Ryan Clark says Steelers should tank

I used to like this guy. Now he's a clown. More proof -

On an episode of ESPN's Get Up, Clark spoke about his reasoning for the possible tank.

“They should want to lose,” Clark said. “I know this goes against everything that’s black and yellow. But they’ve been a competitive team for the entire time that Mike Tomlin has been there. First off, the Steelers haven't been a championship contender since long before Ben left. As we all know, their last playoff win was Jan. 2017 when the Killer Bees beat KC's Smith, Ware, and Kelce 18-16, then got trounced by the Patriots. Secondly, you could make the argument that the Steelers are already prioritizing next year over wins this year. We got rid of our best QB, RB, and WR.

 

The myth of "Tanking"
That will get you beat up in the locker room.
Even the 2017 Cleveland Browns would kick some butt over that.
No team has ever walked out on the field and thought, "let's lose every game."
But the fickle finger of fate does allow it to happen.

 

They might do it organically not on purpose.

The QB position is paramount now. Rodgers on, Rodgers off, can The Reindeer go the season, will Howard take over, who is the #2 receiver now, the corner position shaky, turtle archaic offense, archaic defensive structure.

They might muster 9-8.

Clark is just another media mouthpiece. Wonder how he would feel if the message when he was playing was "Were going to Tank"

 

I remember somebody suggesting we tank in 2022 when 2-6 going into the bye and got ridiculed

He said enjoy this pointless win against Brady while everybody acted like it was a playoff win against Pats Brady

Won all those meaning less games to not even make playoffs. Ruined our draft position and got Broderick Jones who’s been a big bowl of MEH.

If we tanked after bye… We would’ve had #2 pick and CJ Stroud at QB right now

Clark's statement is almost as dumb as the fans on message boards saying the Steelers should tank. ALMOST

That idea of tanking is BS. I just can't imagine a HC saying OK guys we can get a great draft pick if you lose. Sure we pay you tons of money and you have egos that want to win but just go out there and lose. I know exactly 1 Bengal fan and he was convinced they tanked for Burrow. I told him, no you just sucked.

The way things are looking they may not need any help in tanking but I sure the hell ain't giving up on the season.

 

He is not that wrong....Better finish at 5-12 or worse that finish with a 9-8 type season and being blowout in the wild card round again.At this point,the steelers need to do what who is the best for the future since no way they will compete against contender this year

He is wrong though. No team should tank. That is just a dumb thing to say publicly or otherwise. The 'not wrong' part is that if you finish with a worse record, you pick earlier in the draft. That part is true, whether you tank or not.
You can make it sound as logical as you want. There is never any reason to tanka season. Remember the Colts 'suck for Luck' season when everybody knew they were tanking the season to get the #1 pick and draft Luck? They did it. They have nothing to show for it. Even the 2 teams that organically went 0-season didn't get fixed with the #1 overall pick. Losing is not a fix. As much as it hurts to try your best and still come up short, losing on purpose is never beneficial.

 

It worked in the NHL for the penguins in the 2000s with Crosby, Fleury, Malkin, etc or in 1984 with Mario Lemieux

Problem in all of those teams you names was their front office was so bad after that.Btw, to be clear, I don't think the steelers are going to do this since they are half rebuilding, half the other direction which is so frustrating but the last thing we need is a season similar that the last 4

 

If he actually said that a sports team should tank then ESPN should show him the door. It goes against every competitive way of believing that has ever been.

 

I don't think the Steelers are gonna tank.... they are just not gonna win many games. Steelers will compete, but lose to the better teams. I can see sweeps by the Ravens and Bengals this year... if LJ and Burrow are healthy.

 

Like Tomlin said about Clark gets paid to talk it doesn't mean he's good at it .
