I don’t remember that, but if I had pirate tickets I’d gladly exchange them for a loaf of Town Talk.

Seeing how I was a very young boy, beer held no interest for me. My first beer at a Pirate game was at PNC.

I lived in Shadyside and we would walk to the games as kids. When I got older and went back to visit the Burgh I was shocked at just how long that walk was. We drove and checked the odometer and it was about 5 miles. No damn way I'm walking that now. My little golf course is about a 3 mile walk but benches at every hole and I'm resting a lot.

Yeah, my Aunt would have 3 of us in tow riding city bus from Dravosburg down into Pittsburgh.
    Good times

When I go back home and look at the distances I used to walk, I am amazed

I'm certain the expression "I had to walk uphill to school - both ways" came from a kid growing up in Pittsburgh. When I was back as an adult, I was out of breath DRIVING up some of those hills over in Castle Shannon that I used to walk every day and sometimes twice for Scouts and Little League.

Must have been the aroma of beer farts from pre-game visitors to Gustines. Funny, cigars galore back then but no beer and now plenty o beer but no cigars (at least in LA).

Apparently this past weekend was the Buc players' response to the Adam Frazier trade and getting ready for the house cleaning party over the next 2 weeks. :lolol:

I keep checking my phone to see who they have moved. Nobody since Frazier. I think the guys on expiring contracts will be swapped for minor leaguers, but because another team is only trading for half a season of Pham, Heaney, Canario, etc. the yield will not be much. More interesting will be the roster spots opened up by moving those guys, and presumably our first look at Ashcraft, Davanney, etc.
Peguero is up with the Pirates and if he does not hit I bet he will be DFAed.
A Keller trade may or may not happen before the deadline, though it seems to be all that people talk about. I would not be surprised if they held on to him until the winter meetings.
Edit: Meant Chandler, not Ashcraft, who is already up. They might try him in the rotation when a slot opens, though.

Paul Skenes gets a win. MLB channel is free the week after ASG. Probably only win I'll see. I thought he was going into shock when they got him 3 runs early;)

Is it possible that the Pirates lose 110 games, yet have a SP with an era under 2?
Skenes would easily win 20 games a season with another team!
    Damn you Tomlin!

This frigging team. Chance to sweep the Tigers. We seem to like to sweep the better teams.

I think I Costanza'd them when @ steel machine asked how many they'll lose this year and I suggested ALL of the remaining games after the ChiSox sweep. They're doing just the opposite now with a 6-0 lead in the 4th with Horwitz knocking the cowhide off the ball this week (grand slam today) and now Falter pitching like Koufax.

Told a friend the Pirates make no sense. I got a kick out of what he said to that, "Even the 62 Mets won 40 games".

I remember the expression of the day back then was "What's a Met?" My Sister dated one of the first Met players (out of Pittsburgh org) Larry Elliot.

The baseball Gods were smiling this week on Don Kelly, former Tigers player and coach. :smiley1: Obviously the new Pope wasn't doing the same this past weekend.

I believe that after the weekend sweep by the Pale Hose the Bucs dropped overall under .500 for first time in a century but now are back above that. This will now forever be the Litmus Test for this now sorry franchise.

Get swept by the worst team in baseball. Sweep the best team in baseball. There's just nothing you can say about this team

Another long-standing record matched by Pirates this season:

"The Pirates' recent performances have made history not seen in the last 45 years:

The Pirates are the first team to be swept by a team with the worst record in a league & sweep a team with the best record in a league in consecutive series of 3+ games, in either order, min 80g into a season, since:

1980 SD: swept top NL team LA (7/12-14), swept by worst NL team STL (7/15-17)"

Hot/cold, cold/hot. Is maybe M.Tomlin a silent owner of the Bucs, sort of like Bing Crosby once was? Average is the norm is the standard?
