I really think that is McClains biggest problem....he went to a bad organization....where there were no leaders...and cared more about their check than the W's.....and played him out of position.....His off field problems were stupid...we all agree on that...but many 21 year old millionaires do stupid things...especially when there is no mentor to show him how to be a professional.

I think in the right system...with the right guidance...he can be the force he was at Alabama....again...it was not just the Raiders who thought this kid was good...it was virtually every scout for every team.....same with JaMarcus Russell (who I would bring to camp) ....When you look at how many first rounders the Raiders have had that get labeled BUST...you must ask...is it them...or the player...Robert Gallery was considered about as safe a pick as you could make...Russell, McClain....the list is long.

i could get on board far easier with mclain then russell. i'd rather a head case LB then a head case qb. russell has been his own worst enemy at times if it's not going well for him.

Again..a young millionaire that was just handed the keys to the car...he did not have those issues in college when he just had his permit....he is much older...wiser (couldn't get dumber right?) and again..he was a Raider...where football was second to $$$

He could be the next Tommy Maddox....former #1 pick...that took a few years to put it together...and costs nothing to bring in.

#4 camp arm....cut him if its not working....move on.

I do agree with Hack some on this...some players fall into those crappy situations on a crappy team and organization and such. And just wither away and loose their minds/etc...because of the situation. While some yes are busts or no good...but there are some who could be stars in the right environment.

I'd have no problem giving McClain a shot if the $$$ is right. Which it seems he's cleared waivers...so why not offer him a vet min deal?

I definitely think you're on to something. How can so many cant miss players miss. The common denominator is ,it's the Raiders. I would love for us to bring him in,but you just know we won't.

Yeah right he's going to sign for a vet min deal, guys are always trying to get paid especially a young player like McClain.

While I feel he will be a Saint when all is said and done...just to get back close to home...and his support system....he might be able to be signed for a good price if you work his mind.

He actually said on more than one occasion that Oakland gave him more money than he knows what to do with...that he wants to get back to winning football.

If Nnamdi can sign for 3mill and no bonus money with the chip on his shoulder to prove he is still elite (and with the 49ers win some games) Then maybe a Steeler team can offer McClain a one year "prove it deal"

But like I said...I think he will go prove it in New Orleans with Ryan as the d-co

What is Mcclain game though? Does it fit in with the Steelers?

It seems we don't have much use if he is just a thumper and can't cover down field?

too many 1 year deals. if we keep this up next season will be a mess. we are also not seeing very many players signing these vet minimum deals just for the chance to be a steeler. i think it's more wishful thinking on our part. guys are signing low contracts elsewhere. gay, spaeth, foote, foster, gradkowski all got 3 year deals.

plax at 36 years old has a 1 year as does,

    worilds
    cotchery
    clark
    keisel
    mclendon
    woods
    dwyer
    sanders
    batch
    redman
    johnson
    johnson
    fangupo
ike? he may be a cap casualty after this year.
    golden
    cromartie-smith
    warren
    carter
    robinson
    rolle
    vandyke
    malecki
    suisham
    sylvester

I am all for a 3 year deal...as long as most of the guaranteed money is in year 2 and 3.

He is going to have to do a "straighten up and fly right" contract with any team.....it will be better for his long term money if he signs low for one year...then proves he is worth $$$.

$ - what he should sign for 1 year
$$ - what he will probably sign for
$$$ - What his agent wants...what he probably wants...but no one will offer till he proves he is not a pain anywhere but in Oakland.

I don't think you can compare Nnamdi's situation to McClain's because already had 2 big contracts and he's 32 or 33 years old on the down side of his career, and Nnamdi wants to play for a winner. No team was going to offer him a big contract. I don't think the Steelers will sign a player like McClain who has character concerns after what happened with Rainey and Ta'amu.

you mean the Ta'amu that is currently a Steeler?

McClains law problems are all behind him currently. (I think)

If had to pick 3 guys to keep from that list it would be...

    Sanders
    Dwyer
    Worilds
    ------------
Keisel - Getting older and I feel we need more QB pressure from our DE's.
Ike - Will not be worth what he wants.
Clark - I really like Clark but he is getting old and it hurts us not having him @ Denver.

A lot could change depending on this season though.

i just watched the video on the steelers main page. it's looking at the D-line. keisel had more than twice the qb pressures as anyone else on the line.

ike knows the realization of the matter and i fully expect him to take a pay cut and be back to finish his career here. he may even get a year added. ike stays in shape and healthy.

sanders has to first make it through this season healthy. it will be his first. they won't pay him unless he does. he controls his own destiny, i'd have to say. i like sanders.

i like worilds and i hope they sign him. just nothing over the top yet. maybe he gets a deal right after training camp. depending on the money then.

dwyer better show more then he has to get much of a pay boost. he also may control his own destiny.

we have to sign will johnson back.

    mclendon should get signed.

i expect some good play from rolle and vandyke this year.

i think clark may get another year. alot depends on troy actually. i doubt they get rid of both after the season without something in line.

alot of guys could come around, carter, robinson, fangupo, batch, redman. i think redman gets a bad rap sometimes. he played well at times last year. he was hurt since camp and never did fully recover. maybe the change upfront will help.

I still think this guy has a lot of potential if and when he gets his head on straight. I wouldn't have a problem signing him depending on how much $$$ he wants.

McClain is close to a deal with the Ravens. We'll get to feel the hurt big time if he straightens himself out.

My guess is the work to be done is hashing out certain incentives/special arrangements in his contract to protect the Ravens if he messes up again.

If this turns out to be a reality, who fills in for him? Curtis Brown? Or do we need to focus on CB in the draft as well?!
