The other problem is, I just can't trust Tomlin and his staff to develop a young QB.

We had the opportunity to draft a QB like Jalen Hurts in 2020, and the Steelers would never have done as good a job as the Eagles did to develop him.Matt Canada would destroy all his confiance and it would been over for Hurts

 

I can’t trust MT to do anything at this point. After this season it will be 3 playoff wins in 14 years. Why would anyone trust him anymore???

In the first game this season the Steelers brass will have a lot of egg on their face if Fields balls out and the Jets win. If he plays terribly and the Steelers win then they will look pretty good for not signing him.

 

Interesting. I don't put any more weight on that game than I would most of the others. And only because the Jets are AFC would I give it any weight. Plus it's the first game.

 

I know it's only one game but this board and the local sports talk shows will blow up that week if Fields has 4 TD's in a Jets win.

 

Stop....just stop. Thats your fantasy......the reality is...6 games , and we wouldn't have won a single game if not for the Defense, because every single time they gave up over 16 points, we lost.
It's funny....as bad as Wilson was.... with him, we still won games the defense gave up over 30 points, and as with Fields, Wilson never lost a game that the Defense allowed under 16 points....That shows you how bad Fields is. He couldn't out play a old man

Yet Wilson also lost no games the Defense gave up under 16 points, and yet he also won games that the Defense gave up over 30, and Wilson was over the hill....that shows how bad Fields is.

Yeah,like I said,if Fields look good for the entire season with the Jets(It don't matter if he is good or not against us if he look good for the rest of the season),it will be a awful look for the steelers and also for the bears....If he look bad for most of the season,the steelers will look good

 

With Fields:4-2
with Wilson:6-5(0-1 in the playoffs)

And no forget Fields face strong defense in the first 3 games against Denver and chargers(2 top 5 defense) and the steelers were a penalties machine like crazy against Denver who cost 11 points in the first half and like 100 passing yards to Fields....And this is despite the Steelers being very conservative (too many runs in the middle with Harris which didn't work) and the Steelers not playing to Fields' strengths.

We saw when Wilson wasn't playing against crap defense like New York or the Bengals, it was painful to watch

 

That means, play with his legs way more....More read option, etc.

 

we will see in 8 month if it was the good decision by the steelers to bench him after 6 games....Fields had no reason to stay in Pittsburgh after being in the bench after a 4-2 start

 

Dude you can type all the could bes, maybes,and I think it could you want.....these are the facts.
Both Qbs won every game the Defense held the opposition to 16 points, and only one Qb won games when the defense couldn't, and that was Wilson. Those are the facts....the rest is fantastic thoughts you are guessing at. I prefer to live in reality.

 

I don't put stock on this useless stat since Fields only had 2 chances to do that....against the cowboys, the steelers were only 3 drives in the second half and they had 2 TDs...In the first half, the steelers were conservative like crazy

 

This is not the same culture that it was under Cowher

 

By that logic, they should have stuck with Pickett. He had to deal with the same restriction, the awfulness of Matt Canada, and a crappy center who kept getting botching snaps and getting shoved into the quarterback's lap.

(Before we get on this again, I'm not saying they should have stuck with Pickett. Given how cheaply they moved him, they clearly had given up on him as a potential long-term answer. Just pointing out that asking Fields not to turn the ball over doesn't excuse his lack of production.)

 

Guys like Fields are always going to look good in offseason workouts and practice. It is when speed up in a real game with a real opponent putting pressure on him that his struggles in reading defenses lead to bad things.

That said, this board will likely explode if Fields has a strong game to help the Jets beat the Steelers.

 

If fields has 4TDs in a game it will be because he ran for them. But Boz will kick 10FGs and we win 30-28!!!
