Yeah, I do know that averaging 17 PPG and throwing for 170 YPG isn't sustainable.

True, but early in the season first 6 games. Average could have jumped. Damn sure dropped like a fkn LED ZEPPELIN in the end with Rust.

Fields had to come in those last 5 games to make a play just so the offense might make a 1st down because it was a given Rust was not.

then ding dong Bags Tomlin goes back to Rust.

    It's all whacked

Why would it jump when the schedule got much harder in the second half of the season? That doesn't make sense.

Actually 17 ppg and 170 ypg should be easily sustainable

Good lord, Fields and Wilson were and ARE flat out mediocre. That's it. Clinging to mediocre because we've seen horrible often the past three seasons is not a winning move. Stop making excuses for mediocre QBS. Both have track records, Wilson is nearing the end of his tank and Fields has been "promising" for three years now. Probably still will be at 35.

Fields, if used VERY specifically, or if he pays up for off-season of training (footwork, decision-making, changing throwing motion, etc), could be better than mediocre, but that lightning bolt RARELY hits as most QBs in NFL think they're already good enough and thus sabatoge themselves. I figure Fields will do the same.

We need something better. Sadly 41 year old Rodgers is better than either of them, though still in the upper-mediocre range at this point.

I really hope they draft a QB, and do whatever it takes to get him. I don't mean trading up in 1st to take Dart, no, I mean if they take a DL in first, then find a way to trade up into the late 2nd or something. That or trade back int he 1st, hope the DL is still there and add a 2nd round pick (probably have to send back a 6th or something). Get creative, get the DL we need and the QB we need.

Rodgers I hope for 2025 and then hopefully whomever they draft starting in 2026 with Rudolph a capable, if boring backup.

There are no crystal balls. They wasted an opportunity to find out more about Fields. You can’t ignore that Fields has had a different OC and several different HC in his 4 years in the league. For a player that needs to be developed, that is a recipe for disaster.

In just 6 games Arth fixed his footwork. Would have liked to have seen what else may have improved over the course of the season instead of trying to catch lightening in the bottle with Wilson.

Let Mason start -- we will win or lose, no matter who is our starter.

Makes me think back to an interview with Cowher prior to last season and the answer he gave when asked who he would start. He went with Wilson, with the reasoning being it made more sense to switch to the younger guy than vice-versa if things didn't work out. Then, of course, Wilson injured the calf.

As refreshing as it was for me to watch a more fully-functioning offense when Wilson was brought in, I would've been alright had they stuck with Fields because he was the only one with a possible future - and as things turned out with Pickens missing three games he may have been the better play anyway. If he'd been a rookie who they wanted to have a redshirt year before taking over, different story.

That calf injury and Pickett's ankle came at less than ideal times.

Footwork was a small part of his problem. Guy couldn't read a defense, and struggled when the primary was covered.

Why? Milton for a pick swap of a 5th for a 7th is probably better than anyone the Steelers could have gotten in the draft with their 5th pick.

Who in the 5th round of the draft do you think is better than Milton? Right now, we have a career backup in Mason, and a career Practice squad player in Skylar, are you good with this group for 2025?

Milton would have been in immediate competition with Mason for the backup spot. Mason was terrible last year throwing 9 Ints in 5 starts. Mason should be competing with someone for the backup roll this year.

Joe Milton 6'5" and 246lbs with a canon for an arm. Definitely not someone you want in the Steelers backfield.

I think where Tomlin really ran afoul was not benching Wilson during that stretch. One guy was benched while the team sat at 4-2 and the other guy kept his job during some really awful football. I can see why Fields may be bitter about that.

A problem that was corrected nonetheless. As I said, would have liked to seen what else may have improved.
