From what I can tell, some of the people griping about how we didn’t just keep him for one more year and get a 3rd round comp pick are the same people who griped about us not signing any big free agents this offseason.

A lot of fans don’t understand how comp picks work.

No, I don’t. Please stop trying to read my mind. You do it poorly.
I think he made it up and now he is trying to cover it up with bluster and lame insults. I know he is t talking about me unless he is lying even more blatantly.

I am certain that I saw at least one person (probably more) on this board post about Pickens being worth a 1st round pick in compensation before the draft.

Jeh could settle this easily. He claimed that he found the post, but refused to link it.

According to this report Pickens was late to several games last year, he was also late to meetings and practice. Yeah, it was time for him to go

He is making things up. There is nothing foolish about calling him on it. If he had the evidence, he would have posted it by now.

Also my previous post was meant to read that I know he isn’t talking about me being the one to say Pickens is worth a 1st round pick. I am posting from my phone today. Far more prone to typos.

There is no argument on how talented Pickens is. His maturity has always been the big question. As much as I would have really liked to see him with DK Metcalf this season it was going to be his last season with us. I don't doubt for a second Pickens was going after big money this season and would not remain a Steeler for that reason. I would give this trade a B/C grad just for getting value rather than nothing at all. The only way would have gotten a higher comp in return is he was signed past this season.

A diva and cancer is gone. He wasn't going to resign with us after this year anyway. Win. win. win. He's Dallas' problem now. Pickens.jpg

I got no beef with the trade. Yeah, maybe Pickens is worth than a 3-rd. A problem child with one yr left on his contract is not gonna fetch much

If the thought is: 2nd rounder trade him, 3rd rounder keep him, that is not unreasonable, but it is full of risk, keeping George meant quitting on plays, pouting, tantrums, I don’t think you get better behavior because he wants a new contract. Hell, he thinks he deserves it now! So they ditched him now, when the could.

Fans can dream about what might happen have been. Keep him a year, with Rodgers and Metcalf and make some noise! Sign him long term and once fully compensated, he’ll be the pro bowler we expect him to be! But I think those options are bad bets.

Probably mostly defense. Maybe Muth from the offense. Warren maybe, Pickens did let him get blown up.

I’m sure more stories will trickle out over the coming weeks. Some will say it’s the Steelers trying to save face yet the same process played out with DJ and then he proceeded to get thrown off three teams in a year. Don’t think the stories leaking out after DJ’s trade were Steelers trying to save face.

    The Trade.

It's just another bad memory, a story of amazing talent and no brains and inability to coach them. Please scout players better.
"They don't fit in" - No crap?
It's bad all the way around and anyway you look at it. We wasted and 2nd, got a 3rd that's no win.
    Should have never picked him.

I hate every aspect of it. He's gone, he's Dallas' problem... we wasted 3 years and and a 2nd rounder.
Could have traded down, maybe make a different pick.
I remember reading an article about Pickens issues at Georgia. Some thought if he could overcome those demons he could easily be the #1 WR in that 2022 class.
Maybe we need to hire a shrink as a special adviser to out scouting and GM's.

    It is over and done.

This makes perfect sense. It would have been fun seeing he and Metcalf lining up on opposite sides and stressing the defense, but as soon as the passes started going to the underneath receivers that were open because he was drawing safety help, he probably would have blown up anyway.

The trade looks better and better every day. As for the pick, I tend to agree, but at the same time if you pass on a guy who is a potential Top 5-10 talent at a premium position in the middle of the 2nd round and he turns into a star, you look like an idiot for passing on him. I saw the same articles on him at draft time, and if I recall there were no indications of off the field issues, so the 1 round drop was probably right in the range for “maturity” issues. There may have been a view that the Steelers’ environment and leadership could pull him along.

They should take my advice and hire a shrink to help them as it seems talent-wise they can manage but player mentality they have no grasp of.

Hmmm. I wonder if that annual players’ poll rating organizations has a “best psychiatrist” category. “Their workout facilities sucked compared to my college team’s facilities, but their shrink helped me work through my mommy issues….”

I don't even understand where that's coming from," Tomlin said in October 2022 when asked about Pickens' playing style deterring other teams in the predraft process. "This guy is doing everything that we ask him to. He's playing good ball. A lot of people have incidents in their college background. I'm certainly not going to hold that against him. We did our due diligence. We were completely comfortable with his character. He has displayed that since he's been here. So, I somewhat resent that."

    Good article.

If that quote from Tomlin is even remotely coming from the heart, he should be removed from the draft process completely, Khan should just give him some marbles and send him into the corner.

Warren should really be glad to see him go. Warren was running for a TD all he needed was a half assed block from Pickens to score. But Pickens gave no effort and just stood there and watched Warren get trucked short of the goal line. He said it was a "business decision". He should have been benched on the spot.
