they could possibly use the comp picks they are counting on to use for movement this year. say they know they will be receiving a 3rd next year as a comp pick, they could trade their next years 3rd and say a 5th to move back to the second or another 3rd this year. knowing they are stocking up on these could give them an opportunity to use the picks they know they have next year in each round to move this year. not the comp pick itself.

More than contract $$$ go into the formula. What if Moore is benched in week 3 after getting Cam Ward a beating? Or even worse, what if he gets a season ending injury in camp? Is he still worth a 3rd round comp pick in the formula? I don’t know, but I doubt it.

Edit: this makes the team’s offseason strategy more questionable IMO. Just get the right players. Period. Don’t plan for getting a pick #100 in the 2026 draft that may be a bust, or may even become pick #140 because the lost free agent failed.

It’s a message board people ask questions

Three other posters were able to give logical well thought responses

    You could not

Most of your posts are just reposts of someone else’s thoughts maybe you should just stick to that

I'm not saying I approve of it as a strategy - I've been airing my grievances over this offseason for awhile.

Craft beer sales are up as a result, though, so there's that.

The few remaining free agents who might have been helpful to the Steelers continue to sign elsewhere. Calais Campbell was the latest. Sure, he's ancient. He's also still a dominant run defender and he signed a cheap deal with the Cardinals.

You've been making a lot of sense lately. You feeling alright? ;)

As for the comp formula, snap percentage does impact it. OTC has a good snapshot:

Contracts are ranked via a Final Numerical Value based on the sum of points awarded as follows:
    • An inverse ranking of the contract's Average Per Year (APY)
    • One point each for each percentage point of snaps played on offense or defense, with a minimum requirement of 25%. (Kickers and punters earn points based upon statistical performance.)
    • 20 or 5 points based upon being honored by the AP All Pro or PFWA On Field Awards lists.

Campbell is older than Heyward they're better off double dipping in the draft at DL.

yes this is possible but the comp picks would be no higher than a 3rd right? from the 3rd on down draft slots are not going to kill your draft next year like a 1st or 2nd if you gamble and use those picks for this year to help gain back what you have lost. if DK goes down we don't move back from losing our 2nd this year either. some of this is a gamble. we have free agents that could give us some comp picks next year. moore somehow, daniels, harris, fields, jackson, wilson, sutton, and a few others.
