His positives are some of the things his detractors say he can't do and some of his negatives are things he can do, like not being able to escape the rush :lolol: And I was wrong, had a brain fart and agreed with steel in another thread that I thought he was taken in the second, I knew it was the first because I use him as an example that we will find our next franchise QB in the first, not the later rounds that once in a while will produce one.

    ***********************************************************************************************************************************

BIO: First-team all-conference choice garnering All American notice as a junior after passing numbers of 69.1 percent/4,486/37/10 with an efficiency rating of 165.84. Established Miami single season records for pass completions and passing yards, breaking his own totals from 2002. Sophomore numbers were 63.3 percent/3,238/22/11. Named MAC Freshman of the Year in 2001 after completing 66.3 percent/3,105/25/13. Joined Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich as the only MAC quarterbacks to pass for 3,000 or more yards in three separate seasons and accumulated 10,829 yards passing during that time.

POSITIVES: Big-armed pocket passer with the ability to grow into a franchise quarterback. Sets up to deliver the ball with solid footwork, stands strong in the pocket and smart. Sells the ball fakes, scans the field and consistently finds the open pass-catcher. Senses the rush yet buys as much time as possible, waiting for the last second before releasing the ball. Rarely panics, in complete control of the offense and a true leader behind center. Natural looking off the safety, throws with a fluid over delivery and possesses a big arm. Drives deep passes downfield, puts zip on the intermediate routes as well as velocity on all his throws. Throws tight spirals and beautifully arches deep throws. Leads receivers over the middle and very accurate. Gets outside tackle and accurate passing on the move. Does not make poor decisions and always working to make positive plays.

NEGATIVES: A pocket passer with marginal mobility and cannot escape the rush. Must improve his downfield accuracy as well as the placement of the outs. Majority of snaps are taken out of the shotgun.

ANALYSIS: A high-character prospect well liked and respected, Roethlisberger is gifted both physically and intellectually. Possesses the skills a franchise can build their team around for a winning future. May not offer early returns but has more upside potential than any other signal-caller in this draft.

    PROJECTION: Early First Round

How can you be good at getting out of the pocket, yet have marginal mobility and not be able to escape the rush?

    And LOL at 'high-character'

Did this guy just miss the character issues or do you think Ben just got off track somewhere, started drinking more heavily than he should and let sports stardom go to his head? I have heard about how much of a jerk Ben could be and how he would walk out on tabs and just basically be obnoxious to people that may have been serving him, waitresses, bartenders, etc., even going back to his Miami of Ohio days I heard that there were rumblings of how much of an arrogant jerk he could be at times. But again, most of these reports are anecdotal so I'm not sure how much stock I put in all of them. But we all know how well publicized the "alleged" sexual assaults are and how Ben behaved then, so where there is smoke there is usually fire. I just hope the guy has gotten past all of that and has found redemption with God and that his wife and child have changed his outlook and caused him to rearrange his priorities.

Anyway, when I saw that this profile said he was such a good character guy I had to comment. :hmmm:

By every account that I ever read, Ben just let stardom go to his head and lost his way. It's one thing to miss on a guys physical capabilities in these profiles but I've never seen them miss on the character issue. If he was a jerk with low character and getting in trouble in college I don't believe they would get that wrong and all I ever read was how respectful Ben was to his coaches and authority figures and what not. When you think about how fast he rose to stardom, it's easy for me to believe he just didn't handle success well. Similarly, every report I read now, from people who have been covering Ben his whole career say he is more like he was when he got out of college. The close call in Georgia seems to have woken him up.

The funniest part I found of the profile was that he can't evade the rush

People underestimate the brain injuries that can't be seen. The motorcycle crash created a new Ben. I believe he has some lasting issues from the crash, including how he controls himself.

I think Ben let his stardom get to his head. I hope that he has matured and settled down since meeting his wife and now having a child. It would do him a lot of good both on and off the field.

All I can say is I was so happy when the Steelers picked him because he is such a rare talent. I watched him play games at Miami University due to the closeness of where I live. He simply led that team every week like a well oiled machine. I'm just glad he lost that first game of his junior year against Iowa or he would have been considered as a favorite for the Heisman that year and more than likely would be a Charger today.

I think whoever wrote that doesn't know crap.

Ben isn't a typical pocket passer and although he's not overly mobile anymore, he was at one time. While he does sell the pump fake quite well, he's not good at looking off DB's, in fact, he tends to stare down his receivers. I don't think he drives the ball down field, I find he has quite a weak deep ball. Unless he gets some height under it, he can't get it very deep because there's just not enough velocity. I'll agree he throws well on the movie, but I wouldn't say he doesn't make poor decisions. I find the weakest part of Ben's game is his decision making. He tries to force passes into tight windows when other receivers are wide open. He often looks at the wide open RB and then throws elsewhere. He has never liked throwing to RB's. That's poor decision making.

