He wasn't going to start the season as RB1, he needs to get better at pass protection and catching the ball.

I'm not saying he'll be as good as Bell, since that's unlikely, but I remember in Bell's first preseason game in 2013, he was also awful and looked very slow, and he got injured and missed the first month of the season because of it... There was also a lot of complaining about taking Bell over Eddie Lacy in the 2013 draft.

Long story short, the overreaction after the first preseason game for a rookie are just crazy!

Perfect analysis. So what he looked meh in the first preseason game. We knew he was a 2 down back coming out and needed to develop as a blocker and pass catcher. Who cares if his first 8 preseason carries weren't perfect. I am much more interested in how he runs in the games. How quickly the tune will change if he goes off in the next preseason game lol people are so fickle. Just let the kid figure out how to be a pro. There is zero reason to be worried about him at this stage of his career.

I hated the running game from the first preseason game. 25 carries for 65 yards and no TDs.

But, as Aaron Rodgers pointed out, We don't know what the Steelers game plan was for the first practice game of the year. Starting RB did not play at all. #2 RB played a whopping 4 plays and had Zero Carries. My guess is the Steelers plan was to get Rudolph out on the field and play with all these WRs, to see who is making the 53 man roster.

In the 4th QTR even the Jag Announcers commented how the Steelers offense was now in run mode with Big Lew chewing up 5 yards a carry to close out the game.

Also, people forget that Kaleb is a 3rd round running back, so there are going to be some growing pains. If there weren't Kaleb would have went in the 1st round.

    Not worried one bit.
If He was the only rb on the team, and this was week 8 of the regular season........then.....then, I'd be worried.

People are acting like he was a first round pick?
    Um, 3rd .
My guess is he will be better than Roman Wilson, DeMarvin Leal, Kendrick Green , Justin Layne, Sammie Coates, Dri Archer and the list of 3rd round busts goes on and on.
I bet KJ has a good career , at least as good as Alex Highsmith , another 3rd rounder.

Sorry man, I have just been hearing all camp long how the Steelers wanted to be more physical this year and really get after people in the run game.

Preseason week one and the offense is playing "Tiptoe threw the Tulips" with the passing game. But, like I said in my post; I have no idea what the Steelers wanted to do in that game, with their 1st and 2nd running back basically standing on the side line all game long.

I wrote about his blocking in one of my posts from camp..
I'm not worried about his running.... I've seen better from him.
His blocking, well, it is not so good. I think he will improve, he has worked on it.

Alex Kozora hits the nail on the head with his tweet. The issue isn't in Kalebs Running Ability. The shortcomings with Kaleb lie within his lack of overall refinement. Should he continue to stagnate throughout his Rookie Season, then and only then should the discussion be brought up. Until then?! Give him some time.

Brooke Pryor is histrionic and therefore any opinions she makes should be taken as lightly as possible. :lolol:

Why bother with this clickbait nonsense? If they got four 1,000-yard seasons from a third-round pick, I would be thrilled. If this guy can be as good as Harris was, that would be a huge win for the Steelers.

The problem is he has been overhyped and saddled with big expectations. Going to come in be RB 1 right out of the gate and run for 200 yards every game.

He’s a 3rd rd pick who will take time to learn the nuisances of the game at this level.

I could see the Steelers bringing him along slowly while committing to Warren this season and then moving on from him and KJ takes over next season.

Well you're in luck! The first preseason game is always a perfect indicator on how the season will go, so we know what we have to do now!

Jokes aside, it seems pretty clear what our plan is for the running game. We're going to run some zone runs and use a good bit of misdirection and move the pocket a bit in the passing game. We can run to soften up the pass and vice versa. We will get to use a lot of heavy personnel to create mismatches on teams that prioritized speed and twitch over power. Our backs are much more explosive this year, if the OL plays well we should rip off some good chunk plays in the run game too. I don't care much that we sucked at running in the preseason. I'll start to worry when Warren isn't able to find room to run. We saw enough to see where the direction of the offense is headed. I just hope we execute on Sundays.

Or, we pay Warren to be the 3rd down back and go by committee anyways... Very few teams have one major back. I hope Johnson can develop into that guy, but even if he's just a good two down back that is valuable.

Was hoping he could come on this season and take over and maybe he still will but this is a solid take and might be the ultimate outcome.
