Here we go! The rhetoric from Sanders and his agent is already starting. This absolutely sickens me. They are already making threats and he hasn't done SQUAT in his NFL career at this point?! At least Wallace had put up a couple of decent statistical seasons. I was in favor of the Steelers matching the Pats' offer but for Sanders agent to already be making not so subtle threats is causing me to reconsider. I guess we've got Wallace 2.0 to look forward to from another member of The Young Money HUNGRY Crew!!!

    Tweet from Ed Bouchette:
Agent says Pats weren't the only Sanders offer, & he may opt to leave in 2014 unless #Steelers offer him big deal.

First of all, if I was the owner, I would have taken the 3rd round pick and he could have been NE's problem. BUT....since that's not the case, I'd keep letting him make his little threats, and see how he likes it when his *** sits on the bench for 16 games in 2013....then see what kind of big deal that gets him here or elsewhere!

Sick of these guys that are injury-prone and have been average at best making these big bad threats! Time to put em in their place!

Relax...wow...this is NOTHING we didn't already know...obviously if they chose to...he could leave after this year. I do not see that as a threat...its a fact. Also no where in the article do they say he must have a big money deal. Here are 2 quotes from the article (by Sanders agent):

"While Woy said "we are open to discussing" a multi-year contract, he added that, "We are also open to him playing the year out."

"It would have to be a very good deal for us to sign a multi-year agreement," Woy said."

The first quote...nothing major there just stating the OBVIOUS facts that we all know. The second quote...DUH!!! What agent/player wouldn't want a very good deal. This does not mean they're looking for Wallace money or anything of the sort...a good deal for them could be $5mil a year or something...who knows.

No need to blow this out of proportion...there was nothing said here that none of us didnt already know. This is just typical media...trying to stir stuff up and get hits on their website(s).

After the Wallace melodrama that played out for over a year, this doesn't bother you in the least??!!! Wow! I think this is pathetic. His agent is already making implicit threats and Sanders claim to fame at this point in his career is that he's capable of fumbling and breaking his foot without ever being hit. Maybe I am a little sensitive after all of this Wallace garbage that we've had to endure but I'm sick and tired of the Young Money HUNGRY Crew always putting themselves before the team. Don't you think it would be refreshing if Sanders told his agent to SHUT UP and let me go out and actually EARN a big contract based on my play ON THE FIELD?! I'm tired of being told to just chill out and relax when I'm critical of these freaking divas who always make it about themselves and have forgotten somewhere along the way that football is a TEAM SPORT. The more I think about it, WE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE THIRD ROUND PICK!!!

Yep, this was my fear in signing him. Now he believes many are interested and we also haghly value him by matching. Now the power is in his hands. As long as he plays out this contract years by bringing in career numbers, we would benefit us this year. But it will hurt us long term.

This is perfectly in the Steelers favor.

Sanders has to have big year to earn a big contract. So far he has underperformed even though that is not all his fault. Sanders can't afford to be a diva this year.

Wallace on the otherhand, had some big years already and deserved more money...he felt he could tank the season because he would get paid regardless.

I still don't believe that there is no way to resign Sanders after next year. If Steelers want him they can make it happen. However, I still say we should act like he is going to leave and draft big-time rookie WR to groom. That way, if Sanders does leave it is no sweat off our back.

Ed came away with egg on his face over this whole thing, I look for him to spin anything Sanders related negatively.

That said, anyone who reads my posts knows that I think Sanders is Wallace all over again. He just put the screws to the organization knowing full well the cap situation, I don't see him being easy to deal with in the next contract negotiations. I don't mind Sanders being back for this year because it helps us immediately but I think they would have been smarter taking the pick and a player under their control for the next 4 years.

Who knows, maybe they will surprise me and work out an extension.

The front office has made more boneheaded moves this offseason than I can ever remember. I am furious that they matched New England's offer.

The only way they SHOULD have matched that offer is if they had a good feeling that they could sign Sanders to a long term deal. I assumed when they matched that they had had some sort of conversation with Sanders on this topic in the 3 days they sat and thought about it.

