Do you think mason should be our #1?

I have a feeling the Steelers passed on Shadeur because they know more about the Rodgers signing then we know.

 

They might not be better at all but Mike Tomlin isn't starting the season with Rudolph.

Well, I guess it is time for him to go to another team and get a ring too.
That would be the trifecta of 2022 drafted QBs on the Steelers to win a super bowl ring.

Basically yes, not because i think he’ll light it up, but because it could set us up to take a Qb in 26.

although i dont think MR will be bad, i think hell turn out to be serviceable if he is the starting Qb in week 1.

Rudolph is not one of the worst backups in the NFL. Now if the Steelers have to begin the season with him as the starter then you could say he would be one of the worst starters in the NFL but he is a capable backup. His career record including a playoff game is 9-9-1, that's what you want a backup to do. Come in and hold the fort until the starter comes back.

 

No idea how SI came up with those rankings.

MR went 1-4 in TN. However, 2 of those loses were against the Bills and the Lions (two of the best teams in the league), and the Colts game the defense gave up 335 yards rushing. That is 3 loses that would have required a Herculean effort by MR to overcome.

Meanwhile Gardner Minshew II went 2-7 with the Raiders. Similar stats compared to MR. But SI had him #14 on their list, compared to Mason at #26. Nothing in the article to argue why Gardner was so much higher, other than the author felt like it. Or maybe that he is a backup on a better team (Chiefs), but that has nothing to do with the quality of the backup QB.

Minshew does have a lot more starting experience with 46 career starts but even then his record isn't very good at 17-29. He's only had one winning season when he went 7-6 with the Colts in 2023.

He's not even close.
If I can think of a few teams that I'd rather have Mason than their starters, then it would be hard for anyone to be a bad backup, let alone the worst.
Right off the top of my head I'd take Mason over Indianapolis Richardson to win a game

 

All Howard needs is for the Steelers to commit to a 4 year window
