Bucs smoke em in game 1. I'm feeling sweep.

 

Nice to see the young pitchers excel. Seems like a glimmer of hope

 

It was wise to bring up Bubba for the Rockies series. Bad team with worse road record. Built some confidence for the young man. He was floundering recently at AAA for whatever reason (bored?) - just shows how some MLB teams compare to AAA talent - Bucs not excluded.

 

For what it's worth (2 cents?) Bucs game free again today (Saturday) on MLB.TV and free on Roku (Lady ump behind the plate for 1st time) tomorrow (Sunday) when Skenes is scheduled. If he doesn't falter (no pun intended) from here to end of season, his Cy Young chances just increased with Zak Wheeler out for the remainder. Skenes could finish 1st in ERA, WHIP and Ks. His below avg record certainly isn't his fault.

 

Any other team looking at the Pirates to get a pitcher should never consider their W/L record.

I have the solution: Hire a hypnotist to make them believe they are always at PNC Park.

 

An owner who had just a little desire to have a decent ballclub would have made the Bucs an over .500 team. The Pirates had an above average pitching staff. What a mother F waste.

 

Kiddies lost a tough one last night against the Cards.

 

They DFAed Heaney (about time), sent Simon back down. I was hoping to see Hunter Barco called up but they brought Moreta back. Also activated Cruz from concussion protocol.Would like to see Chandler in the rotation.
Pirates presently going simeofecal on Cardinals, 7-0 in third inning.

 

Bucs 2 wins away from the elusive 60 win club

 

Only 5 more and they can lock in a non 100 game losing season.
Actually I am more interested in their record under Kelly, which must be close to .500. Just two or three guys who hit above the Mendoza line and they could be a much better club than we have seen.

 

I don't ever recall this many Bucs hitting at or well below the Mendoza level. Not even anyone near .300. To think of all those great hitters in the past who hit for average - Freddy Sanchez, Matty Alou, Manny Mota, Matlock, Parker, Oliver, Van Slyk, Bonds and of course Groat, Stargell and #21. So many batting titles. Now if a guy can hit .270 for them, he's at the top of the leader board. Well at least the team ERA is respectable for what that's worth.

 

Mojave, they do suck offensively, but part of it is the times. There are a bunch of monsters on the mound, most of seven feet tall and throwing triple digits. Averages are way down, and there is only one .300 hitting regular in the NL, Freddie Freeman who is hitting .302. At this rate, they may have to move the pitcher’s mound back a foot or two. I have the feeling that pitching is close to the limits of human reaction time. You always had outliers, Walter Johnson may have thrown in the 90s, Bob Feller in the high 90s, Nolan Ryan at the century mark. But now it is a LOT of them. Backup infielders now strike out as much as Reggie Jackson or Willie Stargell.
With a few solid .260 hitters with medium power, they would be a good team.
They won again tonight. Chandler got his first win. He looked sharp again.
