Jones, who I love as our first pick, I have the exact same spinal stenosis and been have for about 10 years now. There are good days and bad ones, however it's something that doesn't change drastically. I do not not believe, at all, that this is a risky pick, as some people think.
