Forget about Arch Manning, the hottest project coming out of Texas is Jerry Mander. He must be really good they're talking about him all over the news.

It's Cam's word, and likely could be true, but the issue I have with this hole thing is the way it has been presented. It was some discussion or interview, maybe he and the team had words and they said F that and this is his way of getting traction, but for a guy to to talk about Arron 'either you want to be a Steeler or you don't", then pulling this, it just seems ill fated. The team over the years been called cheap, but I recall times when the check book was opened when they did not have to, Tommy Maddox for one. Perhaps there was tried communication, this just looks wierd.

It would likely depend on the wording and structure of the bonus, but teams do have options. When Andrew Luck retired he had a huge amount of signing bonus that had been paid, I remember talk about the Colts being able to go after it, but they chose not to,

The orginal 'taxi Squad' was guys who drove taxi on the off season to make a buck. This may be just legend, but if I recall correctly it was the bears, or so the story went.

And dont go to far on how lucky they got it, getting to old, but in the 60's a star Cowboy player went to the owner and said so and so (equally stats in the position) just got a contract for x amount of bucks, owner said no problem. When the player saw the contract, it was that amount, spread over 2 years, lol. it was on YT, cant remember names, but players were held captive until the AFL, then the union.

I'd like to see that. Might make the game better. They'd be playing their ass off every season if they wanted paid.

I had a neighbor who was always faking injuries at whatever job he had to try and collect a big settlement. It never worked out until he claimed he slipped and fell while working at Sheetz. Sheetz agreed to pay him $60,000 and he crowed and bragged about buying a boat, 2 quads for him and his wife and other gadgets with the 60 grand. At the magistrates office the magistrate announced that both sides agreed to the $60,000 settlement but he was granting the Sheetz request that the money was to be paid over a period of 30 years. The dumbass ended up getting around $83 a month for 30 years.

They got rid of guys who they knew were done

I don’t think they are there with Cam. He was first team All Pro last season

I don’t know what he is looking for but he has been reasonable with contract stuff always. The team should just get a fair deal done IMO, which I expect they will

Bad look on a 50 yr old lineman that disappears in meaningful games. Bye Felecia!
This new generation is just chock full of mediocrity
Adding, players now getting hurt in team practices, no more practicing just like no preseason games.
Soft, we have become soft as a whole.

This appears to be heading towards an awful divorce if what Shefter said is true. If the Steelers aren't willing to pay him and he sits out the entire season, I got to imagine his career is over.

Is it really that much of a loss? 36 years old who disappears in the playoffs.

It doesn't matter if he told them he would come back to renegotiate after an All-Pro season, the team doesn't have to offer him more money he still has two years left on his contract.

To the point of @steelersrule6@steelersrule6, Pittsburgh is likely banking on its contingency plan should Heyward not play; the combined efforts of Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon and Yayha Black. Beyond Heyward, a lot of unproven players or in Bentons case, one that needs to rebound. Asking Benton though to step it up in such a manner for him to be at least a Pro Bowl level IDL in Year Three is quite the leap of faith.

We will have to see if Benton truly has grown enough on his own. Like Zach Frazier, Graham Barton is going to be a handful for many IDLs. Here is hoping that Benton can step up to the challenge.

No matter how hard I try I just can’t bring myself to feel sorry for these multi millionaire players for a couple months of entertainment. I remember back a while ago when they all went on strike and brought in the scrubs. Maybe it’s time to get back to that and for them to get back to the reality that you don’t have to always make more than the last guy to survive in this country. They seem to be more into playing the game of greed than actual football itself.

The team is not offering more money. Thus, the hold out/in. If there is a bad look it is on management for not believing a player will do what he says and being prepared. Can't be a bad look on Cam for doing exactly what he said he would do.

And for others, what does Cam's age have to do with renegotiating? He was 1st team All-Pro just last season. Just offer him a roster bonus that puts him in the top10 for this season, around $10M, and be done with this. The Steelers do need #97 whether you guys think he is too old or not.

If that's all it takes, just get it done. This doesn't look good for either side, nor does it help the team. Many contracts these days have language that protect the team against player actions like committing a crime, holding out, etc., that effectively breach said contract and carry consequences that cancel salary and can include the return of guaranteed dollars. So if Cam said that last year, his agent would have known if that language was included and thus was an empty threat, just as the team would've known if it wasn't.

Both sides should've just agreed upon performance incentives to be included and saved this whole mess from needing to be addressed. Poor business sense that now threatens the rest of the team. Not happy with either side.

Honestly I would cut him. Pittsburgh needs to start setting examples we are the team to play for, not get a fat paycheck for.

If you can’t feel bad for the multi millionaire players (which I agree) how can you feel bad for the multi billionaire owners? The whole system is a joke and gets worse each year.
