Not sure how to post tweets, but Sanders seems happy to be back.

    Emmanuel Sanders ✔ @E_Sanders88

not a great move if they don't sign him longer term but should be a help this year.

why is it heath after a knee injury going into his 10th season isn't old like cotchery going into his 10th season? cotchery's last two were very gentle on him. he's got less wear then heath.

Will be interesting to see who will be available when the Pats pick now, maybe some of the better draft gurus here can chime in as to who they think we would have taken when the time comes. We'll never know for sure though, could be fun to speculate, couple years from now we might be like, man sure glad we didn't give up Sanders for that guy or damn it, we could have had that guy! :lolol:

Man, why is everyone so upset...This is best for the team, and even if they let him walk next year who cares...they will have drafted and groomed someone for a year...Which I am sure will happen in 1 of the first 3 rounds.

2.5 for 1 year isn't that bad. There are guys on this team who make a hell of a lot more than that.

Shame on the Steelers for putting such a low tender on him, which caused this whole charade to happen in the first place.

I have a sneaky suspision that the Patriots did in fact want one of the steelers FA's and it may not have been Sanders. They have a history of smoke-screens when they can put the screws to another team.

I'm not sure who you have in mind.... I believe Redman and Mclendon both have not signed their tenders yet?

If Patriots were ultra diabolical they could have offered Sander more money, and if Steelers bit they would have had to cut someone possibily, maybe like Keisel? IDK?

On ESPN 970 they were saying teams rarely have gone after RFA's, but the PAT's in the last 10 to 15 years have gone after 3 of ours now...aint that somethin????

One was Fu'matafala, someone else, and now Sanders. I really dislike that Belicheat.

If they take McLendon from us I will personally declare war on them. LOL.

I'm thinking it's probably McClendon they're really interested in. They have a rotating stable of running backs already.

Exactly. We can still draft a WR in round one and get him ready this year. If Sanders wants too much next year, we are in a better position to let him walk. If he signs an extension with us great, we then have 3 good WR's plus Jerrico and Plax. This is actually a good move. 3rd rounders are no guarantee.

Now the fun part starts, What are the Steelers willing to pay him? And
what figure Does Manny and his agent have in mind?
With the Steelers knowing that they need all the offensive weapons on board from the get go, can't be no learning curve this
year folks. Players especially (TD makers) have to put points on the board. Big void to fill with our offense is replacing TD'S.
We all better hope that the Steelers draft some playmakers(RB)(WR) and of course this will have to be after the 3rd round,
that these GEMS are found, Good luck Kevin/Coach T. Now lets see if you are as good as everybody on here thinks so.

Not sure why people want to look at this issues from extremely negative stand point? I understand why the Steelers matched the offer for Sanders. I would had understood if they had choose not to match the offer for Sanders.

Teams in the NFL typically have short term and long term plans. Resigning Sanders for this season is a short term move. Sanders play and time will determine if he will be with the team or in the NFL for the long term. Now that Wallace is gone Sanders will have more opportunities to play. Sanders has more to prove then Wallace did. The 3rd round pick would not be guaranteed to be a good player. The Pats knew there are no guarantees with 3rd round players so they decided to attempt to sign a player with potential that can play in the NFL. The Steelers probably matched the offer for the same and different reasons.

it's negative because we have no money and need to sign other players too. also next year we will have 3 wr's as unrestricted free agents, still with no money. even if we draft 1, we need 2 more to field a team next year.

Yeah, this just feels like a short term fix to a long term problem. What will we do in 2014 if/when Sanders, Plax and Cotchery are gone? Would have preferred having the extra pick so WR was in the mix on draft day, or more in the mix.

That's not what they were saying at all. They were saying we're going to see what your market value is worth and if reasonable pay you accordingly. You talk as if there's actually loyalty between players and ownership in the NFL LOL! Players are always trying to get as much as they can and ownership is always trying to hold on to as much as they can. That's just the way it works and the Steelers are no different or no more disloyal than any other team. We've seen plenty of players offered what they're worth and even more than they're worth and they end up walking for even more money anyway. I'm not sure yet I agree with matching the offer but I don't blame them at all for not offering him the higher money right upfront.

People need to understand - what the Pats did in risking a 3rd round pick on a 1 year contract offer - was pretty unusual. Generally, the RFA process is designed to draw multi-year offers for the players with draft pick compensation because it usually doesn't make sense for a team to give up a draft pick for a 1 year rental of a young player. The 3rd round pick compensation meant that any team offering him a contract would probably offer less because they would also be giving up a pick. The Steelers correctly used that as leverage. What the Pats did was probably somewhat anticipated, but not given a high probability.

The comment that someone had about McClendon as a target is interesting. McClendon was the guy that I wanted us to attach 2nd round compensation to, because I viewed him as the most likely target under original round compensation, because he was undrafted which means that we would only have the right to match and zero compensation. I would not be at all surprised to see someone swoop in a try to sign him.

I think it was Rodney Bailey and I believe we let him walk... We matched for Fu though.

I was on the fence on this. But as the team got closer to the deadline, the more I leaned toward keeping him. I don't think it's a bad move even if they let him walk after 2013. I think Colbert and Tomlin will still draft a WR in the draft but they needed more stability in that position this season. Apparently, having that stability, before a 2013 draftee is ready to step in, was worth the 2.5M.

It's only negative if a person choose to view the situation that way. What other players are you referring that they need to sign? The Steelers will find a way to sign the players they need to fill out the roster. Filling the roster probably depends on what happens in the draft. The Steelers will find a way to have 53 players on the roster this season, next season, and every season in the future. The team is always going to have needs and holes that need filled. Not one team in the league has 53 very good/great players. Why concern yourself with next season at this juncture?

because of all the 1 year contracts that expiere after this year. we can't fill them all with no money and field a playoff caliber team. the years are running out with ben.

the whole receiving corp except AB.
our FB and every rb we have right now.

we are not paying this bunch alot of money right now.

we need a whole compliment of backup O-linemen still.

every time we retool the skill positions, it cuts into another year of learning and ben aging.

the prices to fill these spots won't go down.

we have alot more holes then normal right now and into next season. missing on whole draft years hasen't helped us.
