Malik was a projects' project though. That dude needed the entire continent to teach him how to play the position.

Milroe only needs the Village. Still not good though; doubly so considering that he has played more than Malik did in college.

Gives Dart a leg up on being the pick at 21.

Smith will love him, a mobile QB that thrives off of play action.

To tell you the truth, I’m encouraged by how far Willis has come, he looks more like a QB now.

As you pointed out, Milroe wouldn’t need as much work as Willis. If Willis can improve, so can Milroe.

@Steelpens65@Steelpens65 I’d be cautiously optimistic. He’s not my first choice but if the plan is to have him sit behind Rodgers for a year, I’d be fine with that.

If they don’t sign Rodgers, I think they will look for a more polished QB this class that can maybe step in this year.

I honestly don’t want Milroe or Rodgers… see what Flacco wants… if you like Dart and is available get him.
But, I said this once I’ve said it a million times… as long as shades is there we won’t develop a qb.
Trying to play so conservatively that it costs you when the chips are on the line. And here you go, almost let you slide. Should’ve could’ve would’ve IMG_0907.jpeg

Interesting. I'm not sure what constitutes a Big Time Throw or Turnover Worthy Play, but I also read the other day that Shedeur had taken eight snaps from under center in four years. Dart worked primarily out of shotgun as well. You can run play action out of the 'gun, but it's not as effective and not what Smith likes to do.

I'd be curious how many and which passing plays were part of their breakdown.

Somehow, I don't picture the Steelers coaching staff to be QB whisperers. Especially since the HC said he is not excited about starting over with a rookie...

I don’t have confidence in Tomlin simply because of his philosophy but they do have a good QB coach now that cleaned up Fields footwork.

Such good footwork he ran to another team. He too probably didn't have any confidence in Bags Tomlin

Malik didn't show improvement until he became part of Matt LaFleur's system because he is a competent offensive coach. If you think Milroe will see the same kind of improvement under Coach Popcorn, you are far more optimistic than I am. I'll just have to hold out hope that Smith can coach him up.

I didnt put any faith in Tomlin, I said Arth seems to be a good QB coach.

    Willis never played under Tomlin.

i think arth is too. that is only half the equation though. the student has to be able to break the bad habits and be smart enough to be taught what he needs to be taught. athleticism is only part of the overall QB game. much of it is mental and being able to accept and retain and put in to practice all that is taught. most coaches are pretty smart, the pupil has to have ability in the brain department.

i think mason has that ability. he has gotten better since his first few years. i think mccord has a lot of qb knowledge coming in. i think hennigan does too. so does shough. there are a few others too. i really hope we look for the complete trainable QB over the best athlete qb.

Wasn't Malik Willis the Steelers' guy coming out of the 2022 class?? Pre-draft talk is nothing but pure bs. Milroe is the same clickbait bs from the "insiders."

Agree. Yes the dream is to get past this year and either have a top pick, or have enough picks to trade up and get 'a'a guy. The problem with this is it still is 50/50 (plus or minus) gamble. We were spoiled for a lot of years, and since Ben retired have been stagnant in the QB position. I get the % of QB success after the first 1/3 or 1/5 of the first round goes down dramatically, but the risk is always worth taking, I would hope that the coaches responsible do the research and clamor for the guy they think is 'trainable', but intelligent high football IQ guys can get things accomplished.
