Yeah , but we didn't even want OD after his rookie contract, and He never did anything after that. At least Flacco got resigned by the team that drafted him. I'm just saying I can't consider You a franchise Qb, if the team that drafted You doesn't even resign you. JMO

I like Howard but much like Pickett, he only had one really good season in a 5 year time-frame.

I agree that O'Donnell was not a franchise QB but the question at the beginning was who the steelers developed at the QB position outside of Ben and I think O'Donnell is a good answer for that...He had his moments with us....

The reason why O'Donnell left the steelers was because he did not agree with the steelers for a contracr...He was not the only one in this situation for the steelers during this period, I think Kevin Greene had also left the steelers after 1995, Rod Woodson after 1996, etc.

Howard may not be the answer. We know Rudolph isn't. Both could be...passable (pun intended).

Rodgers, even at 41 or whatever is a clear upgrade for THIS season.

Why on god's green earth is Kirk Cousins still being touted as a trade option? I mean, I get the Falcons would love to dump his worthless hiney, but why would Steelers want a QB that is obviously toast? He STUNK with the Falcons, he's only a few years younger than Rodgers.

I ask because yet again, more Cousing to Steelers trade ideas are popping up post draft. If there is one QB, possibly available that I absolutely DON'T want its Cousins. I'd much rather give Howard the job and if he's awful pre-season, then let Rudolph helm the QB position. Cousins? I'd have only considered him if the Falcons ate half the contract remainging AND sent us their 2026 first round pick. Sadly they no longer have that, so NO THANKS.

I hope these Cousins sugestions or theories (not rumors) are just Falcons fans hoping to dump him for minimal cost to the Falcons. Good luck with that.

The case for Cousins would be that he's a year removed from the achilles tear, in addition to an apparent shoulder injury being the reason for the awful streak of games he had before Penix was installed. Not sure who who wants to make that case, maybe a contending team who loses their starter to injury.

It's not going to be Khan - he already bypassed signing younger, more talented players when free agency began to avoid messing with the compensatory formula next year. He's not to send a pick to Atlanta for a high-risk, aging QB who would still be owed a decent chunk of change after the trade.

Mason signed a second and a third contract with the Steelers

A draft choice who doesn’t sign a second is a bust

Fair enough. A 'first round QB' that signs a second or third contract with the drafting team.

I finally got around to watching the Gruden/Howard video. Good stuff. The only thing is its all pompoms, he should spend some time at the end of these videodisc discussing the things he thinks the prospect needs to work on.

But I’m officially on the koolaid, I don’t know what the heck people are talking about with this kid that he is only a backup.

He has all the physical tools plus the football IQ to succeed at this level. The consistency and mechanics can be ironed out, Arth will be able to improve that, he did it with Fields whos mechanics were way worse.

    I mean...

Assuming that Will Howard plays at all should anything happen to the likes of Mason Rudolph or even Aaron Rodgers (assuming he signs) is something that I would be intrigued by. For that matter, Will Howard playing very well should anything happen to either Mason and/or Aaron should give the team hope for the future. That said, very seldom do Rookie QBs go on tears; much less ones drafted after one.

How quickly Will Howard catches on will be something to look forward to come Rookie Minicamp; days away if I am correct. There should be more to find out more about him (though a little bit) by then. OTAs and Training Camp is where a clearer picture will come to fold.

Ben likes him, and compared....kinda to Brady. Not that it means anything. You know me....if we draft him, and as soon as he puts on the Black, and Gold, I will be rooting for him.

    Watch Roethlisberger's highlights;

Big Ben Roethlisberger Miami(Ohio) college Highlights

Then watch Howard's and tell me they don't have similar playing styles:

Now, Roethlisberger was known for not being a big film study guy. He just wanted to get out there and ball. I don't know what Howard's study habits are. But it could be fun to imagine what could happen if he's given the chance....

Thats the thing, if Rodgers signs then he wont get that chance and then they will be into next years draft looking for a QB and if they take one in the first rd and especially if they move up for one, Howard is never going to get that opportunity.

The only way is if when he practices and it’s just so obvious that he can play that they know they got their guy.

Gruden thinks Howard is the best Qb in this draft . That's a good thing imo Hopefully Tomlin and company will give him a fair chance this year and not be deadset in drafting a Qb in round 1 next year

I believe he won the BIG12 with KState, so 2 out of 5 seasons ended with a championship. That's a pretty good career in my book.

I hope Rodgers doesn't sign. Unlike some people on here, I know if they spend that much money on Rodgers , he will play unless he is injured.

I took a closer look at Howard and he is not going to wow you with a cannon, but he can throw it, a lot of bread basket throws, for real

it's a long way to go before next draft, but I think he has potential to be our QB 1, it at least puts less pressure on finding a QB next year, I think even if Rogers signs we can get a good idea of what we have in Howard in practice

You know when Ben 1st played in the NFL, I remember that Ron Jaworski used to say Ben didn't have a cannon, but He could finesse a great deep ball.

Hopefully we walked into some kind of Tom Brady situation, and he is super motivated when he gets here, and eventually becomes a starter.

With the success rate of first round QBs at maybe 50% I can't imagine what it is for 6th rounders. We can only hope for the next Brady.
Sadly though, one website had Howard's comp as Blake Bortles. But Bortles did beat the Steelers in the playoffs, so there is that.

I watched a Gruden video and it seemed to me as a layman he has good study habits and understands schemes and what defenses are doing. I would also like to point out that Wills 40 time is 4.5 secs and Bens was 4.75 .. So he has the same stature and is faster then Ben. To take this a step further and kinda funny is that Josh Allen ran a 4.75 and Mahommes and Peyton Manning ran 4.8s

That would still make Him the highest paid Qb on the roster, except maybe our rookie Qb.....so....what I said is true
