But for the turnover, might that be the Pgh paper headlines about Fields? :hmm:

Not really. Fields was 4-2 here and had been showing improvement. It doesn’t surprise me he looked good yesterday. Still needs to elevate his game more.

It's certainly a better setting for him without looking constantly over his shoulder at his obvious replacement. He seemed more poised and confident. Can't believe the Steelers didn't have a spotter on him most of that game.

    Fields did nothing wrong yesterday.
And as I mentioned in another thread, Tomlin really should have benched Wilson at some point during that skid.
Maybe Halftime during the 2nd loss.
Of course with a "rathers" I'd rather have Rogers over Fields and go for a draft QB...

I might contradict myself but Fields was having to relearn how to be a QB here.
As much as I am not confident in our QB development, they were preaching 'throw safe' and high percentage passes.
He is getting more of it in New York under Glenn and it looks like maybe it might take.
I know I kept waiting on the back breaking INT but it didn't happen.

Fields is what he is an average to above average running qb. Sure he looked good but almost any qb looks great when the run game is unstoppable. He is better than Wilson and Mason though.

what Rodgers did yesterday not many qbs can do that. No run game, line crumbling instantly, then throwing 4 tds with a 135 rating.

I know it's early, but if Rodgers can remain healthy the Steelers might try to sign him for next season. Then they can concentrate on the drafting linemen.

Especially that rollout TD. Nobody even went his way. 11 defensive players and he fooled every single one of them. How could that possibly happen with a running QB?

There was a CB and S outside of TJ within three yards of the LOS on that play. How they both got sucked in I have no idea.

I pains me to admit anything good about Fields. I choked and gagged when I saw he was coming here.
At best, if he does "re-learn" the QB position, he'll be average or maybe slightly better than.
I don't pine for him at all. But he did operate that system better than I thought he would.

I felt like while the Jets may have lost the game, I don't think that Fields lost. He had a great showing imo. He made some really good throws and ran enough to keep our defense honest.

That's a true statement. However, everything that happens in the game leads to something else happening. If we hadn't had that turn over, maybe we would have had an interception that ran back for six on the next play, or maybe the Jets would have scored and we followed that up with our own scores. There are a lot of events in the game that you can point to as being pivotal when it's close. But you can also look at some of the Jets plays and say the same thing.

At the end of the day, the events that happened led to the outcome. A win is a win.

There are a lot of quarterbacks in the good category that have that coveted ring. And there's a few great quarterbacks that don't have one at all. It's all about the team. Can the individual players elevate each other at the right time of the season to get that super bowl win? That's what really matters.

I think that Fields has what it takes to be a starter in the NFL. If they build a good team around him, they could go all the way.

The Steelers were never the right team for Justin fields. The Steelers have a game plan and look for players to fit into that game plan. They are not looking to change what they do to fit individual players, even if those individuals are key to the teams success. With the Steelers ground and pound game plan, you would think a running quarterback would really fit in well. But that has never seemed to be a part of the Steelers game.

I agree except for the lineman part...if there is a QB there you gotta take him. Unless they think Howard is next in line.

I think that second sentence will ring true for Joe Burrow if he stays in Cincinnati. The Bengals paid four players a ton of money and have a trash heap everywhere else on the team.

Yeah the Jets play the Bills this week. If Fields has a good game against them then maybe he has turned the corner in his career.

    This.

The fact that the Steelers gave up on Fields still pisses me off. I expect him not only to improve but also have New York contend for a Playoff Spot should Fields continue his Ascension. Aaron Glenn has been a great pickup.

This isn't the same old Jets anymore.

In a Multiverse Reality, all of that is true. And to think, IF five teams had not pulled out last minute heroics in Week 1, I'd be at the bottom of page 2 in the Pickem Contest. :drinks:

    Exactly dude.
You can point to two , or 3 plays almost every freaking game that is being played, and show why a team beat another team.
It kinda like people saying we would have lost without the field goal.
I can't even begin to remember how many teams would have lost a game without a field goal being made to decide it.
Some people just love to complain. It's something in them.
