So Tomlin can dig up Tannehill or Wentz or some other washed up former starting Qb?

Maybe he can convince Brady to don the black and gold lol

I take the high draft pick instead of getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs again.

There is a rumor that the deal is already done, and Aaron Rodgers has agreed to a contract with the Steelers. Rodgers just wants to announce the deal on his own terms (I am guessing it is April 9th in Pittsburgh, but some people are saying Aaron wants to skip all the offseason stuff in Pittsburgh)

Now, is this Illegal in the NFL. If a player and team have agreed on a deal, do they have to announce it to the NFL? Not actually signed a contract, because I am assuming Aaron is going to want to make a spectacle of the actual signing of the contract, but shook hands and agreed to a deal?

If there is a deal in place and everything is agreed upon, does the Steelers Front Office need to do anything, besides drive their fans crazy? :)

I assume they need to declare to the league when a player is on their books, but if the rumour is true I also suspect the contract only starts on the day Rodgers wants to announce it. And as the contract doesn’t start until then, they may not have to say anything until then.

Not 100.0% sure, but if it's like most things they wouldn't have to report it yet because they're currently in the rule of 51 phase of the league year.. So hypothetically, unless his cap hit for 2025 were north of $32.1M it's not causing an issue.

It's along the same lines as knowing a player is retiring but saving the announcement until after June 1, so you can split up any dead money accruals.

This makes sense given that the team has shown absolutely no urgency towards the QB position since his visit a few weeks ago.

I can’t lock down my feelings on how they will approach QB in the draft. Will a 1 year contract drive them to take a QB to sit behind Rodgers for a year or will they just wait until the better draft class to take one. Having such limited picks it does make sense to wait if they aren’t rock sure about a prospect in this class.

I am worried that they are seeing a future franchise QB in Milroe. Is there potential? Yes. However the most cited NFL comp to Milroe is Hurts, and Hurts was light years ahead of Milroe as a passer when he was drafted. If it’s Milroe in the 1st… yikes. If it’s Dart, I won’t hate the pick. He is a very natural, accurate thrower who knows when to dial it back and use touch. He will need to be educated on running an NFL offense after being at Ole Miss, but his physical QB skills are solid. I can clearly envision who he can be based on his tape.

I agree on his strengths, but am still bearish on him in the first. His processing and pocket presence are pretty big flags for me. Statistically he was amongst the worst in class in passer rating and sack percentage when under pressure, and it shows on game tape. When he hears footsteps he tends to drop his reads and turn to his legs. Either that or he gets sacked. And when you see a guy in this kind of offense being late anticipating his receivers it's concerning.

I've been across the gamut with this QB class. It may be blasphemy to say, but right now I think Dart could be as big a project as Milroe, and Milroe offers bigger upside. (I don't want him in the first either.)

Milroe scares me, but he did start for Bama. Obviously more about the wheels than the arm, but he's hardly awful. He's just in need of a lot of work. Think of it as a step behind Fields at OSU as a passer and step ahead as a runner.
The ability to run would open up ALOT for the passing game. Can Milroe improve enough with passing touch, reads to become average passer while being a top 3 running QB? Possible, but the outcome range is from bust-to-superstar.

Agree that hurts was far beyond Milroe as a passer. He wasn't quite the runner Milroe is, but he knew HOW to run as a QB. Just being fast isn't enough of course.

Dart would be fine with me. Other than a DL or a stud OT/OG falling to us in round 1, I'd then like to see Dart or a trade back and if they really love Milroe, pick him 10 or 20 spots later. If figure that speed is going to get him overdrafted. That and his apparently good pro-day performance (passing wasn't as bad as thought).

The thing about DL, this is supposed to be a deep draft, so if at pick 21 a game-changer isn't there, then draft the QB (or Jeanty even if he falls) or trade back and add another day 2 or 3 pick...we need em.

If they're signing Rodgers and out on round 1 QB, then its probably a Howard or Ewers or McCord.

A rookie quarterback most likely isn’t going to do a lot to help you win this year

Signing Rodgers for one year should not affect the draft

If the right rookie is there then draft him

So what makes the most sense, if Rodgers is indeed signing for 1 year? Wait until next year for a deeper QB pool or grab a guy like Howard in the 3rd or 4th? Not sure I like using a 1st this year.

Rodgers might be more trouble & $ than he's worth but it could be interesting considering the weapons... I'm okay with Rudolph though & maybe taking a shot in the draft... Brady was found late in the draft...

Based on what we are seeing I am going to say pass on ole man Rodgers and make Mason #1 .. Draft a QB and go with him for late in season or next year. This organization has zero clues. There is no reason to be looking for a QB at this juncture. This should have been sealed months ago

If the Steelers had the #1 pick in this years draft I would say go for it; let the #1 overall pick and Mason battle it out for the starting job. But the Steelers don't have the number one pick, and Mason Rudolph has no business in being the teams #1 QB on the depth chart going into training camp.

If Rodgers wanted to battle some unproven first round pick, he would be all over the Minnesota starting job.

I don't see the Steelers taking a QB in the first round with Rodgers on the roster. Maybe not officially signing Rogers until after the draft is Khan's way of trying not to tip his hat in the 1st round?

Nothing has changed my mind; I still want Qwen Ewers in the 3rd round.

Good points although Qwen is a good QB I don't think we should take him in the 3rd. His list of injuries inlcuding oblique injury last year is very concerning.

You have to think they will move to get beyond this 4 year ordeal with the QB room instead of prolonging it yet another year with no clear answer beyond it.

There is no rule preventing them from drafting a QB in 2025 and 2026. Remember '69 and '70?
Let them compete and the best man wins. The other plays backup or goes elsewhere in a trade.
