They went head-to-head last month in the Madden '13 cover competition. Here are the results:

    Not even close.

Yet, miraculously, Martin is in the HOF, all nice and cozy, and Bettis is sitting it out another year. Unbelievable.

Comparing Madden cover votes to HoF votes is apples to oranges. No doubt Bettis will get in.

He is handicapped by wearing the Black and Gold, for the majority of his career.
And the amount of Black and Gold, already in the Hall...
That is the ONLY reason I can see, why he wouldn`t have made it first ballot.
Hines will have to face this too, someday...
Dawson, already has felt that prejudice, along with plenty of others.
How long did it take for Stallworth to get in?
    Is Webster?
They(the voting committee) can say they don`t take that into account, all they want, but I ain`t buyin it...
Because we already have so many players in there, they don`t want to have "the Steelers Wing", that Franco, alluded to, in Canton, OH...
Even tho they kinda already do.. that`s the problem...
If they keep adding members of our team, from the 90`s and beyond, in addition to the head start we had in the 70`s...
Our percentage of players, compared to other teams, would be ridiculous, and they just don`t wanna make it look like 30 percent of the players in the Hall of Fame, came from one team.
Hell, we might even have had a H.O.F`er in the 80`s, if we sucked as bad as Cleveland does.. Just to get us "represented"... Not sure who... Maybe Thigpen, O`Donnell, Kordell(for being the first "running qb/ slash "triple threat"), or , SOMEONE, I dunno, kinda blocked those days outta my memory, because we weren`t in the playoffs every year, but I`m sure we had a few good players I am forgetting right now, back then...
I dunno, right now, I am just ranting, because this is one of my "pet peeves"...
We have a lotta players from back in the day, that deserve it, but never made it, let alone the classes from the 90`s on out...
    GRRR...:butcher:
It`s like the odds are automatically stacked against you, if you played for our team, because so many of us have made it before... That`s bull:bscow:!!!
    Now, an interesting question is,
How will free agency, change that?
Will players that play for a multitude of teams have a better chance at the Hall, because they have proved their worth, on multiple teams?
Willl a player who stays on one or two teams their whole career help, or hurt their case for being a Hall of Fame player, if the teams they are on, aren`t championship contenders?
    I don`t know.
I just Know Heath Miller should already be considered a lock for the Hall, based on what he has done for us, and the way he plays the game, but his stats, may not show that, and the fact that he is a Steeler, I believe does make it harder for him to get in.:darkness:
    O.k., Rant over...
But, there is no way in hell, that Jerome doesn`t belong in the hall of Fame, just based on the fact that defenses KNEW he was gonna run right at them, and still couldn`t stop him!!!
Give credit to his line, for letting him get up to speed, but no one his size, had that speed, power, and ability to change direction BEHIND THE LINE, or in open field, if he didn`t choose to just run the defender over, that he did.
No reason in Hell, He shouldn`t have been a first round inductee!!!:mad::kemo::drinks::steelflag:

I don't want the bus to get on the cover of Madden because he will get injured.

And what?>>>>>>Won't be able to go bowling anymore?

I've said this many times before but no other Steelers player should go into the HOF until LC Greenwood gets in. It's a total injustice and he is only overlooked year in and year out due to the amount of Steelers in already from that era.

I know the voting is different...my point is this: it is called the Hall of FAME, right? To me, a player's stature, within and outside of the game, his public works and public persona, do play a part in it--and if not, they should. This is the main reason Lynn Swann finally got in.

The Madden cover contest simply illustrates what has peeved me all along (and always will): Bettis is by far the more recognizable player, the more robust personality, the one who has added something to the sport off the field...Martin? Eh, not so much. Their numbers were very close, but their stature is NOT.

I know I'm being a whiny B over this, guys, but I need to vent. Still. LOL

Rod Woodson and Dermonti Dawson were both drafted in the 80's and in the HOF. other than that, they had no one really worthy of even a sniff.