As for his negatives, he's not overly mobile and isn't going to get many rushing yards, but he can escape the rush quite well. Not sure how that's a negative of his. It's not like he learned how to escape the rush after being drafted, that's a skill he's always had. I do agree the placement of his out's aren't great, never have been and probably never will be. It's just a throw he doesn't make well.

When I was at a Bengals game a few years ago there was a guy there that said he went to high school with Ben and that he was a jerk but who knows if that guy was telling the truth. Also if people only know you from how you were in high school hopefully you've changed and grown up from then. Although Ben was sure acting like a kid in GA for sure.

Yeah, I'm sure you were getting the truth from a Bengals fan, I doubt he even went to HS with him! Or maybe he was a nerd and Ben being a jocked picked on him :lolol:

So we gotta track down that 95 year old hussy and ask her why she broke Ben's head?
Sorry Cali, just couldn't stop myself. Ha-ha

Well, other than the couple of inconsistincies, that were already pointed out in the original report, I would say they had it pretty much right.
A highly talented qb with a lot of upside, that you could build a franchise around.
    Sounds about right to me.:hmmm:
As far as the character issues, I`ve said it before, and I`ll say it again, He was a humble kid coming out of a small college, wearing "play for Jesus", on his shoes, then the fame, success, and money, went to his head.
Not sure if he`s completely turned it around, and been humbled enough to be the same kid he was then, attitude wise, but he has sure learned how to stay out of trouble, and out of the spotlight.
I would like to believe he has "seen the light", and is a "new man", now, with the wife and kid, but I`m a bit too cynical to believe all that.
I just wish he could play with the same confidence he did when he first came into the league.
Yes, that`s gonna mean he will throw dumb picks, like he did at the end of last year, but it will also mean he can make throws like he did to Santonio to give us trophy #6.
Just, somewhere along the way, after his bike wreck, he started looking like he was thinking too much, on the field, and not trusting himself to do what he could do.
Sure, I want hm to make smart throws, throw it away when he has to, but, overall...
I just want him to believe in himself, and stop thinking so damn much.
I believe he plays his best, when he trusts his instincts, and just does what feels right to him, in the heat of the moment.
When he tries to be too careful, too safe, he chokes.
I would also love to see him go back to scrambling when he has to. Not as part of a designed play, or to get a big gain, just when he sees open field ahead of him, to get a first down, JUST DO IT!!!
He used to be really good at that, but I haven`t seen it in waaaay too long.
Probably a combination of age/injuries, and what his coaches tell him. But that used to be a very dangerous part of his game, that the defenses don`t even worry about, anymore.
    Just my opinion.
    GO STEELERS!

Where there is smoke there is fire might be true but, at the same time, where there is jealousy their are haters. I would be willing to bet that for every bit of truth about him there is twice as many lies. For some reason people love to hate. I don't get it and, frankly, hope I never do. I do agree that when Ben stops thinking and just plays he is a much better player. That doesn't mean that I think he should just be cut loose, though.

That's worked well for Ben the first half of his career and he's pulled games out with sheer physical determination. It's been fun to watch. BUT...having said that, Ben MUST become a more cerebral QB the second half of his career if he wants to continue to have the kind of success he's had up to this point. His body cannot continue to take the kind of pounding its taken his first several years in the league. There have been indications over the last couple of years that Ben is not the same physically dominating QB that he once was when he was playing a lot of sandlot football. How long has it been since he's pulled out a dramatic 4th quarter win? I think he can be just as successful in an offense designed to keep him upright with running and short passes to open up the longer opportunities later in the game. We've seen that work to perfection in games that it's been implemented. I don't expect Ben to morph into Peyton Manning, but he needs to become more of a thinker and give more credence to film study and preparation as he ages.

This is why you have to see the player for yourself before getting drafted. The so called experts who areputting these type of scouting reports out are clueless...the majority if the time.

I don't think Ben is lacking in confidence as much as he just needs to heal and needs to trust more in his TEAM MATES. That is more on them than him. They will miss Wallace but he wasn't all for this team and can be replaced easier than a lot of people think. Ben won a super bowl after the motorcycle accident and got to a third. It is not time yet to overly panic about his physical capabilities but if he struggles again next season like the end of last season, the whispers will become louder. The organization has to help out by getting better skill position players. GO STEELERS!

I agree that his deep ball is an underrated weakness in his game. It's been inaccurate quite often, and I'd say that on 35%+ of Wallace's deep TD plays, he had to make an adjustment for an underthrown ball

If he was throwing to Fitz, who deserves Fitz money, we wouldn't be having this conversation. He would just catch it.:taunt:
