I've wondered more than once why Rodgers would step down to a $10-$15M level of salary, without just going vet minimum. Guy's already cashed $381M from his football career alone - he's had promotional deals with State Farm, Adidas, Fanatics, Taylor Made, to name a few.

I don't personally care that he's got a contract that could pay him $13-$19M - the Steelers have the cap room. It just doesn't make sense to say you don't care about the money, but still play for "10 M's" as he put it. Going all the way down to the minimum would've been more resounding if his intention was to show that he was only coming back for the love of the game and one more shot at a Super Bowl, and the extra $10-$15 M's is a drop in the bucket to what he's banked.

Instead, in typical Rodgers fashion, he's made it about himself in other ways - trolling the Jets and his release, reporters making stuff up, and speaking to the personal issues he was navigating. I don't recall hearing him say anything this offseason that spoke to his passion for playing, let alone for any of the potential franchises he was considering.

I'm sure he'll have a presser at some point soon; we'll see how that goes. In the meantime it's just another one of those Rodgers quirks.

Outstanding job by khan. You don't break the bank and a bunch of incentives that, if accomplished, will have the steelers offense rollin.

It's a status thing. By saying it's not about the money he can spin the narrative that he is humble and it's all about winning and getting back to the Superbowl. However the reality is he doesn't want to look like a broken down, aging QB who gets the league minimum and looks like he doesn't know when to hang up his cleats. It's not about the money but he is still Aaron freaking Rodgers and he gets 20 million a year.

It's like his draft year still. Ben's draft year he is stranded in the green room for hours until the Steelers picked him. No thought to how awkward it was showing him alone in there. Following year Rodgers goes almost the whole first round without being selected and the get him a hotel room so they dont have to show him being snubbed team after team. It's like he wants everyone to know he is the 20 million QB in the room now.

it's a visual game which boils down to money. just like the NFL was taking a hit when the players were kneeling. people were saying they were not honoring the troops that had given so much for the flag. the NFL was losing money because of it. the following year we started seeing the NFL honoring troops before and during games and made sure even the fans at home saw that.

bud light with their DEI hire which cost them tons of money started back tracking and showing people out in their 4 wheel drives drinking the beer again. visual.

how many people want to pay premium prices as the NFL has done for certain matchup games when your QB would be mason rudolph against lemar jackson or joe burrow? so to raise our bottom dollar we will give them an arron rodgers. we have to keep selling those tickets so we don't hurt our product. it's not about the steelers wanting to be the best team, it's about visuals and money making.

just like the rooney's said we will never charge a seating license to our season ticket holders. well that lasted a year or two and then we paid for a seating license. then the games we purchased used to be one price no matter who we were playing, then it became you pay more for different matchups.

just like the nfl putting different games on TV and flexing games to get the absolute highest viewer rating. follow the money holds true and don't think it doesn't.

When they say it’s not about the money then it’s about the money. No freaking way were we getting Aaron Rodgers for league minimum. It’s still not breaking the bank though so I can live with it.

A curious off-season question: How come you capitalize abbreviations like NFL (sometimes you don't), QB, and TV, but not beginning of sentences and proper names? I am not trying to take @Formerscribe@Formerscribe's job, just curious.

And we should not heap praise on Omar for this signing.
The deal is good but better than other offers who did want to pay less.
That was a signing done back when he was here..

I don't think $20M is a drop in the bucket for anyone, even Rodgers. Plus, at 41 years old, why would someone play for 10% of what you could earn while taking the risk of being maimed for the rest of your life? Whatever Rodger's narrative is, it is still about money, IMO.

*losing. Loosing is making something less tight. Losing is not winning.

Maybe the typo was a purposeful ironic twist?

Credit our management. We must have said: This is what we are willing to pay, take it or leave it.

I hope Rodgers is not the cancer I think he is.

I'm not necessarily saying he should've played for vet minimum - I'm one of the biggest advocates for the players getting their fare share of NFL revenue. I'm just saying if you're going to try and paint yourself as not caring about the money - in addition to using the phrase '$10M's, which isn't exactly the parlance used by the majority of NFL fans - then show it's not about the money.

It was obviously a posturing move by Rodgers to cast himself in a beneficent light. It just fell flat with me.

Mason Rudolph would be a snooz fest. AR will at least be a circus.

To be honest, I am very happy someone can throw over the middle of the field.

I am hoping Friermuth and Wilson, and Calvin show up a bit to open up DK deep.

This is a good time for the very opportunistic rainbow.

well he's here now so the speculation can end. I guess we will find out if all the drama hyping up his craziness has any merit or not.

Watch him light up the scoreboard.

Also call me crazy, but I think this defense has a lot of potential to be great. This will help!

I get it. Rodgers has a long history of only looking out for numero uno.
