Nice to move the goal post again. If You go back, and read, instead of just jumping in without knowing what the conversation is about, you tend to look foolish. The conversation was about passing, so nothing else outside of passing has bearing on what is being discussed. I'm sure you will try though anyway. LoL

Hurts has become a much better passer now than he was in his first two years in the NFL and in college.

And my point is, passing yards and TDs aren't everything. For example, if you look at Roethlisberger in 2004 and 2005, his TD passes and yards weren't impressive, but if you look at everything else, he was great!....It's the same for Hurts!

 

True and having an OC who knows something about the passing game also helped...His previous OC(Greg Roman) was great for the running game but he doesn't know how to use his wide receivers....This was also a problem for Roman in San Francisco

 

Hurts got better because he got AJ Brown.

Allen got better because he got Diggs.

You have to give QB’s real weapons if you want them to thrive if they aren’t HOFers out the gate.

Look at Purdy. Dude is great when he has his weapons and his LT. Once he loses a weapon and the LT goes down he looks below average.

 

Allen win the MVP last year with Diggs in Houston....

 

Well the Raiders traded for Pickett to be their backup QB.

 

Trey Lance looks as good as he ever has this year in Preseason. He won the Chargers backup job and will get to spend the entire year with Harbaugh and Roman this season.

Anthony Richardson is still only 22, so I wouldn't count him out just yet.

 

Oh, by no means am I saying Allen isn’t a good QB who didn’t deserve an MVP last year.

What I don’t agree with is Allen becoming insanely accurate his 3rd year (or whatever year it was) due to “hard work”

Look at his WR group his first year or 2 vs the year his accuracy improved. It just so happened to jump when he got Diggs.

When you give a QB a great WR with a great catch radius and precise route running you tend to improve as a QB.

True.. but look at his numbers with Diggs and without Diggs and tell me there wasn't an obvious boost with Diggs.

Josh Allen passing stats:
2018: 52%, 2074 yards 10/12 (rookie year and didn't play the whole season)
2019: 58%, 3089 yards 20/9
2020: 69%, 4500 yards 37/10 OMG, hard work.. oh yeah, Diggs arrived and had 127 catches and 1500 yards
2021: 63% 4400 yards 36/15
2022: 63% 4300 yards 35/14
2023: 66% 4300 yards 29/18
2024: 64% 3700 yards 28/6 - MVP year without Diggs.

I mean.. Allen was efficient last year and also ran the ball a ton but look at 2020 where people point out his improved accuracy like he really put in a ton of work when the reality is he got one of the best WR's in the game which made life a lot easier.

All I'm saying is the "Allen accuracy improvement" is a myth.

When you have a young QB the best thing you can do is get them a proven weapon at WR to make things easier.

 

I agree Diggs had a impact on Allen but the supporting cast on offense was very weak in the first 2 years too

 

Definitely!!! I've always pushed back at those who said Allen had an incredible jump due to his dedication. Look at the roster the first 2 years vs year 3.

My whole point is Allen is a prime example of what is possible when you invest in your QB instead of just throwing him to the wolves year after year.

I would've preferred investing in Metcalf while we had Kenny to see if that helped.
Kept Dotson at his natural position.
Put Jones at LT his rookie year and found a decent RT.
Fired Matt Canada and got a younger OC who didn't want 12 TE's and actually demanded a real #2.

If we invested in our offense like we invest in our defense I think we would see better results. We are way too cheap on offense and drafting rookies early isn't how you build a good offense because it takes time for those guys to develop.

Eagles drafted well but they also got Hurts AJ Brown and Barkley. We are still getting old vets on the cheap hoping it works. Our lead RB is a UFDA with ball security issues. Our approach on offense is ridiculous.

 

We were talking about passing, so anything that didn't have to do with actually passing the ball doesn't pertain to the discussion. He was just as good as a passer in college.
What makes him special is the leadership qualities, and the desire to win, no matter what, without having to stroke his ego.

 

That is a fact that I have thought the Ravens really did well. They built a team to support Jackson's play style rather than trying to have Jackson be the next Flacco.

 

Agreed, but this year their backup Qb is nothing like Jackson so it will look totally different if Jackson goes down.

 

Having a rookie quarterback progress in a positive direction under a Matt Canada offense is about the same as expecting freedom of religion during the dark ages.

The game plan was basically hand off to a slow running back and have him run over to the sideline and try and beat the defensive backs there, after that fails a couple of times and we get to the third and long, we're going to throw a 40-yard pass to George Pickens that's going to sometimes result in an awesome play but will more likely result in a punt. When we want to mix in a few throws, they'll be dump off to the running back or short passes to the sideline near the line of scrimmage.

 

That's called good coaching. I love Mike Tomlin but the man has gone rigid when it comes to offense.

 

The word you are looking for is "CLUTCH". The great ones have it. Roethlisberger showed it early, Brady, Allen, Hurts, Mahomes, LJ (?? hmm not sure about him yet at the highest levels.)

 

You do realize the circumstances in Cleveland, including his injury, dictated that, correct?

 

Come on, Blast. You know better than this. The injury kept him out all preseason, ending any chance to beat out Flacco for the starting job. It has been clear since they drafted Gabriel and Sanders that they would look to trade Pickett if he didn't win the starting job, which is exactly what happened. They got roughly the same value the gave for him.

Now if he keeps getting hurt, yes, his career is going to be over very soon. Teams aren't going to want him even as a backup if he continues to display durability similar to that of Teddy Bridgewater, but your depiction of what happened with Pickett in Cleveland was oversimplification, to say the least.
