i think MT’s vision of a Qb is AR; a veteran that can get him that playoff win. I dont think hes thinking of the next rookie type, cause hes likely not going to be around that long.

Surprised that Simms wished he was more muscular cause I thought he was put together pretty well for a QB. He's not Milroe but...

i agree. i think he's afraid of a rebuild but he's not doing a great job in a reload either. until ownership pushes for the next one like rooney did for ben, we may end up with the cowher years before ben. he was all about defense and i don't think cowher even liked QB's. that's why we got kent graham. i hope we don't go searching for the next lamar jackson or jalen hurts out of this draft because they were much better coming in than milroe. aaron rodgers or these vets make it so tomlin doesn't have to work as hard and show his or his coaching staff's true colors in not being able to bring players along to a SB winning or contending level. or coach them to that level. he hasn't shown that yet with an offense. mediocre with a defense by years end.

Most of these guys coming out seem to be built like Dart. You don’t see a lot of guys Big Bens size, 6’5” 240.

One of the reasons I like Howard is he has that natural big size.

i still like mccord and i wouldn't mind one late that could be a sleeper nobody is talking about, seth hinnigan from memphis. he's been there for 4 years. 104 TDs to 31 interceptions. another 10 rushing. maybe the brock purdy of this draft.

There is a good debate to be made that QBs that are ripped are not good passers compared to ones with a little flab. This is because their muscles don't allow the flexible movement necessary for a consistent release of the ball. They also have a harder time controlling the velocity.

Another sleeper is Cam Miller from North Dakota State. He won 2 straight national championships in FCS running a pro style offense and his strength is reading the defense. NFL.com has him rated the best decision making QB in this year's draft class.

I always read fans saying how they wouldn't take a certain QB in the first round, but if he's there in the 3rd, they would take a flyer on him. This makes no sense to me. If you think this QB could turn out to be your franchise QB, why would you wait?

Maybe it's the way I personally view the importance of the position. Maybe it's because I don't trust evaluators, experts, scout sites, talking heads, and faceless voices to know better than the coaches how to rate QBs.

No team trades away their franchise QB. No matter the offer. No matter how much money the QB wants. At least not until they have the next one in house. (Except the Raiders)

Ben Roethlisberger was taken in the first round and so was Kenny Pickett. One of them was a first round pick definitely and the other was a dumb reach.

Don’t know if this board was active in 2004, but what was the mood back then before the draft? I remembered we had Maddox and he wasn’t the worst QB. Stats were probably on par with today’s Wilson and Rodgers

Exactly this. Pickett was taken in the 1st round in the worst projected QB class in years, yet some people will try and tell you that taking a QB is the same thing every year. It is not.

It was the old Steelers message board back then and I was ecstatic when Ben got drafted with the #11 overall pick. The only reason he fell to us is because he lost the Iowa game.

That the rest of the quarterback class was weak was irrelevant to any evaluation of Pickett. I'm not sure why people keep arguing otherwise.

ok so Sanders will be the next great QB ---are we going to get him or some scrub.hmmm I'm betting scrub. So, saying what I said doesn't really matter we won't get him...

So if they sign Rodgers and draft Sanders we will see the new Barnum and Bailey...

I don't want either especially Sanders.

Could trade down in the 1st, grab a 2nd and draft Dart. He can sit a year.

Sanders is going to be a top 5 pick, you risk more trying out than you do playing it close to the vest. This happens every year almost, some top QB only runs one or two drills or measurements, declines the rest. no big deal. Either you like Sanders (as a scout) or you don't. Given family history, make sure the level of confidence/arrogance matches the talent, he may not be as good as he thinks he is and that could lead to coachability problems (don't tell me how to do that, I already know, go away).

My preference is and will be Dart or McCord. Not that big on Shough, and as other have said, Howard is nothing special...more like a game-manager with subpar skills.

Dart and McCord offer the best mix of medium-low floor and solid upside that could allow for an eventual all-pro designation a few years down the road. Go for the upside.

Milroe, the speed/build is very intriguing, but unless he's shown something in throwing that could be corrected, we'll be getting a faster version of Fields with even lesser accuracy. I am not against drafting this guy, if for nothing else, he'd probably be the best running RB in the league out of the gate, but unless they invest in a top QB coach and maybe a sports pyschiatrist, Milroe carries alot of bust potential and possible position change in year 2 or 3 (RB, WR, etc). Of course, adding Rudolph (and maybe one year of Rodgers) means Milroe could sit one full year practicing his butt off.

When Ben was drafted, he was considered a reach too. Then he worked out, and he wasn't.

Where are you getting this "Reach" info from. From what I can remember the Steelers sprinted to the podium to select Ben.

From Ben's Wiki Page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_R...L draft,Chargers taking Manning first overall.

During the 2004 NFL draft, Roethlisberger was the second-highest touted quarterback behind Ole Miss' Eli Manning. He was projected to be taken by the New York Giants as the fourth overall pick, with the San Diego Chargers taking Manning first overall.[33]

You do know all the conversation about taking him there? When the war room it's not in agreement, THAT is a reach.

These guys when taken in the later rounds do not have a bust rating, but the ceiling is worth the effort. Just wish we had the staff on hand to build.
