I have been getting a lot of new traffic on my web feed from a company called Firefly Guitars. I have at least 2 friends that have recently purchased a Firefly Guitar and both seem very happy with them. Both are gigging musicians. One has a 'day job', while the other makes 100% of his income through playing music. I'm curious your thoughts on this brand. They are cheaper in price than the models they are knockoffs of. Too good to be true typically is. Just wondering what you guys/gals think.

Never touched one. I’ve read their quality control is crap as are the pickups. If everything else is copacetic swapping pickups isn’t a huge deal.

My one friend is totally in love with his Firefly. The other likes it fine but it's a backup.

I should maybe add this. I do not gig anymore. I'm thinking about getting one just to get a new guitar. But at the same time, I don't want to throw money away.

I've never played one, so I can't give you any opinions on it. Is there not a music store where You may try one out, or maybe try one if Your friends??
I can't buy a guitar without playing it 1st, but that's just me, because I know many people order theirs online without ever touching it .

I now live 50 minutes from my nearest Music store, but for many, many, many years I lived about 2 miles from a few of them, and I gave lessons at one of them.

I've gone to a FB group specifically for Firefly guitar enthusiasts. Most of them talk about buying the guitar, then having it set up with better pickups. Like I said before, I'm not gigging so the pickups won't mean that much. But this tells me one thing... they build higher quality bodies and necks but scrimp on the electronics so they can sell cheaper.

I agree with you that I must play the guitar before I can buy it.
I like the more middle of the road guitars when it comes to acoustic guitars. I've owned a few Yamaha, Alvarez, and lower end Fender. My wife has a Harmony acoustic she bought as a teenager that may be my favorite though.
When it comes to electric guitars I have always had expensive taste. I don't care about the shiny. I want the tone. I know how that sounds saying that. But it's true. The guitar and the amp must play well together.

You are the one playing it, so how You feel is all that matters my friend.
I have aways gone by playability. I can always tweak things here, or there, and Like You said change pickups, but I actually stopped changing pickups about 10 years ago, because I started liking the different sounds, and tones I could get from different guitar with different pickups, even the cheap pickups.
My Tradition electric is a 250 dollar used guitar, and it plays better than any guitar I have ever played.....the only thing I don't like is the body horn is cut too narrow, and gets in my way when I play higher than the 16 fret, but most guitars aggravate me on this. LoL

I posted an Eric Gayle's album in the songs thread. I knew him briefly when we were young. I was just starting to learn to play and Eric was a local legend at 12 years old. He was a bit younger than me. That guys timing and phrasing is amazing to me to this day. Lyrics are lacking for me but the playing is top shelf stuff. The live stuff is so much better because he starts improvising and you get to really see the player.

I will definitely check it out, I just haven't gotten to that part of the board yet. I'm way busy arguing. LoL

Might not be that easy. There’s one used firefly guitar within 20 miles of me. I know you said the closest store to you is 50 miles, but I live in the middle of a major metropolitan city

I’ve got a friend like that. He’s an outstanding frontman and a good guitarist.he knows how to captivate a crowd.with that being said he is a terrible lyricist. He loves these power words or phrases. He will repeat a word or a phrase over and over. Bar after bar. It’s really kind of sad because some of the ideas are interesting, but he can never flesh it out into a great song.

I've never played one, but I've heard quality on Firefly is hit or miss. But there has to be a reason they are more of a budget guitar.

Still, I have several, so I wouldn't be opposed to adding one to my collection to try it out.

Hmm. I can't say I've ever seen one. I just looked them up, and are they all just copies of other guitars???

    Yes.

I said yes, but that shouldn’t be so emphatic. I believe that’s all they do
