    Trade Rumors.

Is Washington really a receiving threat? He wasn't used much as a receiver at Georgia. Maybe it's his size and that he CAN catch a football, gives him the appearance of being some receiving mismatch. I don't know, but if needing a pass catcher to threaten defenses with, and Wash is a receiving threat fans seem to think he is, why would we trade him for an older guy that plays the same position? I think his receiving prowess may be all illusion. We will see.

What we know is Schefter reports there have been trade talks for Jonnu Smith. The 'report' about Washington even says speculates right there in the post. Not worth losing your minds over.

Hard to be a threat if No one looks your way. Again it's not a coincidence that as soon as they changed Qb his targets doubled.

    Well again....
    1st
His targets doubled as soon as they changed Qbs.
    2nd
He had 25 targets, and 19 catches, at 10.5 average a reception.
Looks to me he needs more targets.

He has good hands too, I can't remember him ever dropping a pass.

Year two jump. I doubt his ceiling is much higher than we saw last season.

I'm to freaking lazy to even look the guy up, but a video from the OTA's had another TE who looked almost as big as Washington. Think the reporter said he was an UDA. That itself says lttle and means nothing, except there is competition and if they feel they can upgrade in one area and have enough confidence in the depth, then can move a player for other assets. I like Washinton, but either he has not been used effectively, he cannot get open, or whatever you want to fill in...meaning to replace him and get a better O weapon is understandable.

Thinking that was Parham, Jr. He runs about 6'8"/245lb. Spent '24 on a practice squad.

Could very well be, and I'm not making any comments about his abilities, except if they are confident in the depth and person, it is conceivable to trade someone if they feel they can upgrade in another area.

He spent his first few years with the Chargers. I didn't see much of him, but remember he was a useful red zone target. I didn't have a problem bringing him in as a depth signing, especially with the way Smith uses 13-personnel.

Washington has gotten praise early this camp, hopefully you guys end up being right about him.

People always talk about potential, which I usually hate, but I see lots for him, and that's not even counting his blocking. I personally would like to see us run a two TE set always, and build off of that.

Smith uses it a lot but not that much. They were 12th in the league in 12 personnel last season. They even ran 13 personnel 16% of the time which I think was #2 in the league. And they were among the bottom in 11 personnel.

He used it more in Atlanta, maybe if Washington takes another step forward as a receiving threat, Smith will increase his usage of it.

Smith ran Jonnu out of the slot a good amount in Atlanta as well. He and Pitts would alternate in-line TE vs. slot snaps to give different looks. I think Jonnu had more as a receiver, not entirely sure.

I don't think it matters; reports are now saying the Steelers are unlikely to trade for him.

I like Washington. It'd be nice seeing him get more looks this year. I can't imagine a DB looking forward to that assignment.

If they scheme him open like that video clip, that play is indefensible. I don’t think he is going to wow anyone with his route running, just scheme him open. Like you said, no DB looking forward to that.

    Well, as the teeter totters:

Steelers Renew Talks with Fins TE Smith (ESPN)

"The Pittsburgh Steelers renewed conversations Tuesday with Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith, who is seeking a new contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The development brings new life to a possible trade between the Steelers and Dolphins after sources had told Schefter earlier Tuesday that a trade was not expected to be completed.

Sources also told Schefter earlier Tuesday that the team will host free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis on a visit this week. Davis was scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to visit with the Steelers on Thursday, the sources told Schefter."
