Well, the Pirates won but continued their pattern of no run support for Skenes, who pitched strongly. Five in a row. Keller goes this afternoon. A sweep ofvthe Cardinals would be nice.
I have given up on reading sports stuff online. The problem is that anyone can anoint themselves a reporter, and start cranking out the b.s. I keep seeing proposed trades involving Skenes, and there is really no story. They just write about trading to get Skenes, with no other side to the trade, with their team giving up nothing and the Pirates somehow just giving them Skenes I guess. It is ridiculous.

Time to trade Hayes while he is hot. BC will wait too long.
Cards off b2b shutout losses and now a favorite today. Usually a good spot to play a team.Twins also in same spot today.

Plus their ace is going. Sonny Gray. We got Keller so I'm expecting a tight low scoring affair.

Funny, Bucs look good for a moment (and it will be a short moment) and a few new people are joining this thread.

Holding the Cards to 25 scoreless innings so far? Hope this doesn't jinx them. Santana is back from his 3 game suspension looks like Maybe he goes 2 innings? Bednar was in last night and it almost got away from them in the 9th. This is our post-season right now - 3 months early. ;)

Skenes has the worst luck… basically has to pitch a no hitter to get a win at this point

He always makes it nervously interesting but has done well score-wise and save-wise since his return from the minors. No jinx please.:beg:

Raise it..................pending. OK raise it fellas. 31 scoreless pitched innings in last 4 games. At this pace they might trade the entire team this month.

9 game road trip against 3 very beatable teams - Mariners, Twins and Royals. However Bucs currently have close to the worst road record in MLB. Hopefully this changes as well. If they keep up this wild undefeated ride - just think, they would only be 3 games under .500 heading into the AS break. Then 3 at home with the White Sox. Who knows? Then back to earth with 3 against Tigers at home. Payback?

Sooooo, I've been highly critical of the Bucs. I'm thrilled to see them playing well right now after some seriously dreary baseball. I still think they should have a yard sale and fire Cherington, BUT, I will always be happy when they play well and win against anybody...especially the Mets (who I despise). I've long respected the Cardinals organization, as well as the Braves, who are usually in the upper echelon of competitive teams. And that is all I want for the Pirates - to be a consistent playoff contender.

I know they can never compete (financially) with the likes of the Dodgers, Phillies, Giants, Padres, and Cubs, but if they field competitive teams, anything can happen! Those big money teams usually fall back to earth for 3-5 years before they reload (Dodgers being the exception I suppose) and that's when you can squeeze out a championship, but only if you're competitive enough to be in the dance.

    Go Bucs!!

It's amazing a team with a pitching staff like that stands at 12 games under .500. If jagoff Nutting just spent a little on a few hitters we'd be pretty damn decent.

Kelly has them playing decent but I know jagoff is probably going to do his annual salary dump.

Bucs won 2 of 3 in Sleepy Seattle in August 2024. So there's some hope? Glad MLB gave them a day+ of travel/rest vs the typical travel overnight 3500 miles and play the next day. These schedules are so screwed up anymore as they try to weave in all the inner-league games. Used to be they would hit all the West Coast teams the same trip - not anymore. Too bad they don't get to play at the Pony League field in Sacramento CA to play the Athletics this year, it's at PNC instead.
