I really believe Warren can be a number one for us. I don’t see to many areas where Najee was better than Warren.

    1. Speed - Warren
    2. Vision - Warren
    3. Cutting Ability - Warren
    4. Elusiveness - Warren
    5. Receiving - Warren
    6. Pass Protection - Warren
    7. Power - Equal - Warren creates more speed to power pop, Najee creates slow train moving push power
    8. Contact balance - Warren
    9. Stiff Arm - Najee
    10. Want to - Equal
    11. Durability - Najee
    12. Ball Security - Najee

Loved Najee for his attitude and effort but he just didn’t have the explosion or speed and at times he seemed to lack vision especially on wide zone cut backs. He wasn’t fit our system. To me he is much better in power scheme with duo blocks. If we can really clean up our blocking and truly threaten the deep half of the field with two WR’s now it should loosen up the line scrimmage and not allow the opposing defenses to stack the box. I really think Warren could flourish.

Not to dismiss those rankings, but a caveat is Warren's sample size. He's had 346 carries over that span. Tops is Derrick Henry with 954. David Montgomery is 25th with 506.

Hopefully he transitions into a larger role and continues that kind of production. He's looked good for the most part.

I recognized that too but still a nice sample size. I see no reason why he won’t continue that success. The YPC may dip but dont think it will fall off a cliff and the other metrics should remain constant.

The key for Warren is going to be durability and ball security. I have no doubt in his infield ability.

Jaylen Warren 6 career TDs, 7 career fumbles. I’m sure he’s top 20 in that category.

Can't forget leaping ability. Najee was a master of that, even when not needed.

Wrong on No. 5 and No. 6, and receiving isn't as big a gap as you think.

He was the Steelers' favorite. That he started every game, got more snaps, and more carries should tell you that.

Those numbers will very likely drop with increased carries. The real question is how far.
Though I would be surprised if they drop below 4 yds/att. Some of that will depend on the passing game.

Talk about having to get the last word in

For some reason I can’t find the Steelers favorite on the roster

    Hmmm

Harris had better ball security, better durability, and was better in pass protection. He was the feature/work horse back for those reasons. His on-field production didn't warrant a second contract. As better as some seem to think Warren was as a RB, we still expect the Steelers to draft a RB early in this draft. Some are even wanting another first round RB. I think multiple things can all be true at the same time.

Sorry but that is where Warren truly outshined Najee. Warren is lauded for pass blocking protection. Ask the Bengals linebackers out about that. As for receiving Najee often caught the ball at a stand still and then it would take awhile for him to get moving often getting tackled for animal gain. He would always try to juke guys after catching the ball and it rarely worked because he had no speed built up. Najee lacks explosion in the start stop category that is where Warren could really outshine him. Warren would catch it start stop, spin, etc. and often convert the first down on alot of plays. He was significantly better than Najee in receiving out the backfield.

I agree with your assessment with the exception of pass protection. Warren is fantastic at pass protection.

I didn't say he wasn't. Najee was just better in that role.

    because Njee ran on 1st n 2nd for -3, -5,-7 ?
Warren come in passpro on 3rd and forever and still got a few check downs that if GP or Pat would have blocked better would have been a 1st down

Goodness yes. Our downfield blocking last season was terrible. I have no idea if they keep stats on that but we would have to rank very low.
Gainwell is also very good in pass protection. A lot of times blocking is all about attitude.

I agree. What’s your feeling on picking up Nick Chubb as opposed to drafting a rb?

I would use Dobbins and Chubb as back up plans should a good RB not be there at the right time.

On the fence. I get the appeal because when healthy he has been a very dominant runner. I get the hesitation because he's not been healthy much of his career. He's 29 so time's not on his side at this point either. I guess if choosing one or the other I would go with a rookie draft pick.
