I remember when FA was relatively new and he jumped to the Astro's for a big contract (then) and was making 400 grand a year. Sam Nover looked at the screen and blurted out something like, 'some stolen bases, a .240 BA and a pop gun arm?!!!, you got to be kidding me" lol

It was more than “some stolen bases” he had almost 100 one year

So take half of his and count them as doubles

    Most of those became runs

And he could cover half of the outfield

Im a little biased in that I didn’t like Sam Nover he was the equivalent of click bait in the day

I am not a fan of Omar but the organization is, so there's nothing left to do but make the best of it.
I do recognize that 2026 is set up with 12 picks and this could be a catapult out of mediocrity for him.
I do hope that works out very well.

One thing of note for myself; Tomlins contract runs out a year before Omar's.
I don't think Tomlin will renew, even if he were to win 2 Super Bowls in the next 2-years.
Omar will have his skills on full display when the search for the next Head Coach comes up.
Will he just take the easy way out and promote someone like Austin to Head Coach?
Or mine out potential from the competition?
He has a 2-year jump start.

    * He's not solely in charge of this decision, but he's the point man.

Yes, it is going to be a 2-year process. I don't see Tomlin renewing after 2027.

he is a stubborn man, he just might stay until he dies.

I did not think he would renew the last time around

if Rooney is DUMB enough to pay him, Tomlin is smart enough to continue to GET RICH

    I can't say about "stubborn"
I guess if we go up a few rungs on the ladder to take a higher altitude view:
    - He has incorporated zero changes to the Defense. *Noting that it is decent but a little bit on the stagnate side.
    - I don't think he holds his staff accountable enough. If their unit fails, I'm not really seeing adjustments the next week (He might be yelling at his staff - that's something we should never know as fans anyway. But something should change the following week.)
    - He does have that resume with 'no losing seasons' and I know you discount that a lot, but it is big and recognized across the NFL. So what he does, is win. But like you, I do want to see the next level and at least survive the first round with some sort of chance to go to the big show.

Stubborn, fixed in his ways... it's just a label to me. Al Davis said it best: "Just win, Baby."

When I say this ,remember I've only watched the Steelers with 3 HCs, but I never remember us promoting one from the inside for HC position.

    Absolutely true.
I would hope that he has no intention of changing that. :)

It's not prudent to talk about MT at this time, the calls for his firing etc. will come soon enough, lol. Who really knows what he is thinking, but at some point every guy gets tired and its time to move on, the 'all in' stuff seems like MT is getting ready for that, will he? But yes you are correct, there were insiders interviewed (at least when Noll and Cowher left), but they went in another direction.

There is a lot of questions still on Khans drafts these tackles need to pan out and both of them are huge ???

Also he hasn’t drafted a QB which if he doesn’t pick the right one in the next year or two well….

Not only have the Steelers never promoted from inside in their entire history, expect this trend of not promoting to continue. There isnt a qualified candidate on the Steelers Coaching Staff currently that would possees Head Coaching ability. If they were on the staff, they would have been gone already.

More than likely, me, @Steel_Elvis@Steel_Elvis, @KnoxVegasSteel@KnoxVegasSteel and @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace will all hopefully get our collective wish; a young Offensive Minded Coach. Hope springs eternal of course here. Pittsburgh hasnt had an Offensive Minded Head Coach since Bill Austin from 1966 to 1968. That said, the NFL is changing.

It is up to the Rooneys to change along with it. Given the TJ Watt fiasco however, I am not too sure they can.

I think that Omar has earned this 'attaboy'. His drafts have been pretty good so far. His FA acquisitions have at least been decent backups. Just my opinion, but I think he has this team going in the right direction.
