It tells you this draft isn't loaded with elite talent.

Yet there was a report today that the Steelers are considering trading down, perhaps even out of the first round to get more picks. If the defensive linemen they want are gone, that would make sense.

Just hope if Sanders is still available at 21 that they do a hard pass on him. He just seems overly hyped to me and will be difficult to deal with over the years. I could be completely wrong but let him be somebody else’s problem child. I can already see Deion interfering during his NFL career. JMHO.

They do need a 2nd round pick. Not sure if Metcalf will be worth what they gave away.

Montana was drafted 82nd. Brady was drafted 199th.

You never know what can happen in the draft.

We have mason, we're fine. And we can trade back and actually start to build, instead of thinking we are one piece away.

Metcalf is better than any WR that would be available in the second round.

Consider that any second round pick is probably 50/50 to be good at all, never mind as good as Metcalf, and I’m feeling OK about the draft pick compensation. The salary cap commitment is a bit steep, but that’s the WR market.

Especially without a QB to throw the ball to him…..

I still feel like acquiring him was to secure a WR1 and flip Pickens - their styles are too similar. I haven't decided if I want that to be the case.

I suppose if they don't plan on extending him I'd rather they try and get a 2nd this year than hope for a 3rd round compensatory pick in 2027.

The 21st pick hasn't exactly been a fountain of all pros. At this point, I would go for quality of picks, not quantity. The Steelers need playmakers, not role players.

    Here's the list since 2000:

Year Name Team Round Pick Player Position

    2024 Chop Robinson Dolphins 1 21 21 DE
    2023 Quentin Johnston Chargers 1 21 21 WR
    2022 Trent McDuffie Chiefs 1 21 21 DB
    2021 Kwity Paye Colts 1 21 21 DE
    2020 Jalen Reagor Eagles 1 21 21 WR
    2019 Darnell Savage Packers 1 21 21 DB
    2018 Billy Price Bengals 1 21 21 C
    2017 Jarrad Davis Lions 1 21 21 LB
    2016 Will Fuller Texans 1 21 21 WR
    2015 Cedric Ogbuehi Bengals 1 21 21 T
    2014 Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Packers 1 21 21 DB
    2013 Tyler Eifert Bengals 1 21 21 TE
    2012 Chandler Jones Patriots 1 21 21 DE
    2011 Phil Taylor Browns 1 21 21 DT
    2010 Jermaine Gresham Bengals 1 21 21 TE
    2009 Alex Mack Browns 1 21 21 C
    2008 Sam Baker Falcons 1 21 21 T
    2007 Reggie Nelson Jaguars 1 21 21 DB
    2006 Laurence Maroney Patriots 1 21 21 RB
    2005 Matt Jones Jaguars 1 21 21 WR
    2004 Vince Wilfork Patriots 1 21 21 DT
    2003 Jeff Faine Browns 1 21 21 C
    2002 Dan Graham Patriots 1 21 21 TE
    2001 Nate Clements Bills 1 21 21 DB
    2000 Sylvester Morris Chiefs 1 21 21 WR

See my mock that I just posted where I was able to trade George to Arizona for a 2026 3rd, a 2025 4th and WR Michael Wilson.

You must have been napping again

    I know it’s a ***** getting older

    The Steelers signed Mason

You know the guy half the board wanted as our savior a year ago and a few for whatever reason think never had a fair chance

Counting on an outlier is a bad plan.

What first round talent is out there that would benefit the Steelers and we might get as late in the draft as we are? Maybe we trade that away for picks next year with the plan to get one of them top quarterbacks that should be coming out? Something like trade away our first round pick for a third round this year and a first round next year from someone?

I'm sure there will be some inquiries made about trades up and down.
I would rather trade our first round pick for an established player like we did with Minkah and DK. Add some Cam Hayward level DL or a shutdown CB. But I doubt we find a willing partner.

If Mason Rudolph doesn’t come out immediately and start having his best success to date then he should be benched by game 3. There will be no need to keep starting him hoping that we can barely make the playoffs and limp back into another first round loss. I’d rather see what Charlie from the concession stand can do rather than another Mark Malone type season.
