IMG_0779.jpeg Me personally I give it an A. The reason being, the whole league knew what a headcase he is, and yet we found a team, the Cowgirls and they gave us a 3rd pick for him in next yrs draft. Shocking

    I give it a C.

I can understand some of the reasoning behind it for the behavioral issues. The timing is not good and it does not improve the team to be able to compete this year, given the current roster deficiency. The compensation is not great in my opinion. It is also not the worst trade ever made.

    I say it is a B personally.

Nabbing two picks (though one is essentially a pick swap) for 2026 could prove useful. Rather, that 3rd Round pick will be a very enticing chip to use in trade negotiations. That isn't accounting for the potential compensatory picks either.

Again though, my major critique is the reliance of Pat Meyer to essentially save the 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers. How well the Offense does now will hinge on the Offensive Line; Meyers department. For those of you who may not know what I am referencing, there are only two possibilities:

1.) The Steelers will feature a Top 10 Offensive Line Unit in the NFL, which in turn, will permit Mike Tomlin to have another winning season.

2.) The Offensive Line doesn't play to its vast potential and Mike Tomlin will incur his first losing season.

These two scenarios automatically include Aaron Rodgers and the great amount of depth overall (minus Slot CB) on Defense as well. This team will go as far as the Offensive Line can carry them. There are no other possibilities.

Do or die for both Meyer and Broderick Jones.

I gave it a C. Kinda think we could of gotten a higher return around the trade deadline. Plus, not drafting a ZWR left us in the same situation as this time last year, with not many in the market.

I gave it a C. Would have given it an A+ if Tomlin was sent in a package deal.

I gave it a 'B' because of the face value of it. But if you use a couple of picks to trade up in next year draft to pick up a franchise QB then it becomes an 'A'

Pickens gets to play for two historic organizations.
He could have been one of the greats.
    Why doesn't he understand this?

Yeah, I'm sure that was no secret. He was not going to be brought back, obviously. You got a higher pick than you would've with the comp pick. And he's somebody elses problem now. It must've been bad to give up the right to play him this year and still get back similar compensation, although a year later. I gave a B.

Anything higher than a D is pretty much copium at this point. I understand that the team is likely looking to improve the locker room (its been deteriorating for a few years now, and have had fairly public issues for two consecutive seasons), but Pickens was basically on a one year deal. We had all the power, and could just as easily bench him if he acted out, so anything out of line would be a huge detriment to his future payday... We traded for painfully low return when we held all the cards. Weird deal.

As for the return, it is nice to have Dallas' 3rd for trade up negotiations, but its probably only about 15 spots higher than the compensatory pick we would have gotten had he just finished the season like an adult. The pick swap 6th for a 5th is fairly meaningless since Dallas' pick should be in the latter half of the order, while ours should be in the first half of the order. Again, its basically a double pick swap moving up about 15-20 picks in both the 3rd and 6th rounds. Very little return for the talent that we shipped out. I likely wouldn't have done it without a 2nd rounder in return. A 2nd and pick swap our 4th for their 5th might've been something worth the deal.

Again, I understand that we're sending away a behavioral problem. But this problem was on a one year deal and is exceptionally talented. Personally, I believe that he was the best WR we had on our roster. I hate the return and feel like we botched a situation where we held all the power in. Had we made our mind up that we were sending him away pre-draft, then we bungled very hard by not adding a WR early in the draft. I would've been able to stomach this trade had we selected Egbuka in the first. Now, we are pretty much forced to make a different trade to bring in a WR or risk having the worst WR room in the league AGAIN.

It's an F for me, but can understand anything in the D or D+ range.

I give it a B. I don't understand why some think that it was a low return, or that a third round comp in 2027 was an automatic - it wasn't. Whether by injury, attitude, or performance (Metcalf wasn't just going to take away defenders), there's a very real chance that Pickens' departure in FA didn't even start at third round comp value, not to mention it would have handcuffed the FO in free agency next year in order to keep it. On top of that, they're obviously tying to load up on their draft capital for next year - whether to move up, re-stock on homegrown talent, or both.

That being said, I admire Pickens' talent. He's a lot of fun to watch when he's playing a WR and not king of the fall drama club. I would've preferred someone to have been able to reach him, but that's not always going to be the case. Hate that it's another high-round pick that we couldn't develop, forcing additional resources be spent to replace. The guy's got talent. But until (if at all) he can get his head straight he's never going to realize his full potential and be a pain in the ass to the rest of the team.

You can’t trade up to get a franchise quarterback

Yiu can trade up to get a kid who never played a down in the NFL

    Nothing more

This is true, but you get a better kid who's never played a down in the NFL presumably.

At arguably the most important position in the NFL with the team you currently have, you pull the trigger imo.

Sure Will Howard could turn out to be Tom Brady. The odds show he'll most likely be more like a Landry Jones.

If the Steelers didn’t draft at 11 overall but at 20, Ben Rothlisberger would have been picked by another team.

The reality is, this team needs a youth infusion of talent at the most important position.

The Rodgers stuff, blah blah. I am at the point where I really do not expect or care what the end result is, if they make a push and win a PO game, great, but for me I really desire a competitive team. If the end result is a 7 win team, that you see promise in, then it may actually be a wake up out of the mediocrity we have seen on recent years. By competitive I mean not getting blown out, fighting hard, and seeing growth on both sides of the ball. If GP has a pro bowl or even all pro year I can't say we necessarily lose in this trade, would have been nice to see that tandem, but in reality we were not going to pony up the bucks needed to keep in in house.
