I took it to mean next season but yeah, hes not getting on the field this season unless one of those three things happen.

It's the reason I kinda didn't want Rodgers to sign, because I wanted to see Mason, and Howard have a real competition. Now all that goes away.

show me any QB that doesn't rely on the 10 other guys on the field. he's no different. not too many rookies come into the NFL and light it up as a QB. it's about smarts, how you approach learning the pro game and what you do with the opportunity. can you be taught. will you work to get better. most guys are the best of the best no matter draft status. that doesn't guarantee the end result.

The point is the same this season as it is every season. Put the best team on the field we can for THIS season. Next season will take care of itself when it gets here.

With respect to the SD Crew, they are only reporting what insiders say; not themselves. The article itself contains concerns about being too optimistic. That said, it is never a bad thing to at least hear some progress from a player.

Like a certain ex Steeler QB in Cleveland who is throwing picks all over the place against a defense wearing T shirts and shorts and aren't allowed to rush the passer.

well since this one year at a time theme has been so successful so far why not? i fully disagree born. no use signing anyone, just make a team out of the draft and free agency every year. that is exactly how guy like TJ go their whole career without winning a playoff game.

How else do you make a team except from the draft and FA?

Keep in mind that a News Organization would need to have connections to make such assumptions in the first place. ESPN, Fox Sports, CBS Sports, NBC Football and others all do have some form of inside info on all 32 teams. Now, in terms of how valid is a fair critique. That said, if such rumors continue to surface, they sure as hell are not coming out of nowhere.

I do agree that Will Howard should be judged more based on both his Training Camp and Preseason Performances. I however, also agree that Will taking those good steps forward so early in the process will aid him by the time Training Camp arrives. Not to say he will light it up but he could be in better standing than others are willing to give him credit for.

i meant 1 year deals there is no cohesion that way. rest of the team trying to always learn new players. especially important positions. it also makes it tough on coaches or coordinators.

I understand the context of what you're saying now. It's frustrating because the most important position is QB. You need continuity and consistency from that position. To keep bringing in QBs on 1-year deals is not how to build that.

We could have offered Russ and kept some continuity. He said he wanted to come back to the Steelers. He signed with the giants for about the same as we signed Rodgers. Would that have been better? Idk.

at this point more than one and not necessarily rodgers. i don't think his dedication to this year or team is there. by next season we are back to square one. similar to the WR debacle we saw last year. i do think it will influence other signings as well. TJ for example. just to win one playoff game is as bad as saying tomlin wants to just keep the winning record in tact. it also reminds me of last year with russell and fields. now we are in this mess. i get that he may be the best on paper but we don't know that. i'm old too and in my mind i can still do the stuff i used to do, but in reality my body tells me no you can't.

as i said to jeh, the old guy thing is fine if it's a charlie batch situation. i believe you have to go with youth to find what we need. i don't know of any recycled qb's that are going to get you to the promise land. you have to keep trying to find the next one though. you build the team around them just like you are trying to build the contender with the old guy. you can do it i believe with guys like rudolph that have enough time in this league to teach a younger QB the ropes under the guy that can coach them the best. let arth do what we hired him to do.

to me we might as well have kept ben if one playoff win is the goal. we are living in our fears if we keep reverting to this method. charlie batch helped ben i do believe, charlie wasn't a great starter. i think mason could have done the same by mid season or so with howard. now we keep delaying it by years. even for the next draft pick while the rest of the team suffers because of it. as i told jeh, i am old and still think in my mind i can do the same things i used to do but my body reminds me i can't. i think that's where we are with rodgers at this point.

i see this as mason and howard will give there all up to this point and am not sure that is what rodgers will do at this point in his career. i also believe this is art2 trying to draw fans to keep buying tickets. rodgers will be more of a draw in theory than mason or howard just to fill seats and pay for those premium tickets during the year. it's about the money and the look. it's always about the money.

don't think howard isn't watching this all go down. this coach and owner has slapped rudolph in the face again. howard to an extent too. with the talk of drafting a QB in the first round next year, and now bringing in rodgers for 1 year, what is howard to think watching this and thinking i'm going to be mason rudolph all over again.

I think when I first watched it that was the thing I liked most about his play. He moves the ball in quickly and tucks and turns quite fast for a big boy. He looks kinda slow to me but hey he is a tight end and a large tight end at that so that speed might be quite normal for a guy of his stature.
