The TE is one of the most versatile positions in all of sports. Akin to the utility infielder in baseball. TEs are used inline , blocking like OL. They are used in a slot WR position. At the wide WR position. They get used as the FB/HB as well. Plus they need to know the entire WR route tree, OL blocking calls, and RB blocking assignments. What would be the point of converting a 'GOOD' TE into a OT that only does the one job? If Washington is truly a TE of high caliber, moving him to OT would be a wasted thing.

How are Steeler fans this against an idea that worked for them in the past :lolol:

And Washington would be way better than AV, hes got the skill to be a great tackle.

No. Tomlin should convert to a head coach who knows how to use a TE like Washington.

Yes, blaming Tomlin, not his latest idiot coordinator.

It sounds like Washington is more confident and showing flashes in this camp. The issue could also be his progression into a 3rd year vet.

Ask the Falcons how well Arthur Smith utilizes playmakers.

Washington is on the record that he could switch to tackle if needed. But he is a bit undersized at this point. I can see him helping out Jones a lot this season due to our 42 year old QB's blindside.

Didn't see the game but how was Broderick Jones play? Won't be on NFL Network until Tuesday at 3:00pm.

I havent seen it yet either but from some of what I read, he had another nice outing. Think he had one ugly rep in there but other wise he played well.

Becoming a LT doesn't happen overnight Washington would have to add more weight and learn a lot of the blocking techniques for this to happen.

No, if we had an OC that knew how to use him He could
Be another John Mackie. Hell Antonio Gates made HOF
Just by being able to( block out) Db's

Lots of TEs throughout the History of the NFL are not Gronks , but that doesn’t make them bad TEs.
Kelce is just a pass catcher, and not a true TE, he can't block worth crap.
What You are suggesting is taking a guy that can do two things, and making him only do one.
We know he can catch if thrown to him, and we know he can block. Why would we take that away.
If he's a OL the D knows what he will do, if He's a TE, you keep them guessing.

Nobody is saying he couldn't do it, we are saying it's a bad Idea for a TE that could be good, if He played with Qbs that were either good, or that look to pass more than run.
Again....His targets doubled as soon as we changed Qbs last year.
The 25 targets, and 19 receptions shows he can catch.
What You are suggesting is great for TEs that can't catch well. Like Jason Peter's.

Took AV a year and went from 250 to 340lbs. Washington is so much further ahead than AV both in experience and weight it would take him even less time. I’m not suggesting for them to do it right now, I’m saying if their tackle position doesn’t pan out it would be an option.

I don’t think he ever will be that TE but if he did become that, it would change the narrative for me.

He’d have to be Gronk good though, LT is far more valuable than a mid TE.

I can’t believe New England didn’t turn Gronk into a tackle he would have been good at it

AV and Feiler were brought along at the same time as D linemen switched to olinemen. It took them 2 years of learning and not playing to achieve that. Neither was a draft pick. If they didn't workout we lost nothing.

Maybe inststead of converting Washington to a OT, they could have drafted OTs in the first round. Oh, wait they did. Not ready to give up on the two #1s yet, but I am wondering about Jones.
