Rumors are swirling they are about to close a deal for him.

And he’s followed several team members including Cam.

Don’t know who this insider is and doesn’t specify which team but taken in conjuncture with him following some Steelers, this might have some teeth to it.

Bringing Ramsey to Pittsburgh?! I mean.. fair enough but where are they gonna put him?! He has discussed the idea of moving to Safety during the past couple of seasons.

Moreover to the point, what will the compensation be?! He is still a Top 10 Corner so he isnt gonna come cheap though definitley not for a First.

Is he really still a Top 10 corner? I’ve thought of him as a guy who crested the hill a couple of years ago and is headed down the other side.

Tough call. I still think of him as solid, but don't see much of the Dolphins, nor do any friend/fam. My uncle is a fan of the Rams and closes the place down going on about his teams at family gatherings, so I felt closer to him when there.

Referencing PFR and their Approximate Value metric turned up the following:

Ramsey: career 17-game average AV: 12.. Last three years: 8, 7, 8....(10 gm)
    Porter, Jr...............career average AV: 5............Last three: n/a, 4, 6..(16 gm)
    Slay.....................career average AV: 8............Last three: 8, 6, 6....(12, 14 gm)
    Jackson................career average AV: 6.............Last three: 4, 5, 6....(9, 16, 15 gm)

Oh Hell no! A 3rd at most. And would be bringing along some major salary signed a deal through 2029!

Again the shortcomings of the corner position and wide receiver are still present.

I'd bring him on, and I wouldn't worry where to put him, all that stuff will work itself out. Plus we play enough packages we can get all of them out there.

    I heard mid rd.

I’ve heard talk about him moving to safety as well. I definitely approve of trying to bring him onboard. Like @S.T.D@S.T.D said, where to play him will work itself out.

    I see.

Mid round would be reasonable. Marshon Lattimore went for lower than I thought despite the injuries.

I’m fine with bringing in Ramsey. We need all the secondary help we can get, considering how many great QBs are in the AFC. Whether he plays at CB or S, he upgrades the defense.

But, what in holy hell are they doing at WR?! Im in utter disbelief that we are once again ignoring WR2. Especially, after getting AR. It was unacceptable that they never replaced DJ last season & rolled with CAIII at WR2. I like Austin. But, he is NOT a WR2. Neither is Roman Wilson. Im not even convinced he’ll see the field or stay healthy enough to contribute.

So, how do you double down on this nonsense & do it again this year?! Just sit idly by as FA after FA came off the board. Sure, they tried to lowball some teams on trades but they weren’t even taken seriously. And, here we sit, yet again, 3 months after the draft & still no WR2.

If it was pre-2000 or so that wouldn’t be a huge deal. But, the game now is dominated by offense & more specifically, the passing game. And, we still want to neglect such an important position & just throw whoever out there with DK.

I love what OK has done in drafts & I like some of his other moves. But, if we don’t address this & we go into yet another season with a MAC level WR corps, I’ll be officially out on OK. It amazes me that they’re so flippant regarding this.

Admittedly, I’m in the minority on this, but, I think with AR we have enough to make a serious run if he has good enough weapons surrounding him. I realize he’s not 2012 or even 2019 AR. But, we don’t need that to win. With the defense we have & what should be a solid ground game, all we need is an accurate QB who can manage games.

Even with a shaky OL, I like AR here bc of his ability to get rid of the ball so quickly. That will mask a lot of OL warts. And, FTR I don’t expect a DOMINANT defense, necessarily. But, they will be good enough to win big with a solid, efficient offense, IMO.

It’s just maddening having to go thru this for 2 straight years. Like, what am I missing? Is it not incompetence to neglect such an important position for 2 years? Why even make the move for AR if you have no intentions of seriously trying to win?!

Bc our current WR corps just isn’t gonna get it done. I’m not saying WR2=championship. But, I think with a legit WR2 we can play deep into January & a SB isn’t off the table. Assuming AR stays healthy.

I know there’s still time & maybe they’ll go get Amari Cooper or another competent WR. But, after last offseason, I’m not so sure I can trust OK to do the right thing. All I’m saying is that by signing AR it gives the impression that they are trying to win now. So, if that’s the plan, then go all in. Stop half-assing it & either go all in or tear it down & rebuild.

