If they pulled the trigger on something like this, they'd be pitting Wilson against Austin for the slot role - which would be signaling either little interest in bringing Austin back on a second contract, or little faith in Wilson to carve out a role for himself.

While I'd like to have seen them in a more established spot at the position, at some point you have to see what you've got in the players you've drafted. For me it's less about the cost of acquiring and re-signing McLaurin than it's about whether McLaurin makes your run-orientated offense better to the point that you're willing to invest that much in draft and cap capital to get him, rather than using it to better another area of your club.

As much as I like McLaurin, I'm more concerned about what needs to be done if the OL doesn't start coming together this year. There's a reason OT/OG contracts have skyrocketed in recent years.

The Jets are a naturally perfect comparison with this QB, a good #1 WR, (hopefully) gifted RB, sketchy O-line, very good defense (supposedly) and an iffy coaching staff.

The Steelers are basically the Jets of last year. But the Jets, like Cleavland, are always the Jets. Usually in the lowest 3rd of the league and we are more often than not almost always middling.

Unless some serious extra magical chemistry and a LOT of healthy luck, we only improve a few positions and win an extra game in season and possibly one post season.

But with a real #2 WR everything increases by a leap. Add a Micah Parsons into this convo and I think we contend for championship. Despite the coaching staff.

Yeah, Austin is #2 WR, just like Mason Rudolph was the #1 QB a month ago. Who else you Got?

The bad news is, from what people are saying there is a huge distance from the #2 WR Austin, and the rest of the receivers. It was funny, they are saying Roman Wilson right now is just playing terrible and Robert Woods is not looking much better; if the season were to start today Scotty Miller would be the Steelers starting slot WR..... Sure glad we got a 2026 3rd round pick for George Pickens, so we can see Scotty Miller in the starting line-up... Thanks Khan.

It will never happen. The Commanders will not trade him with a young Franchise QB and a team on the brink of competing. Makes no sense.

Bustamalu was a common name on the old board. Where are all those so called smart guys now that knew everything??? Hell the ones that said it wouldn't admit it Today.

You might be a great NFL Negotiator maybe. :)
All points seem very good. I haven't done those types of negotiations, but I am told I am one of shrewdest car buyers in the world.
There is an "Art of the Deal" involved and I've seen some great dealing and some of the worst ever.
We operate much the same as the Green Bay Packers and I would say almost the same results of late.
Neither team understands that next level when you need to add that piece to get you over the top.

I don't feel like Scary Terry is the piece that would do that. I would love to have him.
I think an exceptional draft in 2026, a really good Free Agency shopping spree and then maybe.
