What was the biggest difference for the steelers between the 1994-2001 teams vs 2004-2010 teams?

Like I said, the Steelers did a good job selling a story and quite a few folks here were suckered into believing it!

I saw this happen in Denver when the Bowlen family sold out for mega bucks to the Penner and Walton Group. Is there another Pro Team that shares their facilities with a local college?

The new facility is going to be financed entirely by the new ownership group.

you can say any of them are franchise qb's. mahomes has won, the rest have not. close don't mean nothing. first loser. you can call them franchise, king of the world, jesus or whatever you want but it doesn't change the fact that they have won nothing but football games. not the game. many have never got to the game. does that make them better? that's whats dumb. heck every team has a chance to start the season. 0-0. everyone is in first place at that point. no every team won't be perfect but lamar and allen must not be the right guy to get them to where they want to be. they pay them gazillions.:cool:

many guys are in the HOF that never won a super bowl. that is the goal you know. the team not the individual matters. so no that is stupid and you are wrong.

I consider Dan Marino as a much better QB than Troy Aikman was even though it's 3-0 for Aikman in the ring

Interesting back and forth here. Allow me to be the voice of reason.

A great team with a good QB can net a team a playoff berth. Doesn't mean that they will reach the Super Bowl. Much as I hate to say it, Pittsburgh since Big Ben retiring falls into this category.

A great team with a very good QB can net a team a playoff run. How deep though is tricky. On one side, Nick Foles was very good for one season and had one of the best Playoff Runs of any QB in history. After that, he wasn't the same. On the other side, Kyler Murray hasn't been to the playoffs in four seasons.

While seldom does this happen, an elite, if not legendary team paired with a good to very good QB can reach the Super Bowl. What happens after that though is anyone's guess. More often than not it is the team around the QB and not the QB himself that wins the Super Bowl; 2000 Ravens and 2015 Denver Broncos come to mind.

    - Conversely

A good team with an elite QB can make a playoff run. Doesn't mean though that they will reach the big game. Joe Burrow hasn't made it back to the AFC Championship since the conclusion of the 2022 Season. 2024 marked the first time he was healthy since 2022 and despite having an MVP Caliber Season, missed the playoffs.

A very good team with an elite QB can make it to the Super Bowl. Coincidentally enough, Patrick Mahomes in 2020 and this past season illustrate that having such a talent only takes you so far.

Now, much like the last example above, again seldom, a great team, if not legendary team, paired with an elite QB, all but guarantees a Super Bowl win. Some will use the 2024 Eagles and that is not a bad example. However, my personal favorite example of all of this is the 2020 Tampa Bay Bucs. Top notch Offense with Tom Brady and a Top Flight Defense?! No team was going to stand up to that.

Long story short?! A Franchise QB is a major component to get to the Super Bowl. It is the team though that can win it for them. That said, acquiring that Franchise Signal Caller makes building that great team a bit more easier; provided that the Front Office and Coaching Staff can both draft and develop well.

No, he isn't. It isn't his fault that such a simple metaphor sailed over your head.

i agree but to find that guy is difficult. the team around them being built is difficult. injuries and other factors play roles. even with a guy a team calls a franchise qb it guarantees nothing. 49ers are a good example. pretty good team around several (franchise) qb's and one year they get there and one year they don't make the playoffs. patrick mahomes and brady's don't come around very often. even they can lose. there are so many variables too. players can get greedy which if you pay them can hurt the other aspect of the team. coaching matters too. is it patrick mahomes or andy reid that makes them that good? is it a combination? the stars must align for it to work. we don't have all the components to do it. we had a franchise qb under tomlin and he failed with the players he drafted. they did win when he had the former coaches players around that franchise qb. we had a franchise qb, best wr and best rb in the league and won nothing. there is no guarantee.

i'm not so sure until we get rid of the coach that allows this. or the owner that is ok with that coach and allowing this. we had a franchise qb, the best wr and rb in the league and nothing. we've had the DPOY and a franchise qb and nothing with one of the best kickers in the league. what is the common denominator? it's not the qb. the qb also doesn't play defense. the old if they don't score, we can't lose comes into play.

Mind you I am posting various scenarios here. As regards to the best case (my final ones for both), quite a bit of luck has to happen there. That said, of the two, nabbing the one will make building the team more simple than not.

As we both have stated though; nabbing him is only apart of the equation. The NFL is the ultimate Team Sport.

So if Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson never win a Sb, but get into the HOF that's great, so if Watt never wins a SB , but gets into the HOF that will be great????
I like how the same things people think for other teams don't apply here.

There is probably more luck involved in getting to a SB than we would like to admit. At the top of the list; injuries. Then there is refereeing emerging as another factor. Add turnovers as a luck factor and very variable.

In a radio interview, Cowher once said many NFL games come down to only 3 or 4 plays that are significant to the point of impacting the outcome. So out of maybe close to a couple of thousand NFL plays in a team season, you might be talking about 50 plays impacting a team's record, impacting playoff seeding, impacting chances of getting to a championship. A little sobering to think about. It's also why there is so much scrutiny on refs and their judgment calls impacting the game.
