Yeah, no way in rd 1, but getting someone to work with is imperative. I like Shough. Ewers, I'm just not sure. Round 4 or later, I'm good with a lot of guys.

I know, that's the hell of it. Nobody has that crystal ball but everybody knows it's the most important position on the field. So there's immense pressure to find a good one.

Since 2000, the Jets have drafted ~13 QBs, nine of whom were fourth round picks or higher. They also tried the twilight Favre and Rodgers experiments, and nothing has really worked out for them.

Then you get a team like Green Bay, who trades for Favre and rides with him for 18 years before seamlessly transitioning to Rodgers for the next 14. :lolol:

I've said it before and I will say it again, if Arthur Smith cant change his offense to fit the personel he has, well then he is the wrong man for the job!! It really is that simple. If he is limiting his players by play design or if he is limiting his pro bowl QB, 2 time SB QB etc etc,,,,well then he isnt the man for the job!!! Point blank and simple!!!!

The crazy part is in those 32 seasons, their starter missed 20 games total.

No first or second pick in the 2nd round respectively. No way he goes that high in the 1st round.

This is what I'm proposing we do, trade down from 21, get a 2nd round pick to replace traded 2nd for DK, but don't trade all the way out of first round, then draft Dart. If he's gone, then double dip at DT, RB then see which QB;s are left. Ewers?, Howard, Slough. Slough just might fit the best as he my be able to start day one because of age and collage career.

I'd easily take Rudolph over Russell Wilson. The former is still young, offers great value for his price tag, and is still very familiar with the Steelers locker room and coaching staff, and the latter is extremely old, overpriced, and cooked.

If you want a shot at a surprise run this fall, then yes, Rodgers is the ONLY QB that was avaialble this off-season that could give us that shot. Fields, no, Wilson, already seen its best, Darnold, no, not for a mega-contract.
Rodgers being old means the contract can be very short, which is a plus. We'll be no worse off this time next year with Rodgers, I wouldn't feel confident had we overpaid Darnold on or 4 or 5 year deal.

We don't need A QB, they're everywhere. They're Mason Rudolphs. There are 30 to draft or sign UDFA, there are probably 10 vets out there that would play for peanuts. "A" QB is a dime a dozen, so were not starved, but overwhelmed with those options.

A good QB, a franchise QB, yeah, we're starved but so are half the teams in the league. Some don't know it yet, every year, teams that think they have an answer, see serious regression and suddenly they're back in hunt.

I hope for Rodgers, a QB that has carried a team on his back several times, won MVPs, has the fight and moxy. WANTS to win. I don't want a QB just hunting for a job, limited, and seemingly not trying to fix their flaws. What has Fields done to fix his? I haven't heard him working with a QB guru or footwork specialist or sports pyschologist or someone to help him actually hold on to the football. Wilson, short, not as fast, one-dimensional moon-ball QB. Darnold, maybe, just maybe he has transitioned from A QB to THE QB for a team, but that is a very expensive chance to take after striking out several years only to hit gold with probably a perfect OC/QB/WR storm.

Rodgers is our only shot. Short of that, draft a rookie, if you feel good about Darts mental makeup, get him, trade up a few spots if you think you have to. If you don't no other QB warrants pick 21, so trade back, 5, 10 slots and add a day two pick and take a QB with that. Take a DL or CB with the late 1st or early 2nd pick after trading back.

    That's MY preference.

Think you are picking one the wrong guy. It comes down to Tomlin he has been quoted saying he doesn’t want the ball thrown over the middle of the field too much of a chance for a turnover. So until Tomlin is gone it doesn’t matter who the OC is nothing will change period.

It's Tomlin's offense, has been for years. That's who brought in RW to replace JF, when everyone else it seemed was against it.

Embrace the suck, Rudolph for 2 years draft QB next year. Mason for 2 years at 8M total, franchise QB of the future 4 years 40m total and pay TJ with the savings over Wilson or Rodgers

    or

Really embrace the suck, stick with Rudolph and trade TJ and maybe Minka for additional picks 2025 and perhaps 2026, draft QB in 2026

That is amazing. Another thing that amazes me is they had a franchise QB for 32 and have the grand total of 2 SB's with them 2.

Seems Bart Starr was their best, he won other 2.

Talking heads have put that out there

I did a quick Google search and nowhere is he quoted as saying that

    https://steelersdepot.com/2025/02/n...-mike-tomlins-offenses-avoid-middle-of-field/

This is an explanation. I don’t recall him ever saying specifically that the middle of the field is off limits, but he has talked about the risk of throwing over the middle and the play calling reflects that. It’s an approach that I disagree with, but it prioritizes avoidance of turnovers.

    Exactly

    You made my point

What he actually said was “when you throw over the middle, bad things can happen”.

This is true but it has been falsely twisted into he won’t or is afraid to throw to the middle.

Most of Wards catches were in the middle ditto a lot of tight ends

    Ben threw over the middle

The problem was Pickett and Fields

Remember Chuck Noll said “when you throw the ball 3 things can happen and 2 of them are bad”. Was that interpreted to mean he was afraid to let Bradshaw throw the ball

Honestly when TB did throw a lot of bad things did happen, nearly as many ints as TD's, but having 2 HOF WR, HOF RB and Rocky, the others, and having the confidence, those 2 bad things that happened were more often made up by spectacular plays.

That is a crazy number, and while the jury is still out on Love long term, it appears they have a quality 3rd franchise QB in a row. Hard to argue with those choices.

For years, he was afraid to let Bradshaw throw the ball.

Tomlin let the future Hall of Fame quarterback do what he wanted, but he hasn't been wiling to trust anybody else. That's on him, too. The comments about Tomlin not wanting quarterbacks to throw over the middle aren't just based on what he said. They are based on the passing charts going back to the end of Roethlisberger's final seasons. They don't throw nearly enough over the middle, which makes things far too easy for opposing defenses. Pickett did most of his damage at Pitt attacking the middle of the field. He did it in some of those late drives to win games, too. Do you think he suddenly decided to avoid the middle of the field most of the time on his own? Not likely.

Maybe Tomlin was willing to trust Wilson, but he has never liked to throw over the middle of the field. That was an issue for him even when he was good.

Yet you attacked KP, he was just afraid of turning ball over. Just like JF anD RW was.

Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly has suggested that Tomlin's offensive approach, particularly his reluctance to target the middle of the field, stems from a fear of turnovers.

Kaboly has stated that Tomlin has been "very transparent" about his concerns, saying, "When you throw the ball across the middle, a lot of bad things can happen
