Steelers go with Corliss Waitman

I liked Johnston better he was more consistent. With Johnston you always you knew you were getting a decent punt from him. Waitman has a stronger leg but every once in awhile he shanks a 30 yarder off the side of his foot. But the Steelers brass has gone with Waitman so I hope he becomes a pro bowl punter this year.

I mean for his entire 8 year career he was always a consistent punter but Waitman does have a better leg so the Steelers went with him.

 

So Pittsburgh is actually using analytics more often?! That is an interesting case there. Wonder how many other positions does the team use analytics?!

This is a six of one, half dozen of another situation. Either guy will do fine.

Lets hope he gets very few punts this season.......

We had 68 punts in 2024 which was a 3 way tie at 19th fewest. Lions had 45, Browns had 89.

Average of 46.5 yards which was tied for 23rd longest. Bucs were at 43.7 and Lions were at 51.0.

We were in a 4 way tie for 19th for fewest out of bound kicks with 7. Chiefs had zero, Jags had 17.

Seems like both were pretty even in camp... probably went with Waitman because Johnston is coming off the injury.

I'm happy with Waitman... it is a shame though, last year before the injury Johnston seemed like he had the potential to have an elite year.

To be fair, lets see what that hang time is when it gets colder later in the year.

As I said, I wonder if Pittsburgh using more Analytics. Never stated they did. Alex just took the numbers from PFF.


PFF still uses their own methods to calculate things. Hang time shouldn't be one of them but who knows with PFF?! I still don't get this whole obsession of "pass rush win rate" yet that is a big thing.

 

Isn't there already a thread on roster cuts merge the threads.

Hang time has been around since the '70s. That PFF claims to do its own work doesn't make it something new.
