Logan Lee was out all of last season with a calf injury. He plays DT/NT. The Steelers may still have some eggs in this basket.

omar also said we need to add two more before camp. i expect one of those to be a draft pick this year. who and when is a good question. i have a feeling it's between the two that played for the national championship last year. howard and ewers. the other may be the kid from missouri, cook.

If one of those is Rodgers the second one may just be a camp arm. I don’t think he’d tip his hand about definitely drafting one.

I don't think he would tip anything either. But it is sorta already known that we need to draft a QB. My question is if ARod doesn't work out, does he plan to bring a different FA in? Who would that be?

    RE: Comp Picks
I think that is a strategy, one can be successful there.

    RE: Draft and QB.
They got themselves in a little hole here. The misguided view that they could 'rehab' Fields when they could not even 'rehab' their own draft pick Pickett was a horrible idea.
I still kick a hole in the wall over the fact that they could not even sit the rookie down and put a lid on the situation, instead they let it go nuclear.
So that fiasco went down in flames like the Hindenburg.
Then they threw gasoline on that disaster with the addition of Wilson.
There's no sense in beating this one death, it was a total disaster and as the owner, I would have had all persons involved in that herded into my office for a yelling session ala Jack Kent Cooke (The Squire) Casserly, Bethard and Gibbs... The man had a stare when he had on those half height reading glasses and he lowered the papers he was looking at to stare over the top at you that burned into your soul the fact that you f'd up intensely into your soul.... he was magnificent at that.

But now we are in a hole, setback a year or two.

Ideally, I want a rookie watching Rogers for a year, maybe even two.
But I think it will be Rogers and Mason this year unless a QB falls in their laps. Even then, I'm not sure any are Franchise QB's.
I think they are loaded up for next year.

    Rodgers is 40+
Rudolph is 30 before the next season.
Thompson turns 28 before the season begins.
Even if they look fantastic this season together, not a lot of future in that QB room.

Well, if they draft DL in the first round he will be a starter. Jonathon Allen is 30 years old coming off a serious injury I wouldn't pay him 20 million a year.

Fair enough but that will not automatically guarantee Pittsburgh selecting him. Then again, these circumstances are different due to the Aaron Rodgers Saga.

If Rodgers doesn't come in, I would think they would turn to Flacco next. But how about Carson Wentz?.
Before anyone jumps out of their 2nd floor window, Wentz may not be a bad signing. He obviously has had a bit of success in the league, playing at an MVP level at one point. Yes, he's developed a bit of a locker room cancer reputation, but he spent last year with KC, and Andy Reid so he may just have bottomed out and wants to establish that he CAN play within a system and not be the focal point.
His journey after leaving Philly was pretty bumpy, going to Indy where he fell flat on his face, and Washington, where he got crushed by the mayhem that was always on display there with Daniel Snyder running the franchise.
In Pittsburgh, the system would be based more on the running game, and not reliant on him primarily to move the chains.

I floated Wentz as a dark horse a while ago. I would take him before Flacco.

I don’t think its teammates that have a problem with Wentz, I think it’s his ego with coaches, he doesnt think they know better, hes not coachable.

I think it’s moot though, I’m fairly certain Rodgers will be the QB.

Wentz was a guy that deteriorated right in front of my eyes.
I was on the Washington side of the field that one year and he was jaw-dropping good... he made throws of all kinds.
Then I was in Washington when they signed him by the end of game 2 I could not believe how bad he was.
Shell shocked comes to mind when I think of him...

I don't think we have the QB of future here, only temps.
I think one might be in the 26 draft.

I think you hit the nail on the head with all the "other misses" to go with the KP miss. Unfortunately this team drafted pretty poorly at the end of KC's tenure (with the exception of Watt)... Created a lot of extra holes outside the QB position and made it even more difficult for us if we missed.

That has something to do with it, but also we played the top rushing offenses in the latter part of the season as well. We played 4 of our last 9 against the top 2 rushing offenses in the league (3x Ravens, 1x Eagles). The two outlier games being the 220 yard performance in Balt regular season, and the 299 yard playoff game in Balt). We held the Eagles to almost 50 yards below their season rushing average and the home game vs. Balt we held the Ravens to 65 yards under their season average.... The problem is that we played the worst when it mattered the most (the two Ravens road games). I chalk that up to more a coaching issue than the issue of personnel or "run defense" as a whole. Again, we lost Larry O (not the end of the world, but a decent player) and our best OL is going to be 36 this year. We certainly have to add to the DL. But this team's offense was a bigger problem and we can't fill all the holes in a single offseason. A signing next FA period and a draft pick in one of the next two drafts can change the outlook on our DL room drastically. We have to make the RIGHT moves though.

how much will that rookie D-lineman play? you still have cam and benton. we play the two down lineman sub package over 60% of the time. do we spend a first on a part time player? yes we have to replace cam at some point. we also may have to replace watt at some point too. an offensive lineman would get full time playing time very soon.

Steelers/Tomlin had formal meetings with Grant and Harmon at the Combine. What would be gained by bringing them in for a visit? Seems like a redundant waste of time?

Cheese on a cracker, the two of you are cranky lately.

Personally, I'm not wishing for Pickens to be traded, but I wouldn't hate it depending on what the return was and what they did with it. Potential is a two-way street in any trade.

And I would really like to see them get back into the 2nd round.

    As you were, gentlemen.

Combine visits vs Pre Draft are two completely different forms of evaluation.

Combine is more so on what the player is capable of. A Pre Draft Visit is further investigation on who that player is as a person. Additional Medical Evals, a sit-down with the Top FO and most importantly, a deeper dive into that players past personal history. There is little time to do so at the Combine given how many other prospects the Steelers scout.

A player as a Pre Draft Visit though?! Teams can now evaluate a prospect in greater detail. Troy Fautanu was actually such a case given Pittsburghs lack of attendance at Washington's Pro Day a year ago.
