    my concern is running the ball on 3rd down from 4-7 yards, 8-10 yards and 11+ yards. why? throw the stinkin football. odds would seem far better. same problem i have with them getting all cute down at the goal line. run the dagone ball. quit trying to fake them out. it never works. :cool:

    I was only posting the rush stats for the 2024 season. 6 rushes total for him for the down and distances you show concern for, over the course of that entire season. And it was successful 50% of the time for a first down. 2 of his 3 rushes at 3rd and 11+ went for 10yards or more, even though only one resulted in a first down. I don't know the success rate for passing with the same down and distances, but I would wager there are a lot more attempts involved.

    I think....Warren will be RB1 unless KJ really shows something special in TC. Gainwell is a very solid backup RB, IMO, but not the feature RB. I also think all 3 will get 3rd down snaps. How those get divided, I have no idea.

    Those 3rd down snaps get divided by situational football

    We don't have the horses on the O line to just run at the other team. If we have first and goal on the one and just run it 3 times we will be kicking a FG on fourth down from the 5 yard line.

    I can remember plenty of times people I was watching with screaming for Tomlin to leave him in. Fumbles can be a b!tych but when he is in the zone he can rumble. Johnson I have no idea about but I'm optimistic. All I watched were his highlights. Hey, at least he will be in the same colors as College;)

    We shall see is all I can say. I hope He does well, but nothing I've seen so far in his career has shown me that they have a great deal of trust in him.

    Very good point, I still have a hard time why our OL can not run block until about the the 12th game of the season
    even though they have gone thu OTA's, Training camp, Preseason games. Can't happen poor OL coach.

    Further context;

    Warren: 4 of those 3rd down rushes were against the NY teams. On the season for Warren, avg yds to go on third down was 6 yds, he gained 5.8 yds.

    Also for reference, Harris had 9 third down rushes and also had a ~50% first down rate; On the season for Harris Avg yds to go on third down was 1.8 yds, he gained an avg 2.8 yds.

    So clearly they favored Warren over Harris on the longer third downs.

    last year a lot of that had to do with rookies thrown to the wolves and injuries. had daniels not have gone down and seumalo not having been fighting through an injury most of the year and herbig as well it could have looked much different. fautanu as well. makes a big difference losing vets like that and then having to scramble. the year before was canada. i'll wait to pass judgement on meyer until i see this group play together. fraizer and mccormick should look much better and seumalo should be healed up. that would/should seal up the interior a bit. :cool:

    Warren gets labeled a 3rd down back but most of his carries came on first and second down.

    It makes sense they’d go to a bigger back for short yardage situations.

    That tend to happen when the other back gets twice the touches, people automatically label the next guy as the 3rd down back, right, or wrongly. We shall see how they use him this year. However they do it, I wish him success.
