Pouncey A HOF'r?

Having a real hard time with this. After all, it's not the Hall of the Very Good. Pouncey was good but overrated for a significant stretch of his career.

(Brees and Larry Fitz are locks.

 

Not to take away from your original question, but surprised to see Edelman on there.

 

Am I just getting old or is this quite a weak group?

I think these guys have a real shot this year.

 

Can't say I'd agree that Pouncey was overrated... He was a PB player in every year that he was healthy (missed the entire 2015 season and all but one game in 2013). Was a 5 time All Pro (2x first team, 3x second team). I'd say he is a HOF player. He's not a first ballot (hard for a C anyways). He didn't play super late into his 30's which idk if that hurts... but he belongs there imo.

 

Frank Gore is probably the most deserving of all those players. Dude was under the radar, but posted some monster stats. Fitz is a lock... Brees, meh.

 

Next year: Ben Roethlisberger

I think Brees too...but agree on Gore.

 

That ain’t happening. Pouncey will eventually get there but I’d say it will take 5 years or maybe more. Ben should be a first ballot HOFer but those early skeletons in his closet will make some voters shy away from him.

 

Brees, Fitzgerald and Witten for sure.

 

Pouncey won't get in on the First Ballot. He will take some time. I don't think he and Big Ben will be going in together either. 2026 Class, at least in terms of candidates, is loaded.

 

Hopefully Ben will get in next year on first ballot. Because if he doesn't get in next year.... all spotlight will be on Tom Brady in 2027 and Ben will have to wait until '28 and beyond. Don't see them taking 2 QBs in the same class.

 

He will get in 1st shot.

 

Fitzgerald was great. And if not for a spot on pass from Ben to Holmes he'd have a ring with a 9-7 regular season record team. They got hot in Playoffs.

I've been in 3 huge Steeler man caves and each one had the picture of that catch on their wall.

He used to be a slimeball but I think marriage and having kids has changed him for the better. I heard him speak in church last year and he really seemed sincere of turning his life over to God. I know when I think back about the things I did and said back when I was in my twenties I'm embarrassed about how I acted then.

I honestly dont see Big Ben getting in on the first shot myself. Remember that voters like Peter King didnt even vote for Troy Polamalu even though Troy is widely reputed to be among the greatest ever at the Strong Safety position. Troy thankfully got in but the fact that others didnt even cast their vote is nuts.


Regarding Big Ben though?! He isnt eligible until 2027 anyways. For that matter, Adrian Peterson, Rob Gronkowski and Richard Sherman await, all three of which have as much of First Ballot locks as anyone else. Technically speaking AB is eligible as well but he isnt getting in for a long time. This isnt including the likes of holdovers from 2026 or even 2025 either; Luke Kuechly, Eli Manning, Terrell Suggs and others no less.



One final caveat. The HOF Selection Process is now down to four players as opposed to five.