If he is still a top 10 cornerback, the league is suffering through a severe dearth of quality cornerbacks. Ramsey's level of play has dropped off considerably. I don't want the Steelers taking on that contract, much less giving up draft capital for him.

    Welcome aboard.

I agree with your thoughts regarding the secondary - it's hard to have too much in the current game. We'll see how these rumors pan out.

Regarding the WR situation, I empathize with the frustration, but disagree with the negative outlook on Wilson. I think he could be a productive NFL receiver, and complements what you get out of Metcalf. That said, I don't oppose picking up another solid option before the start of the season as a safety net.

It's more reasonable without the signing bonus. The option years stack up, but they can opt to release him within the first couple of years to cease the accumulation and designate him a post-June 1st cut to split the dead money hit if they so chose.

Another over the hill guy? What are the steelers thinking? I’m surprised they haven't signed Martavis Bryant.

this coach is going through the motions (imo) and hoping some veteran experience will get him that playoff win. I hope he asks for a buyout after this year

Thank you for the kind welcome & polite disagreement. I really hope you’re right about Wilson. Believe me, I WANT to be wrong. I hope he makes a fool of me. But, his size & fragility worry me. It’s troublesome for me that he couldn’t stay healthy & get any in-game experience.

Hopefully, he can bounce back like CAIII did. But, IMO, even if he looks great in camp, there’s no way you can trust him to play a full season yet, at this point & not sign a proven commodity. Missing all of last season is even more reason to bring Wilson along slowly, IMO.

I think I’d be more open to Wilson if CAIII was a little bigger or Woods was a little younger. Like I said, they give the impression that they want to win now by signing AR & trading for Ramsey would only solidify that theory. It’s just really puzzling to me why they’d do all that & then totally ignore WR2.

PS-for a quick introduction to the board, I’m a 52 year old guy from KY. I’ve been a Steelers fan since I was 5 years old. My grandfather was a die hard Cowboys fan & my family watched SBX at their house. I rooted for the Steelers just to annoy my grandfather. But, also, even at 5, I thought that’s what a football team is supposed to look like.

And, all the ensuing tv commercials & appearances quickly made me HUGE fans of Bradshaw, Greene, Swann, Franco, Stallworth, Bleier, Ham, Blount, Greenwood, etc. But, my all time favorite Steeler is still Jack Lambert. I actually went trick or treating as Dracula in cleats (literally) when I was 9.

I was so eaten up that I was making up lineups & plays for the Steelers for show & tell in kindergarten. Sports got me at a young age. The Steelers, UK (all sports), Atlanta Hawks (bc they were always on TBS) & Cincinnati Reds have been my teams since 78-79. I even liked the Pirates of the late 70s-early 80s. Loved the unis. Always liked Bill Madlock & Dave Parker, too.

Ramsey can play anywhere in the secondary at a high level, perhaps not elite, but he is still really good. If they make this trade I think Ramsey will fill the old Cam Sutton role (when Sutton was good) where he will start at outside corner and then move to slot corner on obvious passing downs, with Slay coming in to play outside across from JPJ

They are missing someone like that in the secondary, and also are only an injury away from Trice / Bishop starting.

If they get Ramsey and another WR I think that more or less completes the roster.

while i like porter, i wouldn't break the bank for him when his contract comes due. i don't think he is a number 1 corner. this is an area they need to upgrade. would have been nice to see ramsey, slay, jackson and porter all here. ramsey, slay, porter wouldn't be a bad thing for our young guys. minkah, thornhill, elliott, castro. pretty solid group and should be able to help the younger guys along. we have a nice group of young guys but we need all this vet presence to help improve them. echols and beanie and trice and kent as well as some others should benefit from these guys. i hope the PS is kept full of these young DB's this season for the future.

Ramsey can be a good addition at the right value.
I also don't think he's top 10 but still very good and I think a good example for Porter who I think will be very good in the long run.
This is something I keep an eye on Omar for.
Why is he pursuing a CB and not a WR?

Well, Our secondary is suspect and has been subject to giving up splash plays.
Ramsey provides some decent experience and might even excel in the Steeler scheme. (I don't think Austin is any sort of defensive guru, by Ramsey looks to fit what he does.)
All provided we get a good deal.

Madlock should be in the HOF. He won 4 batting titles, has a .305 career average and was a big part of the Pirates winning it all in 1979.