What a frickin joke. Glad New England suckered us into paying him more, and will just sign him away from us next offseason with nothing in return.

    Well said.
No harm in taking WRs in the draft, but certainly frees us up to pursue positions of need in the early rounds.

Then this is good impetus for Sanders to prove he's worth that long term deal.

It's a different situation. If Sanders were to hold out for camp, then it might become more comparable.

His agent is already flapping his gums about how many teams were interested in him, and how it would take a BIG CONTRACT to get him to sign long term. Are you kidding me?

Have I missed something? 626 yards and 2 touchdowns are both Sander's career high in a season (5 touchdowns in 3 seasons). In what universe is that worth a "big contract."

If he's already talking that crap, imagine what he'll want if he does something unheard of like catch 6 touchdowns in a season.

    Well, that's his agent's job.

I can't imagine there really was that much interest - like you say, Sanders hasn't yet set the world on fire. Though I stand by the decision to keep him.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda... I would have taken the 3rd rounder myself and moved on. But, he is a Steeler so lets hopefully get the best out of him this season.

I feel the front office really thought he would eventually sign the tender. He called there bluff, well his agent did and I believe the brass got spooked at the lack of reciever depth/ talent. This league is unfortunatly offense driven (Thanks to Jackwad Goodell) And with Sanders already knowing the system he has value to the Steelers.

A reciever will be drafted high, 2nd or 3rd round, and possibly one later on. Maybe even in the 1st if they think the value on the board is high. Possibly picking one off the scrap heap after June 1st cuts/camp cuts.

Sanders will do all he can for a contract next year which will be a positive while a newbie learns the system. The Steelers don't have the cap room to make him a deal. And it's obvious that his agent is looking for the payday. As well as Sanders himself. So use him and wave bye bye.

As far as Breaston I heard somewhere that when you make the trip to Germany for treatment it's a last stop.

I would rather give the dough to Bradshaw providing he is healthy.

True, it is his agent's job... But he makes it sound as if Sander's isn't even going to be reasonable. I hope I'm wrong. I just don't like this move.

I for one didn't want to re sign him,now that they did and they don't sign a long term deal I will be pissed. Didn't they have enough time between when he signed the offer sheet and when we had to make the decision to get a better feel for whether or not he would be in our future plans. SMH.

You would think so. They've botched the entire handling of the situation. The day they placed a 3rd round tender on him they should've made the decision that they'd give him up for a 3rd. If they weren't, they should've spent the additional 700K to make it a 2nd rounder.

he's not being paid alot of money for a guy that's supposed to be our starter for next year. he's seen the offer wallace got and turned down, only to see them give it to AB that still had a year on his contract. now they expect him to be AB and wallace like as a starter, sure i'd want more then 1.5 mil. even at 2.5 mil. it's cheap for a starter. i'd like to get a nice paycheck and also know where i'm going to be for several years. why wouldn't he expect to be paid as a starter if thats what we expect from him? http://www.steelers.com/news/articl...al-to-me/0d6cc40f-1a7f-4e70-918a-762a8baf4c01

Oh, I'm sorry. Please just forget I said anything then. I'd never want to turn a molehill into a mountain. #backatcha

What's Sanders done to earn this big payday that his agent speaks of? Absolutely nothing at this point in his career. Maybe he'll come up big this year, we'll see. But if I were Sanders I'd tell my agent to stop pretending he has negotiating leverage at this point! Why does this all seem to be coming from the Young Money HUNGRY Crew? That's why I respect the heck out of players like Jonathan Dwyer who knows he hasn't done squat and wants to go out and actually EARN a payday next season.

Sounds a whole heckuva lot like what Wallace said last year. This place is special, blah, blah, blah... The Steelers gave me a shot, blah, blah, blah...

I just get so tired of all the selfish behavior coming from these divas and their cocky agents. And for the Sanders' camp to already start the self-centered rhetoric so closely on the heels of what we've just been through with Wallace should strike at the heart of any Steeler fan. Sanders (and agent) need to just shut up, go out and play football to see if you're even capable of being a decent number two receiver. You can start talking BIG CONTRACT after you've actually done something.
